This is different to any win under Bailey we had for these reasons (and I mentioned this in the game day thread):

1. We won a slog. A hard, contested game.

2. We won against a genuine team in good form.

Forget the crap about Essendon, yes they were poor, but they were poor because we were at the footy first, and we positioned ourselves fantastically well at stoppages - and dominated Watson in the clearances.

I am not getting carried away by the one win, but I am about the circumstances of the win.

Winning is great, but winning a hard fought slog against a good team is effing beautiful.

Agree. Actually I would've been very happy with the result even if we'd lost. Because I like the way we're playing. It's the way footy is meant to be played and the ONLY way we'll forge a team capable of winning finals.

I saw NONE of this under four years of Bailey.

Neeld was on mmm before the game and I missed it and will podcast it but they were saying afterwards how positive he was and they hit him with the hard questions but he turned every question into a positive and Trengove said after the game Mark was just positive through the week so I guess if the players pick up on this and start to believe him and his plan.

Can't be overemphasised. We were in front at half time, but then they came out with more intent. We soaked it up, but were still 8 points down at the last change. There was a time that would have been game-over, but to get up from there, to slog our way back and win was something that we've (almost) never been able to do. More importantly, it's the mark of a good side.

Neeld made some great moves yesterday, the obvious one being Garland to the forward line.

But to me it was very noticeable that the two captains had much more time on the ball than I've ever seen, and Moloney had a field position most of the night & spent very little time on the ball. Jacks G & T had interrupted pre-seasons and lack of fitness has prevented them from being played where they had most effect on a game, until last night.

The quality of their clearances and ability to find space in traffic is the best we have. This was a watershed game, a changing of the guard, in that respect, and it paid great dividends all round. As far as I'm concerned, with the two Captain Jacks and Jones as our main midfielders, we will look so much better.

Moloney too gave heaps in his unfamiliar role, still got plenty of good possessions, and he will be a huge handful for any HBF. Wouldn't have been easy to tell Beamer he was playing HFF.

Tom runs 100 his way as he thinks he knows best and then he runs 100 Duvall's way. Duvall's way was faster and better on tire's. Yes. I was thinking the same thing. Also beating a top 4 team will prove to the list that it really is a 4 quarter effort.

Blease's shift in attitude this year was apparent. It was clear. And as a result of "buying in" and improving his football, he was rewarded with a contract.

Those refusing to buy-in are on the outer for a reason
