The slate has been wiped clean. Let's not make up a lot of BS, when we don't even know what the totally new FD has in mind.

I can't wait to see what unfolds in the new year, watching the changes in roles the team members have to play.

I'm quite certain it won't be the same old crap we've been dealt for the last 4 years.

The Mid Field will certainly not be the same. The same goes for the Forwards and backs.

No, you're right the midfield won't be the same. But it won't be much different either. Gysberts, Bail and McKenzie will be more prominent than in 2011 (fingers crossed that is the case), they'll be stronger, fitter and more influential than in 2011.

I have already posted in this thread and commented on the lack of quality required to compete against the better teams. I think we'll be better "equipped" in 2012 - injuries permitting - however one thing I didn't initially mention and I don't think it has been mentioned in this analysis thread yet, is our lack of speed. I think this will still be telling in 2012 and prove the difference against the stronger midfields again in 2012. We may see the likes of Bail, Nicholson, Blease float in and out, but our sheer lack of speed and nous will be evident at times.

He's a good midfielder JT. And an elite clearance player.

But he goes missing against the best teams and I can only think of excuses for him, and I think even he wouldn't accept those.

He needs to get better if he wants to be anything more than a B+ mid and have achance to be in a flag winning side.

I dont disagree that Moloney goes missing at all, he does but what i want to ask is who else would go missing in the MFC team from the last 3 years? Bartells? Powers? Sewell?

I honestly think that these guys may also stuggle in our team gone by, because they all put in bad performances in top 4 teams....

As I said in my previous post in this thread, it's all just the psychology of the supporter, so I wouldn't take it too personally on Liam's behalf RudeBoy. It's just because people raised the bar ridiculously (impossibly) high in their minds. As Liam continues to improve and supporters' expectations come back to sensible levels I think people's feelings for him as a player will balance out.

What you say is right Rudeboy but goals and goal assists constitute half of the modern forward's job these days. Intensity, pressure and ferocious tackling is the other component and on that score Liam has failed to set the world alight so far.

Whether he is able to or not will determine his longevity and quality as a league footballer.

I have always been a supporter of LJ, and always will.However, a very fit LJ would not only give him the much needed confidence to become an elite player but set an example for all others.

I unashamedly belong to the old school of Ron Barassi when it comes to talent. Jurrah has been born with amazing talent and that in itself deserves no respect, it's what he does with that talent that is crucial in a football sense. What he's been able to do to date has pretty much been on the back of his natural ability, but that won't satiate himself, or his coaches as he's capable of so much more.

I think most people cut him slack when they consider the massive journey he's undertaken, but at the same time there are plenty that recognise the glaring weaknesses in his game. Entering his 4th year and at the age of 22 it's a pivotal time for him and his football career. We know his talent, but unfortunately so do the opposition and like all good players he's had put plenty of work put into him.

I don't apologize for expecting far more from Jurrah as we move forward.

Liam has enormous talent. He now has to learn how to use it in a very disciplined AFL structure. At present looking at training now his training load has gone up. I hope he has the mental strength to take himself higher.

I don't think people underrate him. He is a freakish talent who now plays in a competition that also needs him to be stronger, fitter, hungrier and more competitive than he's ever had to be before. People watch him play and can see how damaging he could be if he can take his intensity to another level.

Jetta, Davey, Bennell and Lawrence are all options for this role yet each possess varying strengths and deficiencies.

Jetta has the pest-factor tenacity and knows how to kick a goal, but is he quick enough?

Davey has the pace and has early career form in this position, but can he recapture that magic?

Bennell also has the speed and can do the miraculous, but is he a natural goalkicker?

Lawrence apparently possesses a mixture of all of these attributes, but is he still too physically immature to step up?

All curvy questions with no certain answers. I'm not sold on the idea of Jurrah or any of the other mid-sized forwards substituting for this role. With the big man Clark now down there rotating with Jamar through the square, we'll need one or more of those indigenous boys to step up and claim the small forward position as his own.

If they can't, we'll have to draft or go shopping for one.

When he gets caught with the ball,nit is generally around the midfield -different spot with also a different type of player.I think he could get away with this role.I watched his match against Port last night and the thought entered my mind.
