Many good ones still available IMO ...

SA : Colquohoun, Vfl - Osborne , Vic TAC: Pongracic , Hams, Mansfield, Haynes , Ballard WAFL: Nelson, Warrell , Lowrie , Wilkins .

Qld : Boston.

For me, Sam Colquohoun has Elite skills and class, and Jacob Ballard is a ballwinner with a mature build. These guys are unlucky not to get drafted and are "good" rookie options. Plenty of good players have come through as rookie. They take the disappointment and drive harder.

Surprising Colquohoun didn't get drafted, he looks alright and seems to pick the right options. I would say he'll get rookies without any problems and I hope it's us. We get pick 3 in the rookie draft don't we?

I wish the rookie list wasn't reduced. Wanted Luke Tynan to have a shot but you can't really afford to just "give them a shot" anymore.

Colquhoun not sure how this guy didn't get drafted! Watching his highlights I was really impressed with his decision making and kicking skills. If there was anyone in the draft who has elite kicking it'd be this guy! hopefully pick him up in the PSD. Gartlett would be an interested prospect... would have the skills... not sure about the attitude. Mark Neeld seems very stern in his ways with bringing in talent that has the right attitude so not sure if gartlett would be high on our list.

Do you mean stoned or rocked?

Hehe, corrected... but I would like to see him rock on with the Dees.

Yeh there are 36 players less getting a shot a rookie list spot now. mind you this had only been a temporary increase anyway in the last two years with gc and gws...

prob have to go for the internationals if we really want any project players...

The benefit we have now is we can bring the ones that interest us down and get them training with us to really see how they fit. Maybe not getting drafted will be the shake up that Garlett needs or maybe he is just a bad egg. Either way the risk with a rookie spot after a couple of weeks of intense scrutiny is alot less than taking him in the main draft.

I would look at Colquin, Wilkins, Garlett and Rippon.

Did Petterd, Bate, Cook, Bennell etc nominate for the draft? Didn't see ex Dees in the selections last night.

Wish them well in finding a footy home in the other drafts.

I think they will more than likely be in the PSD or the Rookie draft.

What do you think?

Sam Colquohoun to come to us in the rookie draft?

Hope so, might be gone after the PSD though.

We haven't had the senior group to help a kid like that but talent is talent.

Maybe we aren't ready to take on a project like that just yet...

MFC has a poor record in developing difficult project players

In the future maybe not nowplease

The opportunity cost of the pick is less but the main risk is the potential disruption, grief, bad publicity and use of finite player management resources. That's the same whether he's pick 4 or rookie pick 44. I wouldn't touch him.

Yeah, I am leaning towards that.

We just cleared out some projects, we should steer clear.

Posted this in another thread, but why not rookie him on a 'one-strike' agreement. Put the onus totally on him to turn the perception of himself around. No coddling, no special treatment and no senior games in 2013.

Our new club culture is just a baby.

Yeah, but instead of wasting energy on him, we could concentrate on getting the most out of 4, 9, 12, 14, 17, 35, 37, 38, 39, 42, and 44.

Anything more would be supplementary...

Potential trouble, why take the risk of investing in him and then having to sack him if he screws up. A lot of other players want to play and who may not have quite the same level of skill but will make up for that with their attitude.

Remember how Lucas Cook was going to prove us wrong?

In all seriousness, Sam Collins - Oakleigh Chargers. Wouldnt mind giving him a rookie gig.

I think we should take Garlett as a rookie.

Cos when I think "what does this club really need more of?"... it is especially a player we need to expend energy babysitting and some bad press.

Maybe someone to start a few spotfires, to distract from the "tanking" saga?

FMD.

If Flash can't play this year because of injury we could employ him as a full time baby sitter. Nev could be his minder and knock him back in to shape if he puts a foot wrong.

Or we could just pass like everyone else has.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
