Less OTT celebration after winning – we still have some work to do but after the game we looked more like a team that expected to win.

Otherwise Flemo, I second yours.

I for one have been guilty of some negativity around here, but mainly frustration, but today was a bloody rippa and my positive for today was Maxy Gawns effort on the HFF that set up Trenners goal, inspirational stuff like that will lift our young Dee's to greater things in the not to distant future.

One positive per post, lets c how many we can get.

Jeremy Howe / Danial Nicholson / WATTS / SCULLY / Steph Martin / SYLVIA / McKenzie / JONES / TRENGOVE / McDonald / Petterd / ...

Some nice passages of ball movement & some reliable Footy and players.

should Tappscott be back next week??

I'd bring him back through Casey, his Hammy was very lowdown near the knee, so I'd be a bit more conservative with it. For mine a part game firstup just to let him loosen up. When he does come in, I think he'll be looking to replace either Strauss or Bartram, so I'd rather keep the defence as a solid Unit for the Tiges game.

After that against the Power in Darwin, I wouldn't mind him in.

I too was so impressed with big Max today. His palming of the ball was a delight and that tackle setting up Trengove's goal was superb. Pity he has to go if Jamar is fit but he'll get his turn in the years to come. An AA ruckman of the future IMHO.

Stef Martin is the one that has really got me excited. I am just loving watching him play, it's fantastic. Great hands, very decent in the ruck, quick, mobile and can slot it through the sticks. Can't leave it at that though. Watts is a massive +, also Howe, Gawn, Nicho and McKenzie.

Note: I am only talking about new positives, there are others, but we are well aware of those already.

Edit: Spose we already knew bout McKenzie, but I mean new + for this year.

Watts, Martin, Howe, Nicholson, but especially Jordie McKenzie.

We have our own Paul Kelly, and I'm not talking the 'gravy making' type.

I saw him smashed at several stoppages today, only to get up and make another contest and clearance. The guy is a rare gem. You can't teach that kind of grit.

I liked this aspect of the post game wind-up by the players. But it makes you wonder - did we have to be told by the media it made good sense, or would our team (and captain) make that decision independently, as a matter of good leadership?

I agree man i am getting so excited about big stef. I must admit i had written him off at the start of the year.i truly didnt think hed make it. I remember having a good laugh with some of my mates when people at the club started speculating that stef would need to stand up and play a big role for us this year with the introduction of the sub rule. All of a sudden hes now a cult hero amongst us! i just love his composure in traffic and his sheer athleticism. Really hope he can keep it up so we can continue to enjoy watching him play!

that we are a young team that didn't mope around in a funk after last weeks thrashing and instead came out and played brilliant footy.

GAWN! Im telling you he is a cult hero already.

Absolutely. I thought the goal Trengove kicked after the Gawn tackle got the biggest cheer of the day, and it wasn't for Trengove's nice finish.

I thought Gawn wouldn't even get into the contest when the ball went forward, but he found a way. His follow-up effort to lay the tackle was brilliant - I loved it.

There was a couple of efforts like that against Williamstown a few weeks ago. Really pleasing to the eye. It's efforts like that which the coaches take notice. In such a pressure game that's exactly the determination that they would want. They'll have confidence in picking him when required without hesitation if Jamar or Martin go down.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
