Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Who hasn't been linked to coaching the dees? Everyday it is someone new. Wouldn't be surprised if a two week old hot dog and sauce was linked to coaching the dees in tomorrows HUN.

With a mother who is simply mad Saints I've endured three Grand Finals sitting alongside her in the past 3 years. The Saints v Cats and first Saints v Pies games were absolutely ripping football contests; I could only sit back and admire both teams. Give me this as a memory of the year any day of the week.

We've been soft for 10 years; St Kilda aren't soft for 10 minutes in any given week - they were years ago but Thomas cleaned this up and Lyon crushed it. Blokes like Goddard and Dal Santo are a pleasure to watch play footy - somehow Lyon gets a Saints team delivering week in week out when it has Eddy, Blake, Kosi, Clarke, McQualter, Polo, Ray......hardly 'pretty' footballers.

Happy to have Lyon anyday; or any other coach with some genuince ticker who makes a few of our boys shite scared over a pre season. I reckon I'd still enjoy watching Blease, Watts and Trengove develop under Lyon.

If this club wants to not only just survive but flourish in the future it cannot afford to have Ross Lyon as coach .

This club needs to be exciting to attract new supporters , members and sponsors and Ross lyons brand of footy will NOT do that .

He will have supporters switching off our games in droves , much like I probably will .

There is no way I could handle watching the Bloods code/Aints footy played by our club , a mind numbing style which has been a blight on the game .

THIS CLUB NEEDS TO WIN GAMES OF FOOTBALL.

Beggars can't be choosers, and even though we may not all love the super defensive game plan of St Kilda, it got them to three more grand final appearances than our super free flowing 'get your arse kicked weekly' game plan has.

I'm getting old. I want success and I don't care if it's Ross Lyon or Diana Ross at the helm.

If we start winning games and playing consistently then the rest will follow. Its not the coaches job to 'sell' the club via a gameplan thats exciting, Matthew Knights took that approach and look where that left the bombers and himself after 3 years. Leave it up to the club administration to deal with attracting supporters and sponsors. Besides, landing a proven coach like Lyon would likely be attractive and I wouldn't expect R Lyon to try transplant the same dour gameplan onto a very different list.

Jack, all for winning and greater attention to defence. However I go to the football to be entertained and "Saints Footy" is not something that will draw me there every week. This is not to say that "Dee's Footy" would be a copy of "Saints Footy" but if it was I would not be that enthused to watch us.

I agree brfe.

I reckon open, free-flowing footy is boring anyway. I'd rather see lots of contested footy. The more tackling and smothering etc., the better the spectacle IMO.

Yep, give me the good old 'one on one' style any day. Free flowing footy is more akin to soccer and basketball. I'm not getting excited but Lyon could be the answer. Malthouse would be the perfect fit. We need a tough, bastard coach.

What is it about 3 GF's in 2 years that you don't like? Didn't seem to adversely impact on the supporter base. The first 2 GF's for the Saints in 09/10 had a total (effective) losing margin of 7 points (forget Rooke's junk-time kick after the siren). Our only 2 efforts over 47 years gave us a combined margin of 156 points.

However, Malthouse still the priority........

If Ross Lyon was to apply for the job and present the same game plan etc to the 'panel' then he wouldn't be real serious would he? It might have got three GF appearances but ultimately resulted in three 2nd places.

I still think Eade is a better fit for Melbourne but Ross Lyon would be a very good candidate also.

60 seconds or 60 minutes... Does it matter? Still 2nd place BB.

Rocket took the Dogs to three PF's during his tenure so the gap between the two really isn't that great...

All I was saying is that personally I consider Eade to be a better fit for Melbourne.

I fully understand your sentiments there KIL and as you have an opinion on Eade thats fine. Mine is that hecan coach but hasnt got anyone over the line. In fact id suggest hes got no one TO the line. Lyon has. Id respectfully suggest a near miss rates higher than no -shows .

Im not sure in what manner Eade is a better fit. How is this fit adjudicated ? Both Coaches will do well from moving on. Both have in all likelyhood exhausted the potential of their repsective lists and both clubs ( Dogs and Saints ) are due a sizable list rebuild.

Malthouse has evolved into a very accomplished senior coach., emphasis on senior as its very much his entourage of assistants that are doing the harder yards. Micky is more like the icing. Possibly with a club such as Collingwood and their progress along their journey they are a good fit for such a set up. Im not sure we are, just yet. If a house then we're at lock up but stil lneed a serious fit out before we go on show ( in finals). We need a craftsman builder who can take the raw product and refine it into a real looker. I think Lyon might just be this type of guy.

Id be happoy with him whilst id have my reservations about Eade. Its just my opinion. We wont get Malthouse nor Clarkson but no harm in trying. It struck me as odd that during recent interviewing Lyon ( Ross) didnt dismiss the idea of Melbourne at all. He was duly very circumvent about it but he could have easily quashed it on the spot; he didnt. Somewhat strange I thought.

Theres an air of desperation about Eade that Im not 100%V comfortable with. He'll probably go to Adelaide and after 3 years of he'll wish he hadnt. Funny lot South Australians ( except the Melbourne following ones !! lol ) .

Lyon strikes me as more composed, but just as menacing, not to be trifled with. A lot of our list ( unfortunately ) could use some stern direction and no mucking about 'coaching'

Interesting times :)

Good point. I find winning premierships pretty exciting. So do sponsors.

Now THIS is exactly what I have been thinking is our problem, but I didn't think it'd be likely that we'd find anyone to do it:

http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/hes-dee-man-20110823-1j8it.html

Walls, Carlton's 1987 premiership coach, said Lyon would provide the Demons with more than just on-field tactical nous, declaring he had the conviction to also overhaul a football department that had experienced friction this season. ''One of the strengths of Ross is that he has been in a really good program at Sydney and he has come to St Kilda and made changes there,'' he said.

''He is not a coach that just coaches a team, I believe he is a coach that coaches the club. If ever a football club needed a coach that was to come in and say, 'This, this and this needs to be done', and you need to be pushed out or change your ways, he is strong enough to do that.''

I think there's a pretty obvious difference between continually loosing prelims and getting close in GFs. Common sense really. Wouldn't touch Eade with a ten foot pole.

Eade Is the ultimate development Coach! He would be excellent for 2 Years!

BUT beyond that We'll need a topline finishing Coach to take Us over the line.

These people who wouldn't take Ross Lyon for "aesthetic" reasons crack me up. Like we're really one to look down our noses!

A winning team looks better than a losing team every day of the week. Our club will not survive if we keep getting demolished by the better teams and losing to mid-tier teams that's for damn sure. Would you rather "look good" (i.e. play loose, unaccountable, soft and lazy football) and win 6-8 games per year (only at the 'G of course) or "play boring" (i.e. play tough, defensive, accountable, team oriented football) and be thereabouts in the flag stakes (playing competitive football & a chance for the 4 points anywhere we play)?

Although it seems like a rhetorical question, amazingly some people would appear to choose the former.

Anyone ever questions what is wrong with the "culture" at the MFC, that is it there in a nutshell.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
