Out: Dunn, McDonald, MacDonald

In: Grimes, Petterd, Couch(?)

Dunn was utter tripe today. All he does is stand around pointing and yelling at others to get in position, when he himself won't. He was second to the ball all day, continually behind his man which meant in marking contests he kept having to try working the opponent under the ball, and he managed about 4 touches all game. Go away Lynden. You're useless.

Tom McDonald has heart but he is a total liability with the ball in hand. He's young and inexperienced, sure, but he's destroying our backline with needless turnovers. He's not ready, IMO, and shouldn't be playing.

MacDonald is a nothing player, and we're going nowhere with him in the side.

The ins are much of a muchness, but if Grimes is fit he should return, and Petterd will at least touch the ball more than Dunn did.

I like the above.

OUT: Dunn (please never play again), Joel Mac (see Dunn), Tom Mc (just a spell, you've had your taste, now you need the hunger), Clark (assuming he doesn't pull up)

IN: Grimes, Petterd, Nicholson, Fitzpatrick (if no Clark)

Outs- Watts, Macdonald, Macdonald, Clark(if he plays Dunn out)

Ins- Couch, Petterd, Grimes, Davis

Watts cost us the game today, that dropped mark was horrendous and the biggest turning point in the match, im not Watts bashing its just the facts, the 2 macdonalds are never to pull this jumper on again

Give Watts a break. Yeah he dropped the mark but how many marks were dropped for the game? Our poor kicking/handballing skills cost us the game not one dropped mark!

I think it's time for Petterd to come in for a few games, not this constant up and down. Let's see him settle and string a few games together, same with Morton. We need to work out the keepers.

Grimes will be back for one of the Macs and Couch deseves a game but with our one dimensional midfield he doesn't bring a point of difference. We really need a Nicholson, Bennel or Blease to step up to add some leg speed but they just haven't.

Maybe look at moving Garland forward or even in to the mids, Watts is probably our best user of the ball so maybe he could develop as a running half back a bit like Murphy.

No matter what, it looks like a long year ahead.

Dropped mark affected the game more than those 2 timely goal assists to Bate...?

I don't think so.

were you at the game?

i was and straight after the resulting goal no one went up to Watts and gave him any encouragment, no one. The whole team lost the wind out of their sails, shoulders slumped and that was the end of our chance to win

Out- McDonald, Dunn

In- Petterd, Grimes

Dunn was quite awful and McDonald looks like our biggest liability in defence. Morton's still a bit of a question mark regarding his ball use and toughness but he had a good final term. I thought Joel MacDonald was pretty good

Int: Sellar, Morton, Tynan

S: Magner

Our backline is so horrible. We all know our midfield is full of battlers but they'd get a heap of help if they have someone on the outside of midfield or half back to help out. I'm sick of half back flankers like McDonald *2 and Bartam who can't distribute the ball. And don't tell me about Bartram's defensive work because Dalhaus was everywhere today. Time to put Tapscott and Bail behind the ball.

It's a sad state when the team is deflated that easily. Watts has been one of our most reliable players this year. It's at the stage now when whenever we get the ball I want it in his hands because he seems to be the only player in the team who can consistently hit a target.

The thing that killed us today (other than the umpires) were terrible turnovers. Guys like Macdonald, Mcdonald, Garland, Bartram were all constantly turning it over off half back. It as probably a combination of poor skills and lack of decent options upfield. It is our main problem at the moment though.

Out- Sellar, Dunn, Jmac, Clark (if unfit)

In- Martin, Petterd, Davis, Fitzy

Whoever's moronic decision it was to drop Martin when there was no proper VFL game on should be shot. How are you supposed to work on your game when you have no means to do that?

Dunn should never put on the red and blue guernsey again. Period.

Petterd will be his replacement.

Jmac's disposal is a disgrace and an advantage for the opposition.

I want to blood Davis and I want to give Fitzy a run if Clark doesn't pull up. I'm not expecting a win anyway- might as well get some games into kids. Yeah we're at that stage allready ffs!

Sylvia is definitely back in for the match against S tKilda, he was fit enough to play this week however missed due to serving first round suspension.

With the team horribly down on confidence, struggling to find any flow, why would you drop a player for a single infringement? What message does that send to the player group? For god's sake, don't try anything, don't go near the ball, cause you might get dropped if you fluff it. Makes no sense to me.

Out: Dunn, Joel MacDonald

In: Grimes, Couch (a must)

Would be good to see Couch in the big league, but with Jones and Magner playing well, Bate OK, and Moloney back in the side, I'm not sure there is a spot for him. Our inside grunt is one of the few things that has been going ok for us.

Sellar had 2 possessions at 3/4 time. Not good enough. Unless we have a specific defensive role for him next week, he shouldn't play.

In: Grimes, Petterd, Martin, Sylvia

Out: Dunn, Macdonald, Sellar, McDonald (even though I love him and think he'll be great)

Not sure if that leaves us short on defenders. Depends if Tappy goes back next week.

Actually ditch my last post. I don't even know who's available. Is Straus ready? Is Blease going to have a crack? Ahh deckchairs on the Titanic, we are going to lose the next 8 anyway

surely not!?? Discipline is one thing but that would be cutting off the snozz to spite the face.

I'd call it setting the standard!

That is exactly what MN said in the press conference.

I'd say they are setting a high uncompromising standard and agree totally!

Without checking how Scorps went today

Ins: Petterd, Couch(try him) and our best performing ruck man with scorps.

Outs: Macdonald, McDonald and Sellar.

Sellar is just ok, tries ok but will never be an Icke, Spalding or even Campbell. He does try but that is it. Might need to find a FF if Clarke doesn't come up.

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
