Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Matty warnock flew the flag with plenty of push and shove against Tippett of the crows. he let him know he was there. We should see more of the intimidating ploys from our players. As long as they don't overstep it, I'm fine with it.

It sets the scene and let's the enemy know they are in for a match. Should see more of it !!!!!!

bit of anger doesn't hurt anyone. grrr.

thats all fine and good but how do we fit all of Rivers, Garland, Frawley and Warnock in the one side?

Great problem to have I think.

I agree with GTW what the MFC needs is tough agressive play.

Warnock is one of a very few at the Dees that provides that factor.

We will need it on Saturday as North have always scared us out of games.

Warnock will go toe to toe with the best of them.

I know Rivers is a VC and all, but I prefer to have Warnock in the side. He may not be as skillful, but he is a better gorilla keeping defender and allows Frawley to run rampant. If we were to drop Warnock for Rivers that would tie Frawley down on the opposition's best forward while Rivers played the extra tall. Team-wise that is a less useful scenario.

Warnock got better as the day wore on. I thought he did well and ran out the game strongly. He always cops a good opponent and never gets an easy day. Tippett is a large and quality unit. Matty looked fit and despite the size differential never took a backward step. I realise he can look a little clumsy at times, but there are way more positives than negatives with Matty Warnock. Good, hard bodied impact player to have up back. I thought he grasped his opportunity.

I think for Warnock to be consistent member of the starting 21+1 he is going to have add some versatility to his game such as being able to be swung forward....

Hell - that was tried in the end of season game against Richmond in 2009, and it didn't work! B)

would you play him on Petrie this week ?

Frawley will probably go to Thomas so I suppose he's a 50/50 chance with Col Garland. Maybe Riv if available, but I'm not sure of his injury status. The bloke who tore us appart last year was Harvey as I recall, so I hope they have a different plan for him this year. However I have digressed.

Important in a young team. More ways than one.

I haven't been less convinced by Matty than I am right now.

He seems to have lost a lot of confidence - far too worried about where his opponent is in marking contests, doesn't back himself (as he used to) to judge it better and get to the ball first.

And what is Melbourne fans fascination with jumper-punching? Dunn's tough cause he acts like this at the start of games? Warnock is a competitor for the same reason?

Trengove is tough because of the way he goes about it when the footy is near, not because of pointless aggro and jumper punching...

I don't get the recent criticism of him. I actually think we've looked better defensively with Warnock down there. I know there's been a couple of really bad games, but they're games that have been lost because of the midfield battles and the getting-trapped-in-our-defensive-50-because-we-can't-break-the-press. Warnock has won his one-on-ones superbly - better than Rivers seems to. He doesn't offer as much going forward, no, but with Chip stepping into the attacking defender role nicely I don't think it matters that much anyway.

I think we can and have done worse in terms of defensive depth.

He is adequate replacement when our first choice defenders are out for various reasons, and IMO there are worse defenders than him getting regular games elsewhere in the competition.

He's done well in his limited opportunities this year. I think defensively he's good, but he is not and should never been used to attack out of the backline.

Interesting that the article on the MFC website mentions him going up forward. Would be a worthy experimentation.

Agree, not blessed with the physical attributes or skills of a top-liner but gets the best out of himself. It must be said though that for this reason he pushes the rules to thier absolute limit.

On the wrong day against the wrong umpire he can quickly become a liability.

Lost confidence?...he was one of the few shining lights last week...he killed Petrie (who the week before looked like he was coming back into form), it was Edwards who got away from a combination of Garland/Dunn and whoever else

Warnock is a good full back, playing against gorillas, so he treats them like that, he has taken a couple of games to get back up to speed, hopefully he will stay in, although match ups again this weekend may have him out again

Agreed. An in-form Warnock greatly stregthens our backline, and gives more flexibility to how Frawley is used. I reckon the combination of Warnock, Frawley, Rivers, Garland and MacDonald gives us tremendous versatility down back. They may not all play in the same game. But, it means we can mix and match, depending on the opposition any given week.

Indeed - takes his eye off the footy just before the ball is getting to his area and focusses on his opponent, even when Warnock has prime position.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
