Outstanding! Hogan will set up our forward line for the next decade once he debuts and Barry looks like a very nice player. To get him along with pick 20 is gold as that will be a good bargaining pick for another established player (Dawes). With pick four our only high pick left now it will surely be used on a player such as Wines/O'Rourke. Can't wait :) It's been a brilliant FA/trade period so far.

Keep it coming!

the only people who are disapointed about this trade are those who want to wait until 2020 for us to be any good. I think MFC have got the balance absolutley right this time. Going into this period any of us would have been happy with Viney @ 3, swap pick 4 for Hogan & another good mid at 13.

Now we have Viney, Hogan PLUS pick 4 (which sould secure us a long term gun player). I suspect we will chase Dawes too with 20.

This will give us a good mix of players who will make a differnce in 2013 and players who will be neck deep when we are pushing for finals.

Bravo MFC

PS. GWS are stockpiling young talent becasue they know 1/4 of them will get homesick and request to leave anyway.

Hmm... looking at the final arrangement on paper, it seems we -

Traded pick 3 in this draft for basically pick 3 in the next draft, in order to guarantee a player we were confident about and that really suited our needs, and with the bonus of getting to manage their final pre-AFL development year knowing that they would come to us.

Traded seven slots down the list in round 1 (moved 13 to 20) for a player tipped to go third roundish (or later), but who clearly has potential and we obviously like - Dom Barry, speedy agile guy.

That second part wouldn't be such a bad deal in itself, even without it being seen as a sweetener for GWS (who get something for nothing).

I'm comfortable, pick 20 is useful, there's still quite a few decent mids around there.

This also basically rules out giving up too much for Wellingham, or paying too much 'over' for Dawes if we still go for him. So not only are good things happening, but bad things are being nipped in the bud.

Does Hogan count as a 'Senior List' position?

Guess we're gonna have to start delisting some players soon...

Not until 2014, I know O'Meara didn't count for the Suns this year and thus they have to delist an extra.

Who tipped Barry to go third roundish?

Knightmare over on BigFooty has Barry anywhere from 30 to rookie.

I like the trade. Ultimately you can break it in two...

- MD2 for Pick 3

- Pick 13 for Pick 20 and Barry - a 7-slot downgrade for Barry effectively.

Adding to DemonWA's thought about GWS stockpiling talent because the know they will lose them - every extra pick we can jam down their throat now just increases the amount they will vomit back in four year's time when Tom Scully's contract squeezes them all out.

Dear GWS/AFL, thank you for paying for the development of our future players, and also the draft picks for Scully, lots of love, Melbourne Demons! :)

There is a hint there, Barry is Indigenous, watch the video on the MFC site, I am over the moon, another sweet left foot, grunt with Viney and silk with Barry...could be anything

I am trying to sort this out in my head. Was Barry available in the draft? If yes, how do we know we have him - is he not available to other clubs? Or was he already on the GWS list in some way?

I was confused about that one too

We are surely due for a major change in luck with our Territorians. Go Dom.

He was pre listed with GWS one of the many concessions they have/had, not sure how it works but we now have him, maybe the Club site will explain it in a video or something, it gets too complicated as long as the Club says he is OURS...that will do me

Thanks Striker..that makes sense. So someone with 1 year left on their contract might get a stay of execution this year (Mr. Morton?!)

AFL website has just answered my own question. Quote:

"Barry was zoned to GWS under the draft and player concession rules that gave the expansion club access to players from the Northern Territory who will be draft eligible by the time of the 2011, 2012 and 2013 drafts.""

Although he is available for this draft, he was formally attached to GWS and that is how they were able to use him in the Hogan trade. Well done Dees.

As i understand it GWS could pre-list NT players and then trade those player pre-draft. I think if not traded they then had the option of picking the player up pre draft. If they choose not add the player to their list hehen could put himself in the draft.

Great work MFC. Hogan is a "man" and will benefit from 2 pre seasons. The key fwd we had to get (farewell Lucas Cook).

Barry is really quick. And I like his skills. Maybe our new recruiting strategy is left footers aka the hawks strategy.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50.
