Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Hmmmm.... This is a bit silly for mine.

You don't like the way he goes about it? Moloney is one of very few MFC players capable of winning his own ball, and I don't think trying to break through the lines rather than handballing to a stationary teammate 2 inches away is "burning his teammates". He and Jones are the only two fighting to win the ball and you say he avoids the contest and wants it "served up"? Totally off the ball on this one mate, although I would love Couch to come in.

However, so far I'm finding it hard to disagree about Sylvia. Not too surprised though, would have thought he'd be one of the players that wouldn't click with Neeld.

I don't know if playing one bad game against one of the best sides in the competition makes you not clicking with the coach is quite right.

On reflection, Bennell seems to be making his case for a recall to the firsts. I think he normally gets used as quick defender who can attack but maybe it's a chance to try him again as a forward who can defend instead of Dunn??

Yep, fair point Boss. Probably jumping the shark a bit early, however I did say "so far". I still maintain though that it won't pan out for Sylvia and Neeld, just can't see Col taking to the discipline very well, would love to be wrong cos you add discipline and consistency to his game and watch out!

I'm sure Col will have his standard 2-3 awesome games, but I'd rather him collect 22 touches, 6 tackles, and a goal or two every week than take mark of the year with 36 touches once or twice.

Every week this thread calls for our small half forwards to be dropped. This week it is Sylvia and Bail's turn. Our game style/ball movement isn't giving them much of a chance at the moment.

I would bring in Watts and Bennell for Tapscott and Sellar. (We would need to play Clark as the second ruckman, which robs our forward line a bit but gives us more pace.)

Moloney is out of form but has been our best player over the last two years. I would persevere with him for a bit yet.

Taken from the Age article on the Casey game.

Watts' last goal came from a clever one-handed grab while holding off his opponent. The athletic forward laid one tackle, and Casey coach Brett Lovett did not know whether it would be enough to earn a quick recall.

I will be disappointed if he regains his spot based on that.

Done and done mate. Look, I have no problem with Sylvia whatsoever, has all the talent in the world, just looks a little lost in the games he's played so far, although in his defence, most of the team looked that way the first couple of games!

Oops...and I took so much trouble in previous posts to get Joel Mc and Tommy Mac right! Just shows I can be confused when there's only one Fitz..... Apologies to Jack if he's masochistic enough to follow any of our threads. I really do know who he is.

Except that as far as I know, it is Tommy Mc and Joel Mac

Back to topic - I didn't see either game but from accounts young Fitz is playing well and Sellar isn't, with fewer strings in his bow even at best. Surely a one for one here would be logical.

Neeld has shown - this week JW not fulfilling his appointed task v Saints - that he has zero tolerance for non compliance, so should Sylvia and / or Moloney be starting to sweat?

And I doubt if Magner would be "rested" other than perhaps be made the sub for late impact - it would be harsh on one who has shown the way in his first few games to man more experienced colleagues. And MN seemed pretty happy with his role in the presser if I heard right. (Pity Telstra or BigPond or whoever cant be bothered doing anything at all about the audio quality of the questioner)!

I think Fitzy has earned a chance, so bring him in for Sellar.

That would be my only change. I'm confused by the calls to "rest" or drop Magner. Yesterday in the second half he was given a job as a defensive forward on Scarlett and did a much better job than Sellar.

Bennell maybe comes in on form also - maybe at the expense of Bail.

I see your point, but Neeld did say it was about more than just the tackling.

I'm not sure if he'll come back after just one week, but if he doesn't, I'm also not sure it will be simply because he didn't lay enough tackles for Casey.

As average as Moloney has been this year he's still one of the few midfielders on our list that can actually extract the ball from a stoppage as opposed to simply jumping on it to create another stoppage, I really can't see any reason to drop him. If there was some green midfielder tearing it up in the VFL who's spot he was blocking that would be another story, but can anyone name one? I certainly can't.

There was footage too of the tackle on the 2's highlights clip that's kicking around and it was very, very friendly. Like a cuddle you might give an aging grandma.

Hope he is not picked til he lays the type of tackles that would take out a mother in law for the rest of a game.

Not much talk of Dunn?

Sub on saturday, but not much of a contribution in is time, and hasn't done much ths year. Less than one tackle a game and less than ten disposals too. I'd have him out for Watts or Petterd, or bring in Couch as an extra solid mid.

For the love of God if there is one change Pretty please with a scotch on top Sellar out Fitzy in. I know sellar is Neil craig's love child and he can love him at Casey.

+ 1 on this Maloney has not been great but he does take another midfielder from the opposition and has a big body to crash through packs. Sylvia was very good last week when he came off the subs bench but was found wanting yesterday. I think we may need him against the bigger bodied Hawks as we have no obvious replacement but it's up to Neeld

The Liam Jurrah comment is an interesting one - why not as a sub?

It would just lift everyone!!

It's good in theory but if you loose a player ealry its a full game for him, look long term and give him another full game with Casey

The sub needs to be picked on the assumption that if you get an early injury you are confident they will get through the game. I expect LJ to play VFL next week and get 4 quarters of match fitness. I would then not be surprised for him to play the next 2 weeks at AFL level (most likely as the sub) whilst Casey are not playing.

Good point by you and Pennant....

Assuming all goes well with the court hearing, I'd love to see him subbing in a week's time.

Can't wait.

Two things needed against the Hawks:

Big bodies and brains. Small bodies get pushed off the ball, and dumb footballers get confused.

IN: Bennell, Fitzpatrick (he might not be too smart but Sellar has been awful)

OUT: Sellar, Dunn

Can't believe people calling for Bail, Trengove, Tapscott, Magner and Moloney to be dropped.

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.
