Is it so hard to believe that he told his manager not to bring him any contracts until his season was over and that they would talk about it then?

Yes! Because journalists would never stake their reputations on anything unless they were 100% sure it was fact, Steve Silvagni stammered that they offered him a contract in October while nervously glancing around the room, and Tom Scully is a big fat liar liar, pants on fire who kicks like Simon Godfrey and has a shonky knee and we're better off without him.

There! In two posts, you and I have just covered about 4 huge threads in two posts. High five.

Awesome! Can we all stop talking about it until an announcement is made?

The White Maggot can exclusively reveal that the hip flexor injury which kept Tom Scully out of the Demons loss to Port Adelaide yesterday, was caused by the midfield-ace carrying a large cash advance he received from Greater Western Sydney.

Hah, classic. All that cash really is going to have a limiting effect on his career if the white maggot is right on this one.

Melbournes offer wouldn't place as much strain on that hip flexor or his bung knee.

Trust me if the club knew everyone would. AFL clubs the info gets out very quickly.

The club knows and the info's out.... GONE

Relax everyone Tom Scully will unfortunately sign with the Demons by the end of this week.

I'd rather save the cash we will be giving to Scully and take the 2 first round picks.

On an unrelated note, why is it that nobody is ever just "gone", they're always "GONE"?

Posted (edited)

Even if he does GO, he will be back playing in Vic soon enough after the failed enterprise that will be GWS.

I honestly can't see this outfit getting a following strong enough to support a long term. Anyway, don't want to get off track.

The last two posts just about sum this up; he's definitely gone; he's definitely staying.

Part of me wants Scully to stay and part wants him to go.

It would show he has confidence in us but I'm not sure I have confidence in him and his injury concerns.

no he did not ..!

IN REGARDS TO COMPENSATION PICKS;

JD; asked LYNCH ( WITH A DRY DEAD PAN LOOK ) what would melb. chase for tom scully..

LYNCH quickly replied ah, they will be chasing his signature i would have thought..!

( nervous small smile back ),-SO THEY'LL WAIT TILL THE END OF THE WEEK & just ah see. ( they being melb.. i take it as ? )

BRAD SCOTT jumps in with a wry smile & comments- " end of the week ?" so we got an announcement at the end of the week have we.??

LYNCH answers, " ah well u got to give him some time to make his decision..

JD LAUGHS back & belts out "OOH" he's just put his foot in it SCOTTY..

make of it ???

I simply cannot fathom that the Bulldogs are demanding 2 first round draft picks for Callan Ward and that we are likely to receive similar compensation for Scully (if he leaves).

I understand that Ward is a better player than Scully to date, but how can you compare a guy who was pick 19 and has had time to develop his body and prove himself to a guy that was pick number 1 just two years ago and has played just 30 games?

Surely the compensation given out by the AFL has to be significantly greater for Scully than Ward...2 mid ranged first round picks is an absolute joke!

Seriously, Ward may become a good player, and I like the way he goes about it, but how many 30 possession games has he had this season?

How many matches has he had a decisive influence in?

I know Scully hasn't done much more, but he almost beat the bulldogs with his run last year in amassing 40 touches.

He's had less years in the system, is less physically developed and been held back by more injuries.

And the pick they were taken at, is just the icing on the cake.

I seriously believe Scully is worth 2 first round picks.

Ward worth a 1st round pick, or maybe, at most 1 pick in the 1st round, and 1 pick in the 2nd round.

If we get less for Scully, that AFL may find strange ticking packages arriving in the mail at AFL HQ...

I remember Port offered us picks 8 & 9 for pick 2 (which was obviously going to be Trengove) before the draft was held

i think that says it all.. pick 1 in the draft is easily worth to mid first round picks

Great. We would have had Andrew Moore and John Butcher. Give me Trenners any day.

Yeah, but if we finish 2nd last, those compo picks could be worth pick 3 & 4.

Not that it'll happen.

I think that says he's leaning towards staying.

Think about it - if he's sold on GWS, he'd just decide to go.

No need to see the facilities, just go.

If he were leaning away from staying, MFC would never say "go and check out their facilities, and you'll see you should stay."

It's more a case of "come see our facilities at GWS, maybe that'll convince you?"

Or his management has said "at least go and see their facilities first, before turning it down. You owe yourself at least that much."

That's not to say this trip won't convince him to go.

I just think he wouldn't need to see it if he were already convinced.

I truly think he has enough integrity to have come out and told the club, and playing group, if he'd already decided.

GWS will be sweating bullets on his decision more than MFC - it hurts GWS a lot more if he doesn't sign with them, because they get no compensation.

Who's next cab off the rank to give that sort of money to?

Calen Morton?

(in fact, a bit of posturing may get Scully another $100K. God knows they can afford it, and at this stage they can't afford to let him say no.)

To be honest the article doesn't say anything. Not that i particularly care which way this turns out, but all the article says is... they interviewed sheedy, he said "i like the name Tom." and he is just as glib and fake cryptic as he has been all year.

It also has no solid evidence that he's even going to visit GWS. It's just Scully is "expected to visit" because he doesn't have to be in Melbourne... so just because I'm on holidays i have to leave the state?

It's quite a strange article.

Posted (edited)

doesn't sound good. However, I always read these articles taking into account the journalist involved i.e stick to credible journos and not the unreliably stupid e.g Mark Robinson or John Ralph or Barrett or Hutchy writing this?

In this case it's the first two. The worry now of course is every hack journo and others are saying it's a case of Scully gone. so maybe hey are all right ?!?!

funnily enough can see this a case of laughing at hack journos calling he is gone like we are, then having to accept they are right !!

Sheedy's lost the plot now.

His father was Tom

His coach was Tom

Come up to Sydney to check out our facilites?

In ten years you wont regret it .(in ten years)

Give me a break.

Robbo and Ralph must write this stuff after a big lunch .

Tom can always go there after he plays in three flags with us .

Then when he has no knee cartlidge he can move up to Sheeds who wont know how to make a cup of tea by then .

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
