Come on, I have run out of politeness when it comes to explaining that FAs cannot be traded.

So I went for funny.

Can I just say that when posters use another font type to make their posts stand out - I immediately think: 'this person has no confidence that anyone will read what they say.'

Just use the default font type.

Umm... not sure if you are taking the [censored] out of yourself or not...

If not I am more than happy to !!! :)

The thing is, if Rivers was a free agent we would probably go after him! We need experience and more consistent players. If we lose him I'm sure we'll go hard after other senior FA's and we would then most likely get no compensation for Riv leaving.

While I like and think Jared a very good player I don't think we'd look at him if he was at another club and available.

We are well stocked in tall backmen with Watts, Tommy Mc, Garland, Frawley and Sellar. This is probably why the FD are not freaking at the prospect of him leaving.

We need tall forwards, and losing Riv to gain a Gumbleton type forward may be what we have to do.

At least Riv would play most games......i reckon you could count on about 4 or 5 games from Gumbo....

Kinda agree that he isn't essential as a backman,

But I actually liked him as a forward, he isn't going to kick bags of 6-10 like a Reiwoldt or Franklin, but he is capable of 2-3 and is a good foil up there for Clark, at least until some forwards are found/developed.

If rivers goes, as it seems could be case, I'd be surprised if he gets more money or a longer contract than what we would offer him. IMO he'd be leaving to chalk up a few wins before he retires, because god knows we still have some pain to go through until we are consistently there or there abouts with the top sides

Unrestricted can't, but restricted can.

Rivers however is unrestricted so in this instance there will be no trade regardless of what happens

That's not true either.

Rivers might insist on a trade so that Melb is not completely dudded.

Do we have Rock Solid info that Rivers has gone???

Exactly WYL still haven't heard that he is gone. The only factual thing that has been said is that he is a free agent and he will be testing the waters. Which is what all OOC and free agents would do as par for course.

We would get compensation through the free agency formula (not that anyone knows what the hell that is yet). Give that he finished in the top 5 B&F surely he'd be considered a higher compensation pick, not top but high-ish.

I still have hope that we'll retain him.

No he won't.

The players didn't fight for FA to just void it when they get it.

The rules have changed - he has every right to leave and do it as a FA, and we will get a comp pick based on whatever the rules say.

Brave new world.

Spot on. Some dont quite understand this yet ; still holding onto the notion "bartering conditions " will be attached . As you suggest RPFC these are the shackles they organised to be rid of .

And that's why he should stay. Being a one club player surely means more in due course, than simply going to another club now and being a serviceable, bit part player for the next few years.

Bruce, for instance, ruined his MFC legacy for me. I have absolutely no affection for the man at all now.

I just want whats best for the club. Players can come and go, provided its done professionally . What they do after they leave is up to them. Im not that interested.

Finals/Premierships are a pretty strong lure, especially if you've come from MFC.

Do you think that former club captains Stan Alves and Greg Wells regret leaving and playing in premierships ? Do you think if they had their time over they'd be one club players and not premiership players ?

Exactly. I dont decry players seeking the best opportunity for themselves.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
