FAREWELL STEFAN MARTIN - SEPTEMBER 2012

I also agree that Pedersen for 33 is not worth it, but thats more because I think we should be able to land Pedersen for less than that. 33 would be a pick that we can use for Ray from the Saints who I see being more valuable than Pedersen.

I totally agree with what RPFC and Bezelbub are saying when comparing Pedersen to Martin head to head, but I still feel we have more players that can cover the role Pedersen *could* play for the dees (Fitzy, Martin, Sellar even Jamar at a pinch if we played Spencer or Gawn) They might not do it as well as Pedersen, but I still think we need to secure Ray for what he can offer our midfield as a higher priority.

If i had to choose one deal over the other.. Id go for Ray. This may well end up being all we get.

However Pedersen would fit it well. Id like to get both.

Nth are reaching and want everyone to help them. Clever of comes off

Pick 40 isnt in the picture, pick 33 is. If we are lucky enought to be able to land 33 from Brisbane for Martin, there is no chance in hell id ruin that gift by swapping it for Pederson under any circumstance.

Agree entirely. Pedersons reputation here is way overs compared to his achievement. Get a grip guys - he played 2 games last year.. 2 GAMES ! in a middle of the road outfit. No way known is he worth 33. Tell em they're dreamin'

Im going to back Neeld and the FD. If they want a specific person to fill a particular role. Thats fine by me.

After all theyve been planning these raids and delistings all year.

They just might have a better clue than most of us. Happily put myself in the 'us'

Theyve done the research.

I'm with DavidNeitz9 on this, in a roundabout way.

I'd readily swap Martin for Pederson.

But if we had pick 33 instead of Martin, I'd rather keep it than trade it to North for Pederson.

Sure, I think Pedro would be handy, but not at that opportunity cost.

It's not like he'll put us over the edge to compete for a flag.

Do the deal with Brisbane for Martin, sign contracts, but hold off on lodging the paperwork until the Pederson deal is done.

Gysberts for Pederson I can live with, because although I'd like to persevere with Gys, it would indicate what opinion the footy dept has of him, and they're in a much better position to judge.

Psychoanalysis & medical testing, etc would play a big part in this decision, I believe.

Also worth remembering that although Pederson only played 2 AFL games this season, he was a fwd capable of stints in the ruck, behind ruckmen in Goldstein & McIntosh, and fwds in Petrie, Hansen & Tarrant.

Pederson is clearly surplus to North's needs, but its not necessarily indicative of his talent. Or worth.

If we are smart/lucky enough to land pick 33 from Brisbane then there's no point in us passing the benefit of our good negotiations to North. It's not the issue of Martin for Pederson it's what we are able to get for Martin and what we're prepared to pay for Pederson.

I would be absolutely stoked if we got 33 for Martin because I think we could pick up a good prospect at that stage in the draft, if we get 48 then I'm not so fussed but I don't want to see the club pass on our god fortune to someone else.

Whatever we get for Martin is irrelevant.

Really ? So if Brisbane offered us a first rounder for martin you would happily gift that to North for Pederson ? In the end its Martin for Pederson, so who cares if we overpay...cant say i agree with that at all

I suspect we have some good contacts who have the knowledge on Pederson, & think we can put him to work.

Pedersen has fallen out with the North playing group as well as Brad Scott with all wanting him out of the club.

It seems that most are aware of this

We need to hold firm and only offer pick 49.

He needs a new environment away from North in order to shine again

North with cave just before the deadline and the trade will go through .

I agree, Nth seem to think we're a bit naive, or have we grown up since?

Does anyone know what his problem is at North. Has he cracked it because he is not getting games or some other reason. We need team players not some ego maniac (not saying that he is)

Many players have ego problems & attitude problems, and maybe held out from getting games by some very good players.

It looks like he can play well from the footage viewed & we have people close to werribee & ex north.

We need, the MFC need an immediate heart transplant, & looks like no stops being pulled.

Players who'll have a Go, seems to be the short order of things.

#Edit: If only Balls Grinter could still play.

Pedersen's AFL games this year were not great. He cant hold down a key post at AFL level. At VFL he played mainly ruck and ruck rover. This indicates the Roos dont rate him as you would think he would be played in a key role the same as he would at AFL level because at the 193cm he may struggle against Mumford and Cox all day.

And it's much better planned than in recent years. In fact, the thing which

pleases me most is that their IS a plan.

I highly doubt we will get Pick 33 for Martin, and trading him for Pick 53 isn't worth our while because it'll be like giving him away for nothing as I don't see us using that pick in the draft. He is probably worth smack bang in the middle of that at 43.. So, what do we do?

Throw in Pick 49 with Martin for their Pick 33. If they're not interested, they're not interested. We move on.

Hard to see the deal being done now they think they are in with a shot at Tippet. 53 too low and they think 33 too high.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
