That's not correct Don. Luke broke his leg so severely below the knee that when he put weight on it, it crumpled underneath him and for a time his knee and foot were side by side on the ground. This was mid-way through his first season. When he was on the come-back trail in his second season he injured his knee (I don't think it was ACL) and busted his collar bone. He was delisted and subsequently rookie listed, but his infant career never recovered from the injury setbacks. It's grossly unfair imo, to state that the "writing was on the wall that he was a terrible pick". Who knows what might have been if he hadn't suffered the injuries?

I think Jurrah is better, definately a better kick, and if he was playing in the NTFL, he'd be kicking 12+ goals each week and twice as many on Sundays looking at the standard.

But if the club picks him up, I'm wrong.

I have to at mid H_T he probably wouldnt fit in too well down at the dees.

Sounds like it to me too Daisy. Anyway, my point is that most probably, injury played a major part in Luke's career never getting off the ground, and it's grossly unfair imo, to say he was a terrible pick. Through no fault of Luke's (or for that matter Craig Cameron who selected him), sheer bad luck meant that Luke never had a decent opportunity to show us what he had to offer.

As I recall he broke his leg in his first season, possibly pre-season - not many "do much" up until then. And he did the other injuries when he eventually made a come back.

Really, how does that make "a terrible pick"? Please explain?

Rather, "an unknown" - and a bloody unlucky one at that.

Still, I am sure had we have been lucky enough to have you as our recruiter you would have predicted all that!

He looks exciting, in this competition, but as skinny as a rake; a bit of a Jurrah clone.

He would be a huge challenge to the fitness / body building staff, to get the balance between bulk and athleticism.

I guess the big question will be who else is there available at the time and what 'role' would they play?

Unlike Gulf of Mexico fishermen, I will put my faith in BP.

Honestly, the highlight reel makes me less interested. He's not overly fast by the looks of that footage, and those easy goals where he wheeled around and snapped were just too slow to work at AFL level. He'd be nailed every time he tried it. Likewise, his pack marks were a case of better judgement which is good, but nobody put any body pressure on him. He's not going to get away with that sort of play at the top level. It's good that he's kicking so many goals, but that footage raises a whole lot of questions in my mind.

I am so glad that you had the opportunity to see Luke Molan in AFL senior action so as to be able to asses his capabilities or otherwise.

Nobody I know had that opportunity.

Was this before he broke his leg in his first preseason, or when he re-broke it, or when he did his shoulder in his VFL comeback?

It must be very easy, but only of course when one is an expert, to be hyper-critical of someone who due to freak impact injuries never had a chance to show his wares to the rest of us!

Calm down sport and think before you shoot your mouth off. Where in the following three words " or Luke Molan" which are the only words I posted, do I criticise Luke? I was saying yes, he might be Buddy ( a champion ) or Luke ( a player who never played an AFL game).

If we could rookie ZWM, that would be my preference. For all his natural attributes, he only lasted 2 or 3 games with the Claremont Colts before returning home and left halfway through the draft camp (sorry just cant call it a combine) and returned home. I think the go home factor is strong. Jurrah would be a huge help if he did come to Melbourne. Manson reminds me a little of Karl Pederson (sp?) who is also nominating for the draft.

If we did draft Manson, it would scream Malcom Blight rather than Malthouse on the coaching style front.

I must admit I've been keen on him all the way but when I think of it I wonder if there's room in the team for both he and Liam Jurrah since they appear to have similar styles and would take similar roles.

We also have a crying need for midfield types and even though our selections are unlikely to yield us the eliIte, I think we should be trying to find someone like a Sam Mitchell or a Dane Swan at that time in the draft.

In terms of our list, probably not what we need is he, but would be crazy having him and Jurrah running around

I don't think he will make, seems to have talent, but poor fitness and reluctance to become a professional footballer. One of many possible wasted Indigenous talents, could become one of the great Aboriginal players who don't play AFL, COULD!

Manson has now missed the last two games raising questions in some quarters as to whether he has been advised to "lay low" in advance of the rookie draft.

According to this item in the NT News Manson is still confident of being drafted next week - Tah's Manson still confident of AFL call

The Herald Sun did a story on a player with a simular story to LJ but I didn't see him as a drafted player.

Does anyone remember who he was and if he got drafted or not? If not, maybe someone the Dees could look at as a rookie with LJ as a mentor to help him settle in.

Manson is back home, Been there a fortnight as you rightly state.He will be picked up- hopefully by us,even if it may require a heavy workload to condition him here,especially as you have stated we seem to have released Ian Flack.

I'm sorry to be cynical but LJ has shown glimpses without setting the world on fire and Aussie for a lot of reasons beyond his control just lacked the desperation and drive to make it. Fairytail stories rarely happen and it's time this club made the real hard decisions, Manson turned up at draft camp in thongs to do some of his runs and slept in for the day of the endurance testing or that is what was reported, so I'm sorry I am not willing to take the risk on him even as a rookie give me a Woewodin or Dean Cox any day as a rookie prepared to put in the hard yards and do whatever it takes to make it
