NEW COACHES

Not really. It is just filling your coaching panel with people you already know can do the job you need them to. You need people who are receptive and conducive to your management style. People unknown to you can be good also, like a fresh pair of eyes and an intelligent counter if needed. Trust however takes time to build, and until it is built, sometimes the lack of it can slow the output and hinder the achievement of team goals. So ... put in people you know so you can avoid the trust building issue.

I'm not starting anything here, Neeld should be able to bring in people who knows can do a job, but I just don't think there is a better option when choosing assistants - trusted people or fresh faces.

That was the impression that I believe Striker was inadvertently giving - that bringing in trusted, known commodities was the best way to go.

I think people you trust, expert IP from other clubs, and a few eyes already around is the best way to go as you said.

It wouldn't surprise me, based on the appointments so far, if we have 2 coaches per line. A head line coach, like Royal, who is more tactical, providing most of the current roles of an assistant coach like week to week tactics, setups and so forth, and then an assistant line coach, like Greaves, who is more of a development coach for the younger players, teaching them about how to play the game etc.

Even if that's not how Neeld is looking to set it up, I quite like the idea. With so many players and so much to do for each line from week to week, having coaches to purely focus on the minute detail of improving each player seems like a smart move.

This is good mail.

Thanks- expected to hit the press after Werribee's B&F this Friday night. As stated a reliable source .Very interesting Neeld seems to be bringing hard working yet unexperienced AFL related yet strong TAC related current experience in the two pick up's it seems in Greaves & Sats. Both are extremely good communicators .

Neeld would seem to have a definite image of the how and why that this club needs to be.

Hes a little bit left field , I like that.

I hope we end up with a team as unpredictable as he is..lol

The important thing for me is that Neeled stated he wants to be surrounded by good and ambitious coaches, much like what Malthouse built at the Pies.

I really think he's trying to change the "near enough is good enough" culture we've had in place for too long.

A good point that you have raised.I think he beleives that we need as a priority a quality coaching panel that indeed arre great communicators to bring out the best in our list.

I'd like to see the following or similar

Senior Coach-- Neeld

Senior Ass. Coach-- Viney

Defence coach- Ayres

Ass Def coach-- Satterley

Midfield coach---Royal

Ass midfield coach-Greaves

Forward Coach- Carey??

Ass F/w coach--Ox ??

Innovations coach/ Dunbar

Development coach--O'Donnell

Ass Dev coach-- whomever coaches Casey.

Have I missed any roles? What forward coaches would you put up or indeed any other different coaches to my recommendations? Await your thoughts

Neeld tweeted just a few minutes ago:

Also like to welcome Jade Rawlings and Paul Satterley – strong appointments. Jade will work with backs and Paul on development with forwards

To be fair, jcb has questioned Carey and the Ox. I would question them too. In an environment where teamwork is essential, my gut tells me that there's no room on our coaching panel for their massive egos, and I don't think they have the coaching experience that Neeld has said he is after. I really like what I've heard about John Barker, and he has good breadth of experience (St.Kilda, Hawthorn and Carlton), but it would take big bucks to poach him away from Carlton after one year (but how satisfying it would be if we decided he was our man, and then snared him from the Scum).

I'm happy with this appointment. Interesting coaching history, but I think it will be a good one...

I agree Vanlo .... I really like this appointment. I also really liked the following comment from Jade: "the enthusiasm and professionalism at Melbourne is something that has really caught my attention, so I was very keen to get involved.” It's not the first time we have heard similar comments recently.

And Emma Quayle seems to be very impressed with Satterley's appointment; she tweeted:

I am T H I S excited for Paul Satterley getting a coaching gig at Melbourne. Dealt with him a lot working on my book. Speaks sense!

Rawlings hardly has the 'successful' background that Neeld was talking about for his FD...

But he's a smart fella so let's hope he relinquishes Grimes to the midfield and can do something with Davey across HB.

Hopefully he can do something with Davey "anywhere"

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out
