Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

What I would love to see from our team in the near future is....

  • 1st, 2nd, 3rd, (and even 4th) efforts at getting the ball to be the standard MO for all players
  • The transition from Attack to a Forward defensive press by our forwards is organised and quick
  • The kick out is so fast oppositions teams don't have the time to set up their zone
  • Our player keep their feet when contesting and are not being bodied off the ball
  • When impeded or infringed upon in a contest players don't stop to appeal for the free kick they keep contesting
  • When a team mate does courageous stuff every one takes the time to show appreciation
  • All players know where they should be when zoning off

I maybe venting but I just needed to release some those things that frustrate me when I'm watching the Footy. If even half of my wishlist is filled I would be a happy camper.

This my wish list what is yours?

How is McKenzie not in the 22?

I picked the time based on our first round draft picks and Priority picks from the last few years. McKenzie is stiff but I ran out of spots and he isn't a player that you play as a sub.

All of the above and I'd like to see:

Every player applying the skulls single minded determination to leave no stone unturned in the pursuit of excellence. A pact between players to follow his lead.

Every playing imposing on themselves a minimum base line performance above their current output.

Every player attacking the ball and trying to move it forward to a teammate(or locking it in our forward line).

Trengove coming back and tackling with the same intensity.

Morton,Sylvia,Petterd,(i could go on) playing with a higher at the ball intensity.

Watts continuing to grow in confidence.

Our players realising they have the capacity to be just as good as anyone going around or can achieve those heights, Sylvia could be as good as Pendebury, Watts will be as good as Reiwoldt, etc etc.

No more pathetic passes and inability to work out of defence.

No more stupid frees from Dunn.

A forward line constantly working the spaces inside 50.

Jurrah and Petterd running the legs of their backs.

Morton attacking the ball in the way he started last week before the umpires cruelled him.

No giving up at the start of the game or even when the tide turns against us.

Bailey not accepting half hearted efforts and letting rip if his plan is not being followed (that should expose if he has one).

Bailey heeding what Roos has told him when they spoke and applying it.

Our players having the guts and determination most supporters have, if chip is tired of losing spare a moment for us supporters, I have been a supporter for 50 years like many here that has taken a lot out of us but we turn up every week ready to give our all for the team. We dont give up.

If thats not enough ponder how you can face big Jimma after a game if you haven't left every last effort out there on the ground.

Reflect on all of that for a moment when you pull on the jumper.

I want a MFC "Mighty Demons Creed" (referred to by the players and club as The Creed) placed above the race for all to see just before the players head out.

The Captain gathers the boys below The Creed. Placed on either side of The Creed are pictures of 4 - 5 of our most recognisable greats in full flight, and above them is a picture of The Red Fox, the Great Norm Smith.

Then, reading from the Creed (see below), while looking every team mate in the eye, The Captain says/asks of the players....

  • Will you leave everything you've got on the park this day for the Mighty Red & Blue, win lose or draw?
  • Never say die and give it 110% during every contest including 2nd and 3rd efforts in honor of each other, your coach, your supporters and red legs of old?

  • Take on all foes and put your body over the ball no matter what? Fight, scrap, scrag, shepherd, back into traffic, smother, chase until you drop and dive into packs to get the ball?

  • Will you honor and do justice this day to a great legend and the spirit of the MFC, the greatest Australian Football coach in history (selected as the coach of the AFL's Team of the Century in 1996, who led the Mighty Demons to a staggering six premierships from 1955 to 1964), The Great Norm Smith? *

Depending on the response he may need to repeat the first and/or 2nd line again, until he feels everyone's on board and revved!

He then turns and leads his team mates up the race revving em on as they go. Hopefully to the mighty roar of a huge crowd of red and blue supporters giving it their all!

I'm not saying the above is THE Creed. It can be worked on by greater wordsmiths and historians of the club than i before being finalised. But i think something like this prior to every match would be a great addition and tradition within the club and hopefully impress upon the playing group the minimum we expect if they're to play for this club (and reinforced just before the game).

In addition, every player receives and must read a copy of the Red Fox as part of their induction to the club!

* I'm not certain about this part. If kept it would probably need to be reduced in words somewhat....but the full version should at least be on the wall alongside the picture of Norm Smith, so that every player can clearly read it while standing there.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
