Grimes Suspended

Recommended Posts

Should take the penalty as he's unlikely to be right for next week anyway because of his concussion.

Slightly off topic, but is the MCC as ground manager considering whether they've got the playing surface right? Both Daniel Jackson (Grimes' sling tackle "victim") and Grimes himself (ironically when tackling Jackson) were concussed by landing head first on the artificial turf outside the boundary line. Maybe the MCC should be suspended...

bit stiff i didnt think it was a sling tackle they both fell

brian lake gets 1 week should have been more

Agree it wasn't a sling tackle, but I thought they might have a look at the Grimes one when I saw the replay showing Jackson's head hitting the ground pretty hard. Agree that Lake should have earned at least 2 weeks for his little effort.

He misses Jimmy's testimonial match because of that? What about the artificial turf, surely that must come into consideration?

He gets the same as Lake for a tackle? Lake blatently hooked someone in the face. And Maric gets off scott free when the impact of his hit was about the same as Lake's?

This game is leaving a sour taste in my mouth!

If the shoe was on the other foot we would be satisfied. I didn't agree with the Trengove/Dangerfield incident, but I can understand the AFL's view on this one. The bloke was out of bounds, yet Grimes still swung him. The whistle had blown, there was really no excuse for it. As soon as he did it I thought he'd be in trouble - the fact that Jackson kept playing gave me some confidence.

Grimes' head missed the synthetic turf, Jackson hit it.

I don't understand why they see it essential to have it on one side of the ground (interchange area). It's not needed.

The shoe is never on the other foot billy! I believe there was no ill intent from Grimes, he's not the sort of guy. Plus I don't think he knew he was in trouble after the incident due to mild concussion

In a seperate incident I would have been more concerned about Jackson dropping his full weight on Jack's head.

I wouldn't. Jackson fell backwards.

This game has gone to the dogs.

No that this Saturday.

A good hard tackle is dead these days. Play on.

Better than the player.

Tackled just inside the field of play, was taken over the boundary line and then swung after the ball was dead. Fair decision, especially given the astr-turf stuff is like cement.

Happened in front of me and Grimes was always going to be a risk for this.

What about the artificial turf, surely that must come into consideration?

It was stationery at the time. Its not a matter of the intent but the outcome. It was careless.

If you want a laugh, go onto afl.com.au and check out the MRP video - specifically, Nathan Jones being fined $900 for umpire contact.

I went to the comedy festival last night, but I think this tops it...

The major issue here is the artificial turf on the ground. Why isn't it grass the whole way around? I think he's pretty bloody stiff, I thought at the time perhaps a free-kick but also thought that it was just the hard part of the the ground made it worse. From my eyes I thought the tackle started outside the boundary and as they were crossing the line they'd we're already falling.

It's catch 22, we get labeled soft for not tackling properly and then a good hard tackle gets a suspension.

We'll probably take the early plea, unless there's no chance of him copping an extra week.

Watch it again old mate and you will see that he does in fact allow himself to fall with full force onto Grimes' head.

He doesn't for a second try and break his fall.

I think if the medical report would have been worse on Grimes' concussion, Jackson would have been cited for rough conduct for sure. I wonder what Richmond's medical report said about Jackson after the Grimes tackle for which he's been rubbed out for...

no wonder we don't fkn tackle hard. We only get suspended if we do. But its OK for West Coast players to iron out our blokes behind the play and/or brake our jaws with flying elbows. What a joke. The umpire initially called a throw in until he saw Jackson was struggling to get up. To the poster above who suggested the whistle had blown and he slung him, by your own admission you weren't there, so STFU. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dC7d1CQDet4

SEE WHEN YOU HEAR THE WHISTLE BUDDY!

As someone else pointed out, Jackson deadset threw all his weight in some sort of wresting move and knocked Jack out cold and gets nothing. Bot incidents are on the link i psoted above. Watch Jackson grab Grimes by the shirt and grimace in effort to throw weight back on him.

I'm sure it was to get him back for the tackle in the first quarter.

Correct.

Appeal !

In actual fact if you watch the replay and pause the incident he hits his head on the very edge of the a.Turf which has a bound edge on it. Probably harder here than in the middle.!!

Slammed his head into the astro turf when on 1st look they were both out of bounds, Jackson stayed down and was very groggy afterwards. Was always going to get 2 weeks (now 1 for guilty plea) based on Trenners outcome. Disappointing to lose him (even if he was fit) but I think fair as he did sling Jackson when he didn't need to, he tried the same later and ended up the knocked out one.

Righto buddy, it doesn't matter a flying if I was there or not. The footage you have provided does actually have the BOUNDARY umpire's whistle being blown while the sling was taking place. The louder whistle is that of the field umpire, due to the fact they are microphoned for tv, hence why there were two louder whistles.

It's fair and reasonable to tackle hard in the field of play, like Trengove, and expect to not face suspension. The Grimes one was totally different - between momentum and the fact the Grimes wanted to finish the tackle ie. bring the player to ground, didn't help his cause. If you can't see it you're too one-eyed.

In regards to the 2nd one. Jackson was probably within his right to make sure he did what he could not to get slung again. After facing what you would assume mild concussion after the first tackle, the last thing he would've felt like was to hit his head on the astroturf again. He used strength to protect himself, which unfortunately for Jack meant landing on top of him. To suggest Jackson did it as payback from an earlier incident just proves how little if any football you have played yourself. There was no way Jackson knew who was tackling him - he had his back to the tackler, it wasn't until he went out of bounds and with momentum was aware of the chance of being swung again and acted in his best interest.

I'm sorry for slapping you in the face of reality.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full
