Glen [censored] Maxwell. How absolutely un- [censored] - believable!!!
It might be nearly 4am but I wouldn’t have missed this innings for the world.

They are calling it one of the best innings ever in cricket and I missed it.

There must be a replay on Fox to watch.

You can watch a good highlights package on YouTube. I tuned out when we were 7 down. Came here to post and read Neil Compton's post and then the highlights.

Has to be the best innings ever.

I also gave up on the match. 😭Spewing I did because seeing it live would’ve been quite something else. Highlights and replays just aren’t the same.

First unbeaten double-century scored in the second innings of an ODI, not just a World Cup match, but in all ODIs. And first time ever by a batsman who wasn’t an opener. And it’s not like he came in at first drop… he was #6!

The poor bugger was cramping so badly he could  barely walk. At one point, while cramping in both legs he had a sudden spasm in his back which dropped him. He was gonna have to retire hurt but he pushed through the pain and refused to quit. Inspirational stuff right there.

Not to mention his unbeaten 201 was off 128 balls! 10 sixes and 21 fours. What a phenomenal innings.

Maxi is absolutely incredible. So happy and proud he’s ours.

Arguably THE best innings in an ODI ever. I stopped watching when Marnus got out because at 5 for 69 who’d-a-thunk?!?!

His best shot was a reverse sweep, around the stumps rising into the air,  over first slip, over third man and went deep into the crowd for six.  It was at a critical time when he couldn't move, they hadn't scored much for a few overs and time appeared to be running out.

If he hadn't hit so many great shots it could be thought a fluke.  It was no fluke!!

I don't know how to post videos but follow this link:

About the same here. I think I lasted until Starc was out.

Came on here to vent and saw Ncs post about Maxwell. Wth.

Probably the Best knock in any format .

Great support from Captain Cummings.

But Maxwell on one leg just standing there and swatting  them over the fence was sublime.

The guy had bowled ten overs in 40 degree heat and then comes out and makes a double century. All after a week of concussion.

SA and India fans must be sweating now.

The less talked about part of the innings was that Cummins scored only 12 runs in a 202 partnership.  Now scoring only 12 takes some doing!!

The way Maxwell was able to keep the strike was quite special.  Somehow the Afghanis set fields that left him time to stroll through for singles even tho towards the end he couldn't even walk.

He was in The Zone and the AFghans seemed mesmerised.

I think the Indian crowd was mostly pro Afghanistan. But you could hear and see their allegiance change as Maxy went about his business. He was cheered on in the end. And why wouldn't they.

Sounds like you really enjoyed it as well LH.

Before anyone says it was only Afghanistan, it should be said they have some very good players. The fact that every other Aussie batsman failed is proof of their bowling prowess. It's true that Afghanistan's bowlers were loose at times but that was simply down to the pressure of Maxy smacking them all over the ground. Seeing him stand there on one leg was as #WcW mentioned , inspiring.

Forget Bazball.

Not sure their allegiance changed to the Aussies.  More that they knew they were witnessing a once in a lifetime cricket event and loved it.  It was the stuff they will grand kids about in years to come.

I saw just the last 45 minutes but it was great to see.

Agree, saying 'it was only Afghanistan' does not do justice to either side.  Maxwell took his chances, Afghanistan did not.  As Demon fans we know how quickly a game can slip away when that happens.

I bet you were on the way home during the comeback against Fremantle, too.

Wait... no, It's WCW I'm talking to. You were probably so close to the action Woneaemirri's sweat splashed on you when he did his celebration jump.

Nah, that was back when I attended matches on my own and was nowhere near the action. I admit that I did used to leave matches early when a loss was highly likely. Can’t do that anymore. Now I’m there long after a match, usually right up until security kicks us out. Especially after a close or unexpected win.

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form
