Seriously, Ward may become a good player, and I like the way he goes about it, but how many 30 possession games has he had this season?

How many matches has he had a decisive influence in?

I know Scully hasn't done much more, but he almost beat the bulldogs with his run last year in amassing 40 touches.

He's had less years in the system, is less physically developed and been held back by more injuries.

And the pick they were taken at, is just the icing on the cake.

I seriously believe Scully is worth 2 first round picks.

Ward worth a 1st round pick, or maybe, at most 1 pick in the 1st round, and 1 pick in the 2nd round.

If we get less for Scully, that AFL may find strange ticking packages arriving in the mail at AFL HQ...

I agree ,Scully should be worth heaps more than Ward but you are under-rating Ward. He has been sensational this year. But scully is basically Ward with better vision and better pace. i dont really care what we get though because losing Scully will be the biggest loss in melbourne football clubs history. People saying he isn't that good or wont be that good are blind freddy. He was injury riddled this year but he is on par to be the best midfielder in the game in 2 years time.

I simply cannot fathom that the Bulldogs are demanding 2 first round draft picks for Callan Ward and that we are likely to receive similar compensation for Scully (if he leaves).

I understand that Ward is a better player than Scully to date, but how can you compare a guy who was pick 19 and has had time to develop his body and prove himself to a guy that was pick number 1 just two years ago and has played just 30 games?

Surely the compensation given out by the AFL has to be significantly greater for Scully than Ward...2 mid ranged first round picks is an absolute joke!

They are obviously asking for to much, but if they push this shite up the hill they may get something on the other side.... i.e. 1st and 2nd round pick... they wont get ablett type compo we will get 2 first rounders if we are lucky in the event Scully leaves,

Callan will be a 10 year player... blah blah is just an act to get value, dont take it as true value, thast more than what they would get on the open market for him

Do you think they'd bother with the charade..?

Please to forgive ifn these matters have been hitherto mentioned :

but

1. Bearing in mind that the relationship between player managers and their clients is extremely similar to but not identical in all respects to that between pimps and their coterie:

is it not a consideration that there is a vested interest in these PMs driving those under their tutelage in the direction of the highest deal (based on said PM deriving their stipend as a % of the overall deal ( unless we accept the proposition that PMs are prepared to forego a higher remuneration level in order to get feel-good sensation as they go to sleep at night as they contemplate the greater good for their client even though it may delay their eventual retirement and they overcome their memories of how Ricky Nixon's business evaporated due to excesses of which the current group of player managers is no doubt incapable - which is of course precisely the position I adopt )

2. What the hell use are compensatory draft-picks when we might train up other players who will in turn be poached by the worser bad as may be currently unfolding ?

I can answer question one by saying that I would not be at all surprised to learn that upon receiving GW$' monstrous offer for Tom his manager rolled it up and used it as some sort of crude masturbatory device.

I think that's where the 'feel-good sensation' part of your question comes into play.

I'm going to try and reproduce what I think such a contract might be like and put I t to the purpose you suggest

Will report back in due course

It's good to see they're selling GWS as if it was a used car.

Sheedy said he was not aware of any signings.

But he did urge anyone, including players, to visit the Giants' facilities.

"We welcome all the AFL plumbers to come and check out Skoda Stadium ... and see where we are at Blacktown," he said.

Skoda Stadium indeed!

When the lad checks out Skoda Stadium and compares it to the MCG, what decision can he really make if he wants to put his total career above all else including the almight dollar?

Sorry to have taken so long but after putting myself in the position of a player-manager I felt I had to have a shower and scrub and scrub and scrub .......

but before I did I do believe for a brief moment I was able to experience for a brief moment what it might be like to be Kevin Sheedy

Ahhh crap. I'd resigned myself to accepting he'd go, so that I wouldn't be disappointed if he did. But the longer this drags out I find myself nurturing a tiny spark of hope....

Enjoying this farcical process playing out to the band of 'GWS please give us publicity'.

Considering facilities now how astute T. Scully is in fact I can think of only one process.

That resembles the joke that was orchestrated by one C. Judd.

Go now go away, slip into obscurity playing in the back blocks of Sydney.

Enjoy the money.

A club beholden to a second year player what a joke.

Posted

He really should do the right thing now and visit all the A.F.L clubs facilities and then tick each club off one by one through the media.

Posted

Seriously he needs to visit their facilities to make this decision. Could this become any more of a farce?

Posted

It could go both ways now..

1) His manager may have noticed the damage he has caused to Tom's reputation and needs him to visit GWS to make it look like he hasn't made his mind up and actually considering both options.

2) We take him on his word, and he wants to make the most informed decision to weigh up 6 million for 6 years and live in a [censored] hole, play on a suburban ground and possibly end up in hospital after Moloney runs through him or 3 Million for 5 years, play on the mighty G and avoid the whole 'Moloney' situation.

Posted

Don't forget Tom has an injury that will need on going management, he has every right to visit and ensure that the facilities will be AFL standard.

Tom if you are about money I can save you an airfare, taxi or parking at the airport and going then sitting in a car for another hour and a half. I suggest you go visit your Mum and when you have finished drop into Casey Fields, the facilities at Casey will be the same as GWS. Then come back into town drop past the MFC boardroom take a good look at the MCG because if you go to GWS you will be lucky to play one game per year there in front of 19,000 people, then go back to Casey again imagine 800 people watching a Casey game at that will be a home game for GWS.

Anyway I'm happy with what ever is the outcome, would love to keep Tom but I will be happy if we get two first round picks that we may be able to use to target needed players over the next 3 years or use to get one of the 17yo on offer this year I'm sure GWS would be interested in Bate or Warnock plus one of these picks.

Posted

Did anyone notice how we the ante has just been upped ?

Whilst there were brief mentions of 6 years, the standard for the last couple of months has been $5m over five year from GWS.

Somehow we have just accepted that there has now been an extra "mill" and a year slipped in without batting an eyelid. Extraordinary !

Or maybe someone with $ signs in their eyes knows he is leaning towards MFC and is trying to lean him back towards GWS with a last ditch effort

The Sydney visit? God this is becoming such a charade. I know he is a focused young man, but to give out the impression that he was blocked his ears all year to this and Is starting the process now is just too unbelievable. I love the kid but "i DONT believe tom".

maybe hes going up there too make announcement? maybe hes already told the melbourne boys hes gone??

If the Melbourne boys knew, then we would know.. People let this stuff slip, especially when one of their own abandons them.

The delay and facility tour (if true) sounds more like a poor attempt at giving his story of "I will decide after the season" more credibility.

I think that says he's leaning towards staying.

Think about it - if he's sold on GWS, he'd just decide to go.

No need to see the facilities, just go.

If he were leaning away from staying, MFC would never say "go and check out their facilities, and you'll see you should stay."

It's more a case of "come see our facilities at GWS, maybe that'll convince you?"

Or his management has said "at least go and see their facilities first, before turning it down. You owe yourself at least that much."

That's not to say this trip won't convince him to go.

I just think he wouldn't need to see it if he were already convinced.

I truly think he has enough integrity to have come out and told the club, and playing group, if he'd already decided.

GWS will be sweating bullets on his decision more than MFC - it hurts GWS a lot more if he doesn't sign with them, because they get no compensation.

Who's next cab off the rank to give that sort of money to?

Calen Morton?

(in fact, a bit of posturing may get Scully another $100K. God knows they can afford it, and at this stage they can't afford to let him say no.)

No way, disagree. If Tom was in any doubt about going to GWS his "visit" would have been conducted incognito (maybe he has been there already?). Imagine the embarrassment of the AFL & GWS if Tom goes up there with the media in tow and then says "thanks, but no thanks" It is an exercise to appease supporters that he has done his due diligence and carried the making of the "decision" to the very end.

This is a stage managed exercise building up to his signing. Anyone who believes otherwise is just being sucked in IMO.

As part 2 of the exercise you can expect expressions of much regret about leaving the MFC and his team mates, but the $$$ offer and chance to start a new pioneering franchise being just too good.

I almost feel like vomiting just thinking about it.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
