does anyone know what the story of cook is at the moment.

He hasn't played any NAB games, nor is listed for this week. Also I don't remember seeing his name in the injury list.

Surely he should get a run if he is fit?

Had a reasonably serious operqtion at the end of 2011

Has been getting over that in the pre season

Played last week for Casey and got a goal in win vs Port Melbourne

Game was in very wet conditions and a low scoring affair.

Is Cook good?

Hard to tell - hardly anyone has seen him

Anyone seriously still maintain he was a better pick than Jack Darling?

That said, I sincerely hope he comes good. But, from the sidelines, it's pretty disappointing that he's not managed a single game in this year's NAB Cup if he's not injured.

It also concerns me that few, if any, here are talking about him knocking down the door for selection in the seniors in 2012.

Darling/Cook............................Oh Dear!

Apologies. It was a fairly undisciplined post by me.

Like everyone else though, I am genuinely interested to read any updates on his progress.

Oh dear!!!

Unlike Watts and Scully, Strauss before Zaharakis seemed a genuine surprise to most posters on this forum (and Demonology) at the time.

Oh dear!!!

Darling had an incident in some night club and West Coast made sure every recruiter knew about it - great tactic.

BTW, they also started the hype that young footballers get homesick from the west and want to return home - another great tactic

Who's their recruiter? Let's get him!

Let's not get going on the Jack Darling thing again.

Cook can play, he has good skills however I'm not sure if he has the grunt to make it.

It really concerned me when in an interview early last season he said he was looking forward to getting game time and development at Casey. Hardly pushing the bar there and maybe that came from the coaches. At least Neeld has told Leigh Williams that he will probably spend some time at Casey but not to limit himself, if he is kicking goals and playing good footy he will be looked at, it's up to him.

Lucas needs to set the bar high and go for it, none of this nice development rubbish. I mean look at young Tynan, he probably won't get a game first up but he also won't die wondering either. When I first saw him at training early in the year he looked like a young kid (he is) with a long way to go (he still has) but he really has applied himself and made big strides in a short time. Some of the others could take a leaf out of his book.

Saw Lucas at my work the other week, seemed like a really nice guy.

What really surprised me though is how big he is (vertically). However, until he puts on a few more kay gee's we aren't really seeing his full potential. Darling had the physique to step straight into AFL footy.

I saw Cook twice last year in the flesh and a couple of times on ABC TV games.

At no time did he fill me with delight.

However he seemed to be the third or fourth option with fev playing as well as Dunn , Bate etc playing a lot of games at Casey.

Then he got injured with a resulting operation very late in the season.

From the comments I have read it seems he had a limited pre season.

That probably is the reason he has not figured in the NAB games.

It would appear he has had a couple of reasonable games with Casey so far.

Will he make it?

Who knows, as some mentioned earlier he is a tall bean pole at present.

I serious doubt he is close to playing in the seniors at present.

He is evidently a nice kid but will a nice skinny kid make it at AFL level?

My biggest query is will he get heavier? Is he another Morton.

Some guys stay skinny.

I doubt he will be much use to the seniors this side of 2014

He is a first round pick and as such IMO we have no choice but to continue with him.

I'm reserving judgment on him, but I continue to be baffled as to why we went for him so early in the draft. One has to wonder if he would have been around with our second selection.

We took Howe with that one.

Posted

We took Howe with that one.

I guess if Howe continues to improve and Cook amounts to nothing we can say we did well out of the year.

Drafting is a lottery there is no guarantee that an early pick will be very good as a senior player.

The game is littered with first round players who did not make it.

We have to give the kid a go, he is a skinny 19year old who has been injured. He was stunted by Brendan Fevola joining Casey an then got injured. The MFC was ropable as it put the kid back 12 months

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
