I've been banging on about it for a while now but we only have about 6 good players: Clark, Frawley, Grimes, Howe, Jones & Trengove. Blease & McDonald both have talent but need to work harder to overcome the flaws in their game. I couldn't care less about the rest of the failed leaders, unfulfilled talent, lazy pricks & D graders on the list. Let's add Jack Viney and 3-4 more talented kids & move on from the mess of 2012.

We will ruthlessly analyze the list now - Neeld in his presser.

He'd want to get it right, because the ruthless analysis may turn to him next year...

Thats correct...so far all we that have seen is how bad this team is under its new coach and a manner that implies that he has a steely resolve (cliche intended) to change things.

If he doesnt have the Board onside then he's 'toast' imo.

Its taken him a year to find out what he could have been told on Demonology last season. and apparantly lost Moloney in the process. For better or worse, but its line ball .

Despite what Landers seem to think he's not going to Trade out of trouble because the few, very few, trade optiions worth anything he'll want (have) to keep, and the obvious duds will get no takers.

His Bate gamble looks ill advised now doesnt it? Probably only Watts is worth anything.

And contrary to opinions around here its unlikely that a 'free agent' would see a future at MFC,let alone the plural free agents people here talk about.

I'd suggest Mitch wouldnt be coming if this was the year of his move, even if Neeld is more attractive in negotiations than he appears in televised rev ups (irony intended) and 'pressers.

About now Tom Scully is thinking....we all resigned,we got rid of Choco,I'm filthy rich. I doged a bullet...as long as Beamer doesnt come here, how good is this?

I might have googles on but I still cant see what the coach is drinking

Agree Stuie.

If it isnt already, the honeymoon is over for Neeld and many of the players. Excuses of new game plan etc etc will not wash in 2013.

I will be watching closely what we trade/delist/draft and how we start off pre season.

I think Neeld knows the bunson burners are on him. They should also be turned directed at those who appointed him.

I am hoping for a miracle over the next six months that the team that runs out on the ground in March is completely improved from the carp that has soiled the MFC jumper this year.

Why did we play Mark 'donuts 4 disposals' jamar??! seriously this bloke needs to do alot more around the ground! that was [censored] weak effort. atleast spence was getting bit of the ball and having a serious dip. i know that spencer would have got mauled today but it would have given him great learning curve on how hard you have to work a prime big man ruckman.

Are you sure he would have got mauled?

Jamar did not cover himself in glory.

IMO Spencer has been better than that effort over the last month.

On the basis of last nights effort Moloney is a keep

If he isn't better than 6 -7 from last night I will bare my a--e in Bourke street.

Agree with all that IRW, after a full season we could only manage 5 goals against a team barely clinging to the 8.

At what stage does Neeld claim responsibility , think I prefered Bails offensive plan, Is Neeld a coach? Appears to be more a statistician counting defensive efforts, can't see what he is trying to do, what about the highly paid Craig?

Does Neeld go in with a plan to score goals, I just can't see it, the waters are murky.

He isn't and he wont be.

And when you are in Bourke Street doing your show make sure its a time when no one is around.

Good point RR.

I am only jesting mate

However we are serious short of players.

I know we have a lot of injuries and it was a pointless game as far as the MFC is concerned.

But we have a very long to go with our list.

I think 2013 is going to be only marginally better

On the umpiring, anyone else thinking 'only us' with the first 50 and goal?

Just about sums up the putrid year. Howe last week get contact in the protected zone, no 50. Minimal contact from us, 50 an goal to Mayne.

Face palm.

The process of appointing Neeld was flawed - MFC has paid the price this year - we cannot afford another year of this self inflicted destruction.

What it does show that a lot of our supporters know nothing about setting up a club properly for sustain success, or know anything about football for that matter but they are entitled to have an opinion.

I just re-read your post.

What you say is actually the problem.

Forever and a day the players have been let off lightly.

In fact the whole club has been let off lightly.

We have been too "nice", for too long.

We have had the best of the draft for the last few years, but we haven't been able to do much with it - so far.

If we had chosen Natanui over Jack Watts, woud he have become the force he is at the Eagles?

I doubt it.

We would have made excuses and said things like "we don't want to rush it" and unfortunately that would have been the only option had.

We didn't (and still don't) have A class players to pay along side.

Many of our older more mature players, were lazy and one dimensional.

They had never been taught how to defend - even in the backline.

So when Neeld came along with his strong belief in defensive to be offensive style of play these older guys (with a couple of exceptions) had trouble doing that.

They were used to giving us fans a hard-on one week with no punishment the following week should they not do it again. I think Colin Sylvia is guilty of this - so was Moloney but you can go back to the days of Robbo, Yze, Bruce and so on to find others who perpetuated this culture in the club.

Neeld is trying to weed out players who continue along these lines.

If we were still under the coaching of someone like Bailey, I might agree the situation is desperate. But we now have a coach who has a plan.

It is also obvious some players cannot cope with what the coahes are asking them to do.

And, want they are asking is no more than sides such as Hawthorn, Geelong and others in the top echelon serve up, week after week.

I agree with most of what you say BD.

The difference is that we disagree on Neeld. As with some other posts, I believe Neeld should have seen a lot of this earlier and definitely should have dealt with it differently. I don't believe he has the ability required to do the job.

The nett effect has been the worst and most divisive year I have seen at MFC in over 50 years, as I have said elsewhere. Putting the red line through names should start at the top. I know that's a tough call, but this situation is so serious, a bold and courageous action is needed, or we will be talking this same way in about 9 months time. There is at least one experienced coach available out there who could do better!

Unfortunately with all that happened at the club this year Neeld was never really afforded a honeymoon period.

...and on Howe, it seems the opposition tactic is to take him out of the contest before he can get to the ball. As Dermott said last night he, meaning Dermott would have done a Phil Carmen on that umpire if he had been taken out like that with no free kick. It's happened more than once.

And for the last time get rid of the stupid bloody trumpeter before our boring as buggery home games. Whatever it is they are trying to do isn't working and we look like a bunch of toffee nosed [censored] ends.

But criticizing the trumpeter is divisive and tears our club apart... or so I was told.

Yep - you're right. How he took such a fantastically talented, super fit, experienced, physically hard AFL list to 16th on the table this year is beyond me. To think, following the superb performances towards the end of last season, I had thought we were a lock-in for the finals this year.

If only we had a better process. Perhaps we could have landed Mick Malthouse or Allan Jeans or perhaps even Norm Smith.

It's so good that we have you to straighten up everyone's thinking about Mark Neeld. Thank you Hardnut.

I've liked the argument - but fact is the only changes that should be made at the moment are players. (Which is an accepted practice done every year)

Should Neeld not have a chance to mould the list in to a group that wants to play for him??? Or is it your plain dislike for him that demands he should go??

So we do things just because it is accepted practice? Bold, innovative new approaches are not allowed?

Did you hear the a radio discussion this morning about how poor the Collingwood game plan is, and yet that's the approach MFC is being told to follow and the players are wrong because they don't like it or can't follow it, or won't/can't buy into it?

My comments have never been personal - they are based on what happens.

Every year we come out and lose virtually every practice match and play like shiite. Everyone says 'ITS ONLY PRACTICE' but we are practicising to play like shiite. And we go into the season with zero momentum. We haven't won a 1st round game since 2000 and F**** 5

Next year I wanna see fire and I wanna see hardness and I want to see desire and effort. I can't watch any more of this crap.

No we wont...well.. the context of the "when" is the issue

The list has ALREADY been analyzed. What happens now is the printing of pink slips

What happens now is the ramping up of contact with players' managers

What happens now is carnage........and if its not I for one will want to know why.

What really happens now is step 2, the cull.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
