Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I thought today's effort was pretty good considering:

1. we were 1 man down most of the game. And by our current standards, a relatively experienced man.

2. many of the players would be spare wheels if we didn't have so many injuries

3. Evans

4. Green starting to pick up

To hang on against an embarrassed team which would have won the flag last year bar an odd bounce was a pretty good effort given the circumstances/

And some pretty dubious umpiring,, eg at the start of the game, the lack of a free on the goal line when Gwilt should have been got for holding the ball when his attempt to push over the line was resisted. The TV commentators said it was too much to expect an umpire to give a free kick right there so early in the game!~ Are these guys real?

Yes I know Davey was pretty useless, and some others not much better. If Davey can't beat a tag why not get him to sit in the goal square. That takes his opponent out of the game and if Davey does get a kick, it might be a goal which is better than 6 kicks off the wing.

Watts was great. He uses the ball exceptionally well and creates a contest. I would start him and half forward and let him drift back and play through the centre. He's going to be a gun. He's huge and well and is going to knock somebody out Neitz style

We tried. We might have played dumb footy on many occasions but we didn't die wondering. I can accept up and down results as long as we give our all.

Positives for me:

Martin - the lad is improving every game and thriving on the responsibility. He's no Jamar, but he's fighting hard.

Evans - Really good debut. Butchered the odd ball, but he never stopped running and presenting. Experience will cure the little errors.

Maric - I seriously thought he'd never take the step up to AFL level, but we may well have our own version of the tip rat here.

Watts - His assurance with the ball through the midfield was great. He's much more comfortable running through the middle than in the goalsquare.

Clearance work - We have a the beginnings of a midfield engine on the field now. Moloney, McKenzie and Gysberts are all animals in close. Add Scully and we'll be looking pretty good at stoppages.

Edit - some typos in there

I know it is disappointing/frustrating/etc/etc that we are not pushing towards finals again, but what can you expect given the circumstances? If we were forced to field the entire Casey team you'd still be moaning 'mediocre'.

If Grimes, Tapscott, Scully, Trengove, Bail, Jamar (and main backuo Spencer) etc had been playing, maybe you'd be justified, but you are just wrist-slitting. Won't make you feel better.

Did they roll-over today? No. Will they get clobbered over the next few weeks? Probably will, and would be even if the season was on-track. As long as they have a crack you can't expect too much more.

Moloney wanting to win so bad he gave Jordie Mckenzie a dont argue to get a clearance, in the 4th

Yeah I loved this moment, as well as in the third with his bump on the saints players over the boundary line. We were close to getting in front in the third but just lacked the class or poise to put the score on the board - which is understandable given our injuries. I thought they at least had a crack today.

Maric - kicked a couple of good set shots that kept us in touch while other more experienced players missed their opportunities

Yes, given the team we're putting out, probably best we can manage for the next while is going to be "tried hard".

Tons of positives to come out of this:

- With the exception of a select few, didn't feel that the team as a whole rolled over.

- Evans. Disposal will hopefully get cleaner with time, and he made one bad mistake in the last quarter and cost us a goal, but other than that a fantastic debut. Knows how to get the ball, has pace, and tackles.

- Gysberts. Best player for us today IMO.

- Watts is improving with each week. Was excellent.

- Martin needed to step up in a big way with Jamar out, and has. Today he timed his (crazily high) leaps to perfection and kept our mids in it. Must hold his place even when Jamar returns now.

I didn't feel anywhere near as bad about this as many on here seemed to. It was a pretty vanilla loss to me; we lost because our side was weaker than theirs and we had too much filler in the side. We were one extra class player away from winning that IMO.

Anyone else get the vibe from today that with a shade of extra class we would have had them? A Scully, a Trengove, a Jamar, hell a Col Garland in there seemed to possibly be all the difference today.

Agreed.

Gysberts will be one of the mainstays of our successful midfield a la Lappin, Corey. He is a beauty.

Michael Evans will be a very good midfilder.

How anyone can overlook Gysberts is beyone me.

His work by hand in packs is exceptional. Bordering on elite already.

The rest of his game isn't too bad either.

Seriously, watch the reply and see how quick, clean and deft his hands are.

Something to behold.

I called after his debut that he looks like James Hird...everything I see keeps my view intact. He's sen-[insert choice 4-letter word]-sational.

Absolutely agree. At least this week they didn't acquiesce like they did against Norf. What was disappointing was that it was a couple of stupid errors that cost us dearly. I thought the team fought it out despite the brain fades. They could have dropped their bundle within the first ten minutes but they did fight it out. Stef Martin gets better every week. Jetta put out today. Losing Tappy was a huge blow. Michael Evans showed considerable composure and Jack Watts has shown me today that he was a great football brain. Did anyone expect to win - seriously - no. Did we half expect to get slaughtered - yes. Commentators were saying that Saints would beat us by 5 goals. Well with a few umpiring decisions going our way we may have just got up.

Positives: Evans, Watts, Gysberts, Mckenzie playing, Frawley most of the time, Maric and Jetta were pretty good, Martin,

add Jamar, Scully, Trengove, Tapscott, Garland, you'd have the makings of a good team.

Malthouse or Roos are paramount at this junction.

Todays effort was good todays strategy was embarrassing. We had a backline filled with honest triers who cannot dispose of the ball yet they had obviously been told to try and transition at every opportunity.

We played one man down for 3 qtrs meaning McKenzie and Evans would have played alot more minutes than expected.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
