As someone who fought this battle as a teenager and won, I sincerely hope he can break through. Problem is, it appears he doesn't even want to, so what can you do really.

Maybe the media could give it a rest and let him kill himself in peace perhaps.

I think it has gone on too long Smokey, i don’t think he could “just give up” now. Meth is in his bones now...his DNA almost...

Would Caroline's "hats" possibly know more about bike gang habits than "tank" driving?

I think he is too far gone, there were rumblings earlier this year of positive steps and being at the Eagles again. Being on that sh it for so long I just don't know if you could pull yourself out of that hole.

Had that much gear his brain is practically mush is what I was told by medical expert.

18.40 into the podcast on the 20th. I can’t post it as it’s protected. Pretty low I thought. To be clear What she said re statue was “ he deserves it as a player but not as a president” after saying what we did was as bad comparable to EFC.

This is why I can't stand the witch! The key reason Jimmy got a statue was because of him being a bloody good player. Maybe she should worry about her [censored] father who [censored] the tigers up while serving as president.

This has only one ending IMO.

If only the Eagles had not looked the other way all those years ago it might have been avoided.

Having been through very similar, I really feel for his family. They would feel completely helpless and there is just a sense of inevitability about how it will all end.

I genuinely hope for a miracle, as that is what it will take.

Time that 2006 Premiership was taken off them.

Punky was high as a kite. And doubtless not the only one.

Really sad. Was such an inspirational player. A living testimony to the culture of the eagles at the time. Yes Ben is responsible for his own life but so many people in power over there also have a hand in his current state. He was Captain of an AFL premiership side FFS. So sad.

In a related topic..Caro ( dont we love her) in the age podcast yesterday said that what Melb did re tanking was " as bad as what EFC did"  and it bothered her to see Jimmys statue outside the G. I  wanted to explode. When I heard the cousins story today and thought about drugs in sport in general I couldnt help but reflect on the stupidty of her comments,. Why am I even surprised though?!

I just wish the idiots like Eddie, etc., hadn't commented/used her gender when attacking her, as gender has nothing to do with her being a nasty spiteful person, and she really deserved to be taken down a peg or two. Now any criticism of her is seen through a gender lens (and to be fair the need to fix gender issues/inequality in society is far far more important than football) but I really wish she could be called out for peddling so much unkind merde.

Sad story and more hell for Brian and all the family.

Also a lesson to elite schools and sporting clubs to not turn a blind eye to problems and substance abuse because somebody is an elite talent

Very sad. Interestingly his doco came through on my youtube page last night. I watched about 30 mins of it.

The Drug took him a long time ago, he can’t live outside anymore, even if he wants to and tries really hard.

The drug has got him

http://druginfo.sl.nsw.gov.au/drugs/a-to-z-of-drugs/ice-speed-other-methamphetamines

There are different forms of methamphetamine, generally distinguished by their appearance and perceived purity. The three main forms are:

  • crystalline (ice or crystal)
  • powder (speed)
  • base.

Ice affects everyone differently, but effects may include:

  • Feelings of pleasure and confidence
  • Increased alertness and energy
  • Repeating simple things like itching and scratching
  • Enlarged pupils and dry mouth
  • Teeth grinding and excessive sweating
  • Fast heart rate and breathing
  • Reduced appetite
  • Increased sex drive3,4,5

Hard to be empathic when you read the detail of the vile threats he made towards his ex and children. He needs to go away for a long stretch.

Well I would add dumb as an adjective then.

Clearly he got the statue for his playing not for being President.

Also as I said earlier, to compare using the rules to manipulate a PP, as done and admitted by several clubs and ticked off as ok by the then CEO Demetriou, with injecting unknown drugs into players, is just plain stupid.

It is actually a shameful proposition. Why did she feel the need to go there in the first place?

Agreed.  Addiction is an illness and he is very, very unwell, but the threats that he is making to his ex and children are scarily familiar and there’s a dire outcome if he is not removed from their lives.

Back in February I posted a tale I was told by a motel owner in Mudgee who is the brother of the West Coast full back in Whoosher's day. He said that Worsfold was referred to by the name of his profession. Then he said substance abuse was rife among  West Coast players. He said what had happened at Essendon was the tip of the iceberg in the AFL, Essendon's crime being they got sprung. There are now too many tragic pointers that the culture at West Coast was rotten to the core. ( He also mentioned the name of a surfer type who played a few games for the Demons in the late 80's who had a habit of simply going AWOL.) Then there was the West Coast player who flatlined in the USA postseason, the tragic after footy life of Kerr, and there are most probably other we haven't heard about yet. There was also the remark from Akermanis about the freakish running ability of Braun who had tagged him in a Brisbane West Coast encounter.

I am reporting what a motel owner in Mudgee told me. He may well have been off with the fairies. He was an ex WA boy though, and his surname is the same as the bloke who played as full back for West Coast.

What I'm getting at, in my usual long-winded way, is there was  culture of drug abuse at West Coast, a culture which - according to the motel owner in Mudgee - was there from the beginning. The AFL must have known about it, how could it not???

Sad cases, like that  of Ben Cousins don't arise from nowhere.

Just recently the almost surreal facts of Bomber Thompson's hidden life have surfaced.

I wonder why a journalist with Caroline Wilson's aspirations doesn't investigate the background to these very murky AFL backwaters rather than devoting vitriol towards a dead man who presided over a football club which did what every other side had done in similar circumstances.

I take exception to this and actually find it quite insulting. As someone who went through Reach as a 14 year old I saw first hand the impact that this man had on so many young lives.

We all saw the Gillon press conference at the time the punishment was handed out, he could not categorically explain what tanking even was.

I don’t hate Caroline, I don’t think she is a bit*h. However if you think that moving a few magnets completely voids Jim’s body of work then you might need to re-think your priorities in life.

Wow!! Really?? Wilson absolutely hates the MFC, sad she is able to vent such personal vendettas on the club when the main protagonist was moved on about 5 years ago.

Across the board Drug Cheating with no visible records kept > Resting a few players and moving positions

Frank Underwood to you Caroline

I listened to the podcast on the way to work this morning, could not believe it when she talked about Jim’s statue and compared Melbourne’s tanking episode with essendon’s injecting program. It undid anything complimentary she said about us getting over the huge hurdle of Sunday.

Just shows she takes it all very personally, can’t let it go, and must have really hated Cameron shwab’s guts.

anyway at the end of the day, she the one that looks the fool - bitter and mean spirited

Time to close thread

Yeah sad story . but of his own choosing,

Not one of ours

Feel for his family , had it all and it wasn't enough!

Don't need to be reminded about his fall from Grace time and again!

Close thread, nothing more can be said or for that matter ..done!

Depressing stuff!

Reiwoldt bascially said the same thing on 360 tonight. Bumped into him at his hotel in Perth earlier this year.... glimpses of the old him but most of it scared him and wasn’t the same person.

Ps this isn’t really the thread for a Caro discussion on what she said about Jimmy, is it?

And maybe people should listen to what she said before commenting on what she said...

Considering you're the one who bumped a 6 year old thread its probably a bit rich that you're telling everyone what they are allowed to talk about.

I've listened to what she said. Not sure if there's too many ways you can interpret it...

Is it just me, or does anyone else think this thread is going to keep going for a other 5 years until we open a new one called "RIP Ben Cousins"

It's beyond sad now, and it looks as though he won't find his way back.

Yep going to have a very sad ending this one.

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.

The Dees are back at the MCG on Thursday for the annual blockbuster ANZAC Eve game against the Tigers. Can the Demons win back to back games for the first time since Rounds 17 & 18 last season? Who comes in and who goes out?
