Since the day we drafted this exceptional young guy he has become one of my favourite young players. He is growing not only as a player but as a leader on and off the field. Just watched him interviewed on fox sports pre game just now and he speaks so well and appears to have all the makings of a future captain.

1. He doesn't appear to have any weakness on the ground

2. He speaks exceptionally well in the media and has a personality

3. Is passionate and committed to the MFC

4. Was junior captain of SA

We Havnt had an inspirational leader since neitz nor have we had any clear standouts although I was on the brad miller, Brock mcclean and jack grimmes band wagons of recent times all of those guys showed glimses. Jack trengove in my mind is a clear stand out maybe when he signs his next 4 year contract he can take on the top job!

NOOOOOOOOOO!

Do not invoke the curse of Miller/Mclean/Grimes!

Gradually the severity of the divine retribution is diminishing, as we learn to contain our 'next captain' idolatry. But we must remain ever vigilant.

Though, on all things considered, Jack Trengove does look a likely type.

Also, I'd call James McDonald inspirational, but I presume you're talking about the 'turn the momentum of a whole game' kind of inspirational, so won't start a bun-fight there. ;)

That tackle he laid on Cotchin (?) just seconds after being on the ground with severe cramp, late in the game with the match still in the balance was nothing short of inspirational. Jack, you are a superstar.

Agree that Jack and Jack G are the future leaders of our Club. Sculls is too intent on his own game (which is not a bad thing) but Jack T is such an allrounder (in the mould of James Mcd) but a better player. I can't wait for the next couple of years.

Trengove - magnificent.

Grimes - great.

Sylvia - Captain. Has some C-Bomb in him. Would have respect from the playing group. The hard nut we need to lead the team.

Agree. From what I have seen on the field and in the media, Trenners has leader written all over him.

maloney i reckon. has the same said c bomb, hardness and passion. A melbourne supporter as a kid and young enough to take our young side through for the next 5 + years.

All the chatter about one of our players who might leave ( I forget which one )- you'd be tempted to say Trengove is as important a contributor as anyone else.

Tries hard and gets the job done.

He would be entitled to be a little arrogant and conceited and shows absolutely zero sign of these character defects.

I'm on the bandwagon

Yep great team game today but I'm sticking with jack as a stand out captain

Agree completely with the OP. I love Grimes, but for some reason he can't seem to stay on the park, which IMO isn't much good for a captain. Jack is just a stellar kid who would really make me feel proud to look to as captain, and I am sure the same could be said for the playing group.

Agree with the OP, reminds me of Todd Viney with better disposal, but I think Watts is up there as well. Two great candidates.

Grimes, Trengove, Watts. Don't rush it. A year or so ago the Ox and Leach were talking of a Jones over McLean for captain. Life changes to quickly to rush a young player in to soon. Let the best captainemerge in time.

Brilliant piece of play...will be shown to the whole group i hope on monday....Plays like that win CUPS in the long term.

I haven't been this excited to get along to the footy since Robbie played.

The kid is a gem.Have spruiked his worth since draft day.The most important player for MFC'S 13th flag.We need to retain this kid as a MFC only player/captain.

Love Sylvia, one of my favorite players but he'll never be a captain. Misdemeanors as a young player will have tarnished him and while he has improved dramatically as a player, glimpses of his former self do occassionaly pop-up. Just can't see him as a captain.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
