This week is a massive week for us, we NEED this win if we want to sneak into the 8 at the end of the year.

Outs: Bennell/Strauss - Gawn

Ins: Jamar - Tapscott

FB: Garland - Frawley - Bartram

HB: Nicholson - Rivers - J Mac

C: Scully - Jones - Trengove

HF: Sylvia - Howe - Petterd

FF: Jurrah - Watts - Green

R: The big rush!!!!!! - Moloney - McKenzie

I: Martin - Tapscott - Morton

S: Strauss/Bennell

Nicholson has the pace to go with Nahas

Frawley NEEDS to shut down Jack

Rivers should handle Vickery

Garland will be all over Miller

McKenzie to shut down Cotch

Petterd to play a defensive role on Deledio

Who plays on Martin? J-Mac?

Nope, Bartam - Hard Tag... show him what tough means Barty

Miller will probably bag 8 .

Both Bartram & JMcDonald made disposal errors and Dicision errors in the 2nr & 3rd Qtrs. BUT, they both played very good games, and IMO our defence helped to starve the Dockers, & players like McKenzie just helped to strangle their supply. They just couldn't get any real attacking moves going through the middle & any supply was slow coming.

Don't think bartram and jmc were in the same stratosphere in relation to errors against the shockers. Bartram was cringeworthy - most times he got the ball my head was in my hands hoping he would not turnover yet again. Jmac was actually quite clean with his disposal. For me Bennell takes Nahas, has the speed to go with him and his skills just better than clint b.

Blease to debut.

Ins: jamar, blease

Outs: gawn, bartram

Tappy back through casey first.

Ah god some of the drivel getting posted this week! Were we watching the same game!?!

BARTRAM - turned it over like a pancake. OUT

WARNOCK - didn't play and shouldn't because he's a spud. STAYS OUT

MORTON - outclassed his opponent all day, set up play, kicked well, was hard at it, one of our best - STAYS IN

STRAUSS - had a crack, showing something - STAYS IN

JURRAH - another quiet day but always looks on the verge, too talented to play at Casey - STAYS IN

OK thats my rant over.

In summary:

IN Jamar, Tapscott, Gysberts

OUT: Bartram, Gawn, Bennell

Whilst I think Morton should stay in for this week because he more often than not does execute well. His disposal however a few times against Fremantle was nothing short of deplorable (Disposal efficiency was 64%). And it cost our team dearly with some clangers, and absolute doozies at that. He had 12 contested possessions which is pleasantly surprising on the positive side of things. Some of his possessions he just got away in time and good sides with heavy pressure would swallow him up most times in similar instances. Freo's lack of pressure was disgraceful.

For the rest of your post, two things (both a positive and a negative:

Agree with your ins (injuries, rehabilitation complete and 100% fit permitting), in particular Jamar and perhaps Gysberts. Unsure on Tapscott. Strauss was ok but not outstanding, so agree should stay in.

My highlighting of part of your post describing Morton I think requires you to re-watch his game. I didn't see him as one of our best. McKenzie, Martin, Watts, Howe, Scully, MacDonald, Green were clearly in the best.

Posted

Tapscott listed as 1 more week in todays injury update. Sounds unlikely that he will play.

I don't really see the need for Gysberts straight back in at this stage. I think just the one change (Jamar in, Gawn out) will do if everyone is fit.

I agree with Bartram on Dustin Martin, both when he's in the midfield and up forward. McKenzie to Cotchin, Petterd to play defensive forward on Deledio.

Wonder if the Gysbert's 'general soreness' omission is part of a rotational policy. Young body who throws himself around who could do with a week off.

They will not drop Bartram and if Garland comes up could see it being a "No changes" week or just one change - Gys in for Bennell

Mate. Totally fair rant. I agree with your summation of all players above. The only thing I am unsure of is bringing tappy straight back. I would give him a week at casey with reduced game time - we don't want him to ping a hammy againt tiges. Bennell stays to take small forward instead of bartram. So two changes with gys and jamar in and bartram/gawn out.

Anyone think they might debur blease this week - he is putting in some good games with casey apparantly.

Re Morton - on the other hand, his kick out on the full in the back pocket in the second quarter was very ordinary. I think what people are concerned about is that he has been there 4 years already and we are still talking about him arriving in due course. How long do you give someone to prove themselves?

Fortunately you were not involved in making decisions regarding Jamar's future at the club.

Jamar also wasn't a pick 4.

As it seems that Garland is okay (apparently) and Tapscott is not.......

FB Garland Frawley MacDonald

HB Morton Rivers Strauss

C Nicholson Jones Scully

HF Sylvia Watts Trengove

FF Green Martin Howe

R Jamar Moloney McKenzie

Int: Gysberts Petterd Jurrah

Sub: Gawn (yeah that's right)

Would love to see 3 bigs on the ground in the 4th Q. One at each end and one on the ball. Couldn't have less effect than Bennell did.

In: Jamar, Gysberts

Out: Bennell, Bartram (was okay Sunday but the ins are better)

Nicholson -> Nahas

Trangove -> Deledio

Yeah, we had no excuse to give that hack so much time!!

As a few posts above, Bartram won't be dropped. I sometimes think people round here don't watch the other teams enough - for starters, it's easy to have great disposal when you're surrounded by stars who are going to make you look like one as well, and for seconders, even the biggest names in the comp make mistakes. The backline has been a moveable feast all year, as has much of our team lineup - and when the players around Bartram start making life a bit easier for him disposal-wise, it'll become less of an issue. As a shut-down player, he's one of our best. It's a team sport, and what matters is that everyone fulfills their role.

As for team, either no change or Warnock in for Garland (if he doesn't come up). Warnock had (another) very good game at Casey, with 31 disposals, and would be expected to be next cab off the rank.

Hi All,

Is anyone else concerned that Russian may need some fitness prior to going straight into the ones. Was he able to keep running with a PCL?

Does anyone know what his workload may have been like since his injury?

Haha mate you should change your name to blind bambi cos you have no idea!

Bartram - Bailey will NOT drop him, you are dreaming

Warnock - While I agree he's not in our best 22, calling him a spud is just plain ignorant

Morton - Outclassed his opponent?! He just wandered around by himself on the wing staying clear of the contest

Strauss - I like him, but to bag out Bartrams disposal and not mention Strauss' shows your bias

Jurrah - Not working hard enough, will stay in but another week "on the verge" without more effort and he's back to Casey

You've also dropped Bartram for Gysberts there. Not sure why Blease deserves a game over Strauss, who has been serviceable since he came back, compared to Blease who hasn't found consistency at VFL level yet.

I'm also not sure why Petterd needs to do show something. He played a nice, neat game against Freo and I expect he'll have a defensive roll this week, that hopefully he can perform which is all he'll have to do.

Hi All,

Is anyone else concerned that Russian may need some fitness prior to going straight into the ones. Was he able to keep running with a PCL?

Does anyone know what his workload may have been like since his injury?

Russian will have kept himself pretty fit from my experience with this injury. Most exercise is possible, including swimming and bike and even training after 2-3 weeks. Just no sudden change of direction or contact for 3 weeks. Plus I think they have stated that they would like him to play predominantly in the forward line until he gets match fit. What a great situation to have Martin is such great form to be able to do this. After the North Melbourne game I reckon all Demon supporters were ready to chop their own leg off to give Jamar a new knee to get him back out there..

Posted

I also notice he has already pencilled (sp?) Warnock in if Garland pulls up lame at the end of the week.

I still like the idea of Gawn as sub. 3 bigs from half way through the 3rd Q. Nice.

I can smell a Warnock emergency coming on?!

OUT / IN:

Bennell / Gysberts

Gawn / Jamar

Garland (if inj.) / Tapscott (if ready - otherwise Gawn stays and Stef plays as a backman on Vickery)

Got a feeling Gysberts will be named sub, although I think with all the focus on other players, he could really shine in this game, going up against one of Richmond's lesser mids.

I'd go with Nicholson or Bartram as sub.

(Bartram really, with Nicholson on Nahas, but I just can't see the coaches doing it).

The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
