The big Gawnius Maximus..... Yeh must have been a mighty bad hammy tear! By the time he fully recovers from that and then builds up his fitness, he probably won't be considered for selection till halfway through the year i reckon....

I thought he said he was ready to play for the vfl in 10 days or so. If so it will be a case of him getting continuity in his game, then hopefully press for senior selection. If we can get a full year out of gawn it will be a huge bonus.

Don't forget grimes and garland were down for a year with serious foot injuries but eventually got back to afl standard.

Off LT injury list this Friday apparently, so must be close to some (Casey) game time.

Does anyody know whether there is anybody let on our LTIL? Supplementary question: Is there any mechanism to promote Magner or Couch until there is?

It used to depend on how many veterans we have on our list, but I'm not sure if they changed the rules on that. Last year we only had Brad Green as an "outside list veteran" (or whatever it was called), and as we were allowed 2, it meant that we could promote a rookie based on that.

That's probably as clear as mud, but I'm sure it will refresh someone's memory on here so that they can expand for you!

It used to be for every veteran you have less than 2 you could upgrade a rookie. As we only had green we could upgrade someone. I think that has now changed. Now you have 40 senior list spots and 4 rookie spots or you can have 38 an 6 or 39 and 5. If you have less than 40 you can upgrade someone. We have the full 40. Tigers decided to have 38 and stack their rookie list with recycled players. Hence Petterd and Stephenson get upgraded.

I think they still have the rule that one Rookie can be upgraded at round 11.

But as far as I know we won't have anyone able to be upgraded without a long term injury until then. Which hurts if you are Magner but is a good thing for Viney, m jones and toumpas. I'm not convinced Magner is a true AFL talent but we need someone in the guts to help jones, Mackenzie, Sylvia Rodan and trengove around in close.

Since we did miss out on him, he will probably be a star.

At least we tried to get this one Redleg.

He will not be another D.......

Sorry just cannot bring myself to type it.

He hasn't exactly starred but like Max Gawn he seems to play footy the right way. Haven't been totally convinced he'll be a great forward option but he moves well enough that you could play him in tandem.

Put it this way I'd rather have him as the third ruck option than Spencer

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
