The Mitch Clark Thread

Heart Beats True

Im happy enough we gave up pick 12. Afterall we still have the 2 compo picks in the bank. Im also happy enough to pay him the inflated salary given it apparently wont put a massive dent in our medium/long term list management given the supposed front ended nature of the deal. Win Win really.

Yeah, that may have been sourced from SNF...

I guess we will find out soon.

No, if you read the article I linked, it states that it was from The West Australian.

To be honest I have no idea if Clark is worth what we are paying.

I have not seen him other than the game against us in 2011.

IMO he was probably in their best five that day.

I will take him on the value that the FD thinks he is good.

The part I really like is we finally recruited a forward who can play round 1 in 2012.

We don't have to wait till 2015 to see if he is any good.

I think it's great that Melbourne have got Clark, very excited about the inclusion I just hope our young maybe dumb at times midfield don't kick it to him all the time. Over the last 2 years Jack Watts has been putting himself in good positions to get some easy ball but too many times wasn't used and we just used the bail out kick which was usually on Jurrah or Greens head. This could have been because our structure. At least i hope so.

Not being negative at all and I hope people understand where I'm coming from, I'm just saying we can't become a one trick pony now because we have potentially one of the most potent forward lines coming through.. We have the backline and forwards now. With the amount of young mids we have on the list I'm sure we have the midfield too we just need to get the combinations right.

What many of the media numbskulls can't get through their heads is that the $600 grand plus a year (if that's accurate) we're paying for him is money spent not only on the player, but also on a much needed marketing and morale boost for the club.

Just too difficult for most of them to understand.

im excited, but am trying desperately to put a lid on it as i don't want to be disappointed next year like i was this year. But goddamn i am happy we got him.

He doesn't need to kick us 6 goals a game, he just needs to make a contest and help our forward structure.

The fact that he is turning 24 soon means potentially he could be with us longer then the 4 years contracted and also means that he is only going to improve as a player and grow stronger physically.

its an outstanding result.

2012 post season - Viney Arrives / 3 first round picks in a great draft/ room in Salary cap to accomodate / compete with free agency

Honestly, you cannot be more excited..

It's nice to see an 18 page thread that is positive unlike the last one. Just a question and forgive me if it's on one of these pages. I'm not reading all of them.

Did I hear right that Schwab, Neeld and Beamer went to Clark and spoke to him on why he should come to Melbourne. I just thought it was interesting that Beamer went and not our captain. I know Beamer barracked for the club as a kid and loves it and gives the new ones a book on the history of the club but I just thought it was interesting our captain didn't go.

Rawlings? Haven't heard anything of Beamer and would severely doubt he was involved.

I'm just rapped the likes of Harrington and Neeld were able to persuade clark to come acroos to the club AND get him for pick 12 - Bargain. The club deserves congratulations on the landing a big fish like this and makes a statement to the league that we are pressing forward in a big way. Was worried at first when the club signalled desire to land one of the 17yr olds and came up short, but adding Clark is a great move for the structure of the team. And we can still be a massive player in next years Trade/Free agency period as still only at 92% of cap!! well done

BLOODY AWESOME get by the demons for many reasons.

However the main reason I'm stoked is this...

Mark Neeld clearly has a a specific game plan and style he wants to implement. He knows we have many holes on our list and many roles he needs to be fulfilled but doesn't have the cattle at this point in time necessarily.

Clearly Neeld told the board that to implement his game plan, he needs a big target, both structurally AND to allow his to use Jurrah and Watts in the positions he thinks will most benefit the team.

We have now got this big target and in doing so have given Neeld the best opportunity possible to succeed as a coach.

I agree with the master.

I think it has been highlighted, but Neeld's pursuit of Clarke should and has been awarded with a good strong tall to add to our lineup next year.

The thing I like most about Clarke is unlike the thicker, bigger forward types (e.g. Dawes) he has pace and flexibility and can move to play in different positions around the ground if he is not finding the ball or having a bad day down forward. He uses the ball well and is clever much like Watts. He will allow Jack to move up the ground and get involved in the play which is where I think he is most effective (then drifts back every now and then). To have two of these sorts of tall running marking options makes me really excited about next year.

This has probably already been said but I mainly wanted to sign up just to say WELCOME MITCH CLARK!

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
