GAWN

I'm looking forward to seeing how this big kid progresses. Named emergency, still raw but he could be a small chance to debut whilst Jamar is out. I wish him the best of luck. Saw him at one of the tents a few weeks ago. Wow. Man mountain, and will be massive when he fills out those skin folds. :)

He has good support among our other ruckmen and plenty of good advice to learn from in Jamar, Campbell.

Ripper of a bloke too, i cant wait to see him play; he wouldn't be the only raw ruckman currently getting a game on senior lists.

From Gotch's player review from the weekend:

Stefan Martin: Stef copped a knee to the ribs, which slowed him up a bit. He couldn’t fulfill his full ability, but he was gutsy and played the game out.

Possibly still feeling it a little bit. No doubt Gawn was just named as a precaution.

Wouldn't it be fun to see the kid get a go if not tomorrow over the next weeks. I'm hoping.

Tomorrow is Newton's big day. This is his chance to show he can fill a place as a utility ruckman. If he has no impact that would be the end.

Whispering Jack sponsors this young mountain of a man. Very bright future ahead. Just getting confidence in himself.

I certainly do and he is a big lad.

I'm stoked that he's been picked as an emergency and can't wait to see him wear the famous #37 onto the ground (IIRC the great Jimmy Stynes wore that number in his early years at the club).

How did you go WJ last Friday ? Big Maxy seemed to handle himself quite well. I think he is quite smart ruck-wise and has good footy nous.

Love his stance when lining up for goal. Different but cult figure stance-like. I cannot recall who said it, but it looks as though his stance is akin to lining up for a putt.

Great mark against the like of Fletcher. Pity about the behind, but I reckon his kicking is ok for a ruckman. Some field kicks hit their targets on the move. The previous week against Williamstown, Gawn had quite a few kicks and to me they were very good hitting their targets.

Looks good.

I thought he acquitted himself quite well, didn't star (no one expected him to) and i would've loved for him to kick that goal, but clearly still quite young and raw. Plenty to build on.

Not sure how many saw the video Nathan Jones posted via his Twitter page, but watching Maxy play golf, I think that of he used his set shot stance on the golf course, he would have a lot more success than what he currently uses.

For those that didn't see it, the golf club went a lot further than the ball did. I think you can access the clip through the MFC website/Twitter section. I'll try and post the link on here if I can, unless someone else can do it quicker??!!

Yeh saw that also. Wasn't a hard hit but wasn't really necessary, pretty sh*t act.

Praying mantis.

And yes I saw it, and yes he is not someone I would drink a beer with.

Yeah, noticed that on last nights replay. Like water off a ducks back with THE BIG FACTOR. Typical old man syndrome being shown up like that.

Loved getting excited by seeing him play on Friday night. And watching the replay (twice) confirmed to me he looks every inch a senior ruckman in waiting. It was somewhat of a blessing, if you like, that both Jamar and Spencer went down to hasten his progression.

What I also love about the kid that Ive read in interviews with players is that he's a very confident, nay cocky, young lad. I think its a good trait to have if you want to succeed.

Away from footy - ie. on the golf course. If anything, throwing clubs tells me he is a very competitive person; and maybe one who has a short fuse. :)

As an aside, a guy went to jail recently for throwing a golf club that ended up cracking the skull of someone he was playing with.

On a serious note, I loved how well he used his body in ball ups and throw ins, he was very hard to move, even for a big man like Hille.

Not sure how much he will play once Jamar is back, but the future looks bright.

Possibly way ahead of where the club thought he would be I am thinking.

To me it simply says he's [censored] at golf! Which is hardly a surprise considering he's a giant and his set shot shows maybe he won't ever be the most skilled bloke.

Anyone think big Maxy won't play this week after being named on the extended bench. I'm pretty sure he still will and Barty for Evans will be the only change.

Loved his aggression today. More than once i saw him get to a contest and/or put a Freo player square on their backside, legally.

Was surprised that he had so few possessions when looking at the team sheet. Think he'll be out for Jamar though, if the big guy's ready.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
