Well its great to have energy Watch on board. There was some talk not so long ago about another new sponsor for the other side of the Guernsey.

Gone quiet.

Any news ?

cheers

This season isn't even over with yet.

It is for us....

Kia & the Bank of Melb were both mentioned---I suppose with Skullduggery taking place over the last couple of weeks- Schwabie can get back on the case..

I would have thought if possible youd roll out your 2012 campaign using your 2012 sponsors.

And our 2011 season is well and truly done and dusted...even if the media keep thelime light on us.

Think there's still stuff about Kaspersky staying with the club tbh

I thought it was at a lesser level though..So not on the jumper.

Posted

Kaspersky will stay on as a sponsor, just not as joint major sponsor. Which still leaves the front of our jumper up for grabs. Why not just go back to BoM and see if they're still interested? Given what we have gone through recently, it would generate a lot of good press for us if we were able to announce our new coach, sponsor and possible mini-draft player al within a couple of weeks. It would give us some real momentum going into the pre-season and the season proper.

so if the back's worth 1.9 p/a whats the front of an "in the media" team's jumper worth ?

You mean like have him shown at a branch depositing his first pay cheque, with some of the boys behind him in line, ready to do the same..

you paint an interesting scene :)

Funny whenb you consider BOM colours are Blue...and its parent Red !!

Eve nmore curious when you notice on their website the BOM logo ( blue ) sits in a red haze , almost like a ghostly Melb jumper !! lol

just seeing things probably..

Posted

curious isnt it..I mean what the Devil (lol ) is that Red doing there ?? subliminal ? precursory ?

The name MELBOURNE is so powerful... now we just need to work on the team...

There was an article in The Age business section last week regarding BOM and its sponsorship plans. The general gist was that they don't see AFL as their traget market being a national brand rather than a regional brand which BOM is looking to attract. They are not renewing their shorts sponsorship with St Kilda which was sporting the St George brand, which they have essentially taken over.

St George to drop St Kilda shorts as too hot a potato

I guess is doesn't rule a partnerhsip out, but puts a new light on their ideas.

Well.. I was told their prime market is actually indeed Victoria as Westpac perform weaker here than other states. COM beating out most especially in Vic. This is Westpac back door approach. So im told.

You wouldnt be bother with a shorts deal with the Sainters if you had a jumper in mind elsewhere.

The potential for word enforcement and product identification is phenonemal with the MFC.

The idea we cant be usewd nationall y is a crock...go ask Kaspersky..

Bank of Melbourne by its very name doesnt project a national ID it very closely alligns iteself with a city.

BOM is a tier 2 business. Its looking to regain all that the good ol State Bank days before it got rudely reamed by the COM.

But is it our new sponsor...who knows. I dont.

Just think its interesting and certainly strange esp on its website. You dont nned red to enhance the logo..you could do that by fading the blue back ground al lal the logo itself.

Could be a total ruse..( or is that rouge)

Posted

When this first came up didn't a poster who works at BOM/Westpac (or his wife or whatever) say it was a done deal and discussed internally at the bank?

can't be bothered to trawl through the old threads

Posted

Link doesn't seem to work. This is the quote that caught my eye from BOM

''We are looking for more grassroots opportunities with our Bank of Melbourne sponsorships, rather than just be aligned with one club,'' the source said. ''We also see AFL football as a national branding opportunity, and want to take on something that is more identified with Melbourne.''

They go on to mention that last summer's scandals and St Kilda's relationship woth Centrebet also contributed to their decision.

Personally I think it's a great fit.

the MFC offers one thing no other club can...the name MELBOURNE. Eddie would kill for it.

BOM likes things Melbourne... marathon for eg

Im certainly not saying that they will or wont. More could they or couldnt .

They certainly could.....and should.. 2 mill for the front of our jumper per year with all its exposure is cheap ( in banking terms)

You want to get known...we'll do that for you. Especially as a springboard.

Ah B59 - haven't you learnt anything through the $cully $aga?

Just because Energy Watch paid $1.9m p/a, doesn't automatically mean the front is worth anywhere near that.

Hankook were paying $700k per season for the front, I haven't seen anything in the last 3 years to suggest that it is worth much, if anything, more than that.

hello Billy...I so look forward to your commentary.I always feel the wiser for it

My learned fellow supporter....we have just leaped , in the quantum manner, from what we WERE getting.to what we are now able to get.

By your own admission youre ignorant of any reason that our worth of our jumpers back should rise...but rise , and RISE it did. !! funny that

The front is always worth more than the back..you do the math.

Some things actually do follow in a logical manner.

Hankook got a ridiculouly good deal.

I thank Laurie for stepping up but he got his money's worth.

Kaspersky paid $1m for what EW is paying $2m for.

I would expect a similar deal for the front of the jumper.

Hope it comes soon.

I'm certain you get self-pleasure out of putting idiotic faces at the end of some of your lines. Cheer up Emo-ticon kid.

I'm quite sure you, the most knolwedgeable one (self convinced), would understand the general theory of return on investment (ROI). A business would want to ensure that the money they are investing in to something like the pole position of a Melbourne jumper, is going to generate greater exposure, which in turn will lead to greater profit, for such company.

Now, me personally cannot believe that we were "given" $1.9m a season for the back of our jumper. Very impressive work by those involved; perhaps I should get them to sell my next house for me. BUT, just becuase someone believes it is worth that amount, doesn't mean that we have a new going rate for any otehr sponsorship package. This is where my $cully comparison came in. GW$ believed he was worth $6m/6years, but I can assure you that no-one else in the league would have been willing to pay that. So, does that mean every other Club would've paid unders, or did GWS in fact pay overs?

Based on the fact that we got $700k from Hankook, and from what RPFC stated was a great deal, I honestly can't see how, in the 3 year term that Hankook were involved with, that the pole position could've increased over 150%. Did Hankook pay unders? Apparently so. But does that mean Energy Watch paid market value? I am very doubtful they did (meaning they paid well overs). If a client came to me and offered (after negotiation) $1.2m p/a, I'd be quite inclined to take it. But that's why Cam gets paid the big bucks to hopefully bring in the huge sponsorship deals.

While we are in the media for various reasons at the moment, new investors wouldn't be getting a great deal of coverage until February. And surely to god there will be minimal distractions next season, meaning that our media appearances will probably drop. This will basically depend on form, etc.

Let's play a fun game B59, what do YOU think our front jumper sponsor will pay? My call is $4m over 3 years (I realise that equals $1.33m p/a - slightly more than what I mentioned above). That would give us a combined total of $9.7m over 3 years, as opposed to the Hankook/Kaspersky combination of approx $5m over the same period.

This is the comment that concerns me RPFC. I hope Malthouse or RLyon coach us next year. But if we hold off until March to hope that Malthouse changes his mind, and doesn't, what are we left with?

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
