What a shocking draft 2007 is turning out to be

Pick 4 - Morton - still hope, but a pick four midfielder really should be in the best 22, severely underperforming

Pick 14 - Grimes - was past over by other clubs because of being injury prone, looking like a bad gamble by MFC

Pick 21 - Maric - Surprise early pick ,showed why no one rated him

Pick 38 - Traded for Meesen - surprised most when we picked, proved to be a terrible trade

Pick 53 - Cheney - Poor pick, gone

Pick 66 - McNamara - Poor Pick, gone.

Pre-season draft - Martin - Great pickup

Rookie draft -

Zomer - Gone

Wonaeamirri – Can’t stay fit, unlikely to have a career in AFL

Spencer - Knee injury, especially not good for a big man, but still has time

Valenti - Not AFL standard, Gone

So after four seasons, of the 11 players picked up;

6 are no longer at the club due to being not good enough,

3 have major injury concerns and look unlikely to have sucessful career,

1 is severly underpreforming, with most wanting him traded,

1 has been very good.

Do we have to, or do we need to?

I thought we only had to make 3 list changes?

I think we'll take minimal draftees (U-18's) but may elevate some rookies.

IMO we'll be or should be active in the rookie draft,,, seems perfect for this inexact, lowly draft year.

I was excited when we drafted Maric. He was the best kick in that year's NAB draft. Unfortunately, we barely afforded him the opportunity to show it.

If he'd been in a competitive side with good forward delivery, things may have been different.

Unless you're in the calibre of Judd and company, this can be a fickle sport. I wish him the best, and sympathise with him over a lack of opportunity.

is he actually a good kick tho?

Juice Newton must be the best club man in the world, he's way back in the pecking order for tall players these days? Why clog the rookie list with a KPF/pinch hit ruck, when we have a bunch on the senior list?

Maybe the Footy Dept just forgot that Newton was there?

We still need to delist one more, as we have to use three picks in the draft, though one can be used for a rookie elevation.

For the rookie list rules - Rookies can be offered a single year contract provided they are from the same state as the club they go to. If they have to move interstate, the club has to give them a two year contract.

I don't believe that Maric lacked opportunities. Unfortunately he's pretty small, which in itself isn't dire if you're good enough - just ask Brent Harvey - but in Maric's case it hurts. He's not lightening fast for that Ballantyne small forward role, his defensive pressure isn't a strong suit and when he was given an opportunity he rarely showed a compelling argument for his retention, although he did have a few good games. He's quite good overhead for his size, but he's not a genuine midfield option. After 4 years we've seen enough. If I liken him to Geelong's first year player Allen Christensen and study my premiership model it's time to put down the book.

There are hoarders in most streets, so there will always be those that don't want anyone dropped off the list, 'just in case', but clear thinkers won't have issues with this decision.

Way to go early on that one.

What he's shown in his time in the side has been exceptional (some iffy kicking aside).

This is such a ridiculous post.

Maric may have been a decent kick before he came to the MFC. He never, not once, showed that, in any AFL game. Never. I will never back down from that. He was never a good kick when he was in the MFC side.

He was given his opportunities, and he didn't take them. Too often he looked listless, didn't run hard enough, didn't man up, didn't zone, didn't chase, didn't tackle, or didn't look like he knew what he was doing. He didn't get enough of the ball, didn't do anything special with it, and didn't possess any reasonably decent skills that made you say 'Maric is good at x'.

Your last comment about Judd etc. is stupid. Not only does it ignore the fact that Maric played not just as a FP, but also as a HFF and a midfielder, where it doesn't matter how good the midfield is at disposing the ball, but it implies that decent small forwards can only be bred in clubs with good midfields. Which is just wrong. Todd Banfield, Brandon Matera, Hayden Ballantyne are all examples of players who look the part, or better, as a small forward, in clubs without superstar midfields.

Maric was no good. His loss is no surprise, and he didn't deserve a spot on the list in 2012.

Now all we need to do is move Newton on.

I think its a disgrace he has been delisted. Only reason I can think is attitude towards others. Had the best preseason out of the whole team. Dropped by Bailey very harshly when there were many others to be dropped relegated before Mazza. Showed plenty! Really hope you get picked up Mazza, I'm sure you will and show the doubters what fools they are. All the best.

We have until the 31st of October to lodge our list. There will be more cuts made to the senior and rookie lists. Juice cannot and will not survive the cut. Impossible given we just cut our losses with a few other players of similar ilk.

2-3 cuts still to come, and Juice heads the list of players to be cut. Wonna surely gets cut ahead of Macca.

They're making this hard for us. We now have to resort to trying to assasinate Newton. Just put him out of his misery already!!

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
