Schwab in the gun

Recommended Posts

I am amazed that after a 186 point belting it is the fault of the CEO.

Why is Schwab getting the bullet?

Last time I looked he was not on the coaching panel or the playing sheet yesterday.

What the hell is going on.

After 50 years of supporting the demons I am considering running up the white flag.

This may be the end for me.

There are after all more things in life than a football club.

Again what the hell is going on?

Complete knee jerk reaction and it's not going to help our future.

Schwab is a great guy who loves the club.

It's too easy to forget that he saved the club in 2008.

Can anyone answer me what Schwab has done wrong? I don't understand isn't it his job to run the off field side of the club and by the looks of it he has hit his targets? Would love some insight to what is apparently going on?

I have to admit, this is how I'm feeling right now.

If there was a problem with Schwab, and I'm not ruling out that possibility, why has it taken a pathetic on-field performance to trigger his potential sacking? What is it about this week's game that changed things?

The link between the game and Bailey, for example, is far, far clearer than with Schwab. Moreover, I still feel that Schwab did plenty of good for this club when he was brought back by Stynes.

Again, I'm not saying there's nothing wrong, there may well be plenty wrong. But I'm not sure why it's coming to a head now, and if it's been precipitated by the game yesterday, the phrase 'knee jerk' comes straight to mind.

Good points old dee.

Yesterday,we did have a reasonable group of players out there, allowing for inexperience etc., but it was the coaching panel who were in charge - not the CEO or any other admin staff - the bottomline is that there was very little evidence of tactics etc (and yes, I was there).

The changes being considered are not just based on yesterday. The debacle is the lightening rod for action on issues that have been simmering for some months since Stynes announced that he was taken over the FD. They would have happened by year end but events have brought them to fore.

The media has reported Schwab, Connolly and Bailey are in jeopardy. Time will bring things out.

it's far from a knee jerk reaction... it seems there were issues this week before the game with Schwab, it's obviously had an impact on the team because we all saw the way they played...

yes, Schwab did a good job getting us organised, but there's obviously problems there, and it would seem he's taken us as far as he can take us... no doubt he loves the club, no doubt... but that's not enough, and if the players hate him which is the story that's being told, then he's gotta go... simple as that...

But if the players aren't playing for the jumper, yet alone the coach and have no faith in the club in general then the CEO can be blamed. Especially if he has been meddling with the football department and undermining the coach.

I think Bailey has to go because he simply isn't up to it and similarly so do his assistants (not all but at least some). That is reality.

One thing I gather though is that if Schwab goes then Connolly must have a very good answer as to why he won't be going with him.

I bet there are plenty of great guys and gals on Demonland who love the Club, but it doesn't mean they should be CEO and that also goes for Schwab.

Complete knee jerk reaction

There have been rumours about CS for months.

I'm a bit taken aback by all the support for Schwab.

Unless you're involved with the club or are in the inner sanctum, how do you know if he's any good?

The same goes for most admin/Board roles, doesn't it?

It does worry me that our operations department is bigger than our footy department, that after being so vocal and proactive, both he and Connolly have gone quiet.

I'm pretty sure it was reported at the start of the year that DB approached the Board - and admin? - and said it was time to put the focus on the on-field stuff, which would explain why we've heard less from CC and CS.

Jim Stynes wouldn't have taken over as head of the footy department if something wasn't wrong. It's unheard of, and frankly pathetic, that a president has to get involved in the running of the footy department. I don't care that he's a former player with footy knowledge, it's not his job. He appointed these guys to look after the daily running of these departments and they have obviously failed him.

For what it's worth, most - all? - Clubs have a Director specfically involved with the footy department. If I remember correctly Leoncelli was doing the role for us, but he left recently.

Bruce just announced on Ch. 7 that Stynes and McLardy just left Stynes' house to go to the MFC board meeting to discuss the future of Bailey, Schwab and Connolly...

Yeah but not the president, and especially a president who is a bit busy with other stuff, like his charity organisation and you know, cancer.

I want the board to say something tomorrow morning at the latest - even if they have nothing to say.

Here we go again - I am sure the board will have their reasons for doing whatever it is we are about to do, but can we please do this without fracturing the club again.

Everyone's heart is in the right place.

Let's do this right.

Exactly....do not swing the axe too quickly or too deep....Talk to everyone first, get their side of the situation and then weigh it all up.

If this club fractures again i fear it will not survive.

Dig in cobber. Positive is things can only go up from here. But hear what you're saying. Club need to be decisive and transparent otherwise longtime supporters like yourself will be lost which is the real tragedy in all this.

Look I love the club but why are we always the basket case?

Can't attract players. Starting to look like we are going to struggle to keep players.

It's time for Lyon to take the club by the scruff of the neck like he used to in his playing days and help Jimmy out. Also what's Neita doing? We need strong leaders that love the club to make a stand and symbolize what our club stands for because I'm starting to forget what we stand for besides the fact we are the oldest club. Whoopty F@&KING do.

So typical of the Melbourne Footy club, looks like the CEO who has helped bring the club back from the brink will be sacked due to pissy little infighting. Meanwhile it will be business as usual for the spuds who have had a free ride during the last decade.

reeks of the Daniher era...

This players v admin. thing goes back to Jmac getting the flick last year.Brad Green & Cameron the Bruce were seething and obviously the rest of the playing group.Jmac is now working for the Giants and has he been talking to Scully about this is the way Melbourne treat their Captains/players?

Chris Connolly had a big role in the way the Jmac departure was handled,i'd be surprised if he doesn't go too.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
