Scully a chance to play this weekend

Posted before it turns into another 'stay or go' debate.

The question is...who do we drop if he plays seniors?

Note: Tapscott to miss 3 according to the article

The article hinted that he was a chance to play Seniors or Casey. Would be a tough ask to come back Friday night in the wet against one of the fastest teams!

the coach of whoever is playing Casey this week is [censored] his pants

Ironically ...... Peter German !!

I'm in the "play him at Casey" match, he's still very young and as much as he is a quality young player, I'm sure he will be rusty and I'd rather ease him into it and get him some math fitness.

The sensible side of me agrees, but it's a very small side. Bring him in.

Has to play Casey. No player is good enough to come straight in. Frawley was a shadow of himself coming straight in. Same with Morton. Even ablett looked average round 2.

But, would it have taken Frawley less or more time to work his way to form had he come back through the VFL, given he wouldn't have played more than 1-2 games there and given it took him 6 rounds to find some touch?

I don't disagree that Scully should probably get back via Casey, however we have to accept that whether he is back this week or next, he will be rusty and it will take him time to work back into form. Question is, can you think of anyone currently available for selection who would exceed the output of a half-done Scully?

Nobody, by a long stretch, but the point is more that if he did the injury again it would go down as a totally moronic decision to play him straight in

Hope they go for it though, the club needs a bit of a lift.. my tip is for the sub

Article in the Hun, makes the Casey leap without quoting sources...also brings up 'Giants officials', but we all know what Jon Ralph is like...

Melbourne star Tom Scully to play comeback game in the VFL.

It's a stress injury. Is he any less likely to hurt himself again at Casey than at Melbourne?

Hate to bring up the subject but there's an Interesting quote from Amused of Berwick in the comments at the end of the article.

I know the Scullys. He has never spoken to GWS. His focus at the moment is recovery. He finds the people that 'know' that he's gone quite amusing.

I did see that, had a chuckle

Anyone remember he's last game when it was wet and a night match?

rd 7 against the Dogs i believe.

On that note; PLAY HIM

I'm curious as to if he's used these last 9 weeks to 'muscle-up'. Obviously hasn't been able to do much running or skills work. Definitely would have been a good opportunity to put on some pounds.

MFC site has him listed at 77kg at the start of the year. for a 182cm player thats still very light. Once he gets to Ablett territory of 88kg he'll be a damn machine!

Having said that.

wouldnt mind the ins of; Scully Trengove Jamar and possibly Tapscott on queens birthday against the filth

Jamar 3-5, Bull 3 weeks, doubtful unfortunately.

I remember that game vividly. It was the Pink Lady cancer friday night at the 'G'. Was the first game my Mum had been to see in years!!! and she instantly fell in love with our young demons. Scully had an absolute blinder. 39 touches for the game. 15 or something in the last quarter.

not to mention 3 brownlow votes.....

....one guy beat us that night too. Aker.....

how times have changed!

2cents worth: 1-2 games in the VFL. hurt some people, get some confidence. Rack up the touches.

Are you serious? He's not superman? half done? A Half done Scully would be no better than any of the other midfield options IMO

My only question mark would be returning a player with leg injuries straight into AFL with no slower paced VFL games where some match day pressure can be placed on the legs.

Frawley, for example was running for a few weeks before he came back - before his shoulder was declared ok to go.

IF I am understanding correctly, Tom has done little to no leg work in 8 weeks.

Last thing we want is rushing him back to full on AFL with limited preparation and see a hamstring go.

The rust/touch aspect doesnt overly concern me - I will leave this to medicos smarter than me

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
