Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Jordan Gysberts

A natural contested ball winner who is strong overhead and drifts forward to kick goals. Was easily our best mid today.

I was dreaming today of Gysberts and Scully together in the centre and at ball ups/throws around the ground.

When the likes of Gysberts, McKenzie, Scully and Trengove are being rotated through the middle, we might start to see clean clearances more often. In fact I'd put my house on it.

Tapscott also seems to have good hands in close, maybe another option in the future.

I really hope Blease comes on, we need to add to outside class.

Gys is a freaking star whether he gets a trophy for it or not, he might well be the best of all our future mids.

This. I made this call last year in a thread about the "young, potentially elite" players on our list, and i stand by it to this point. He's got IT, IMHO, does Jordan Gysberts.

Whilst we have a raft of early picks with 'elite potential' and plenty of development still ahead (guys like Morton, Watts, Blease, Scully, Trengove, Tapscott etc etc), the cornerstone to this recent period of drafting is the Scully/Trengove midfield combo. While both already look very likely stars, the Gys has flown under the radar (mainly due to injury and an underdeveloped body), but i've no doubt that he will be right up there with them, or perhaps even ahead when they reach the peak of their powers circa 2013-2015 in their early-mid 20s.

Given the contested style of game he plays, another 5 kegs on the frame and some added run in the legs from a couple of pre-seasons... He will be that much more powerful and dangerous, with his quick hands and great game sense, he'll be almost unstoppable at the clearances and around the ground. Add to that decent height (190ish) and a pretty solid overhead ability, and he's got all the right ingredients to be a tall, powerful inside clearance midfielder who can also push forward on occassion and kick a goal. His potential 'ceiling' is as tall as anybodys at the club, bar perhaps Jack Watts IMO.

'was easily our best mid today'..... if I were Brent Moloney and saw that comment, I'd be numb with disbelief, and probably start questioning whether I was in fact invisible....ridiculous hyperbole.

Amen. Our infatuation with our young players is funny. Gysberts was great, but if he'd had Moloney's game we'd be calling for Brownlow's next year. Gizzy was fantastic and if he has a full year like this I will be so happy however, pity Mr.Webber's car last night wasn't as good as this Webber's comment

Tapscott deserves it more for his efforts in the 3 games he has played. But I think Gys shaded him this week. Either way, we could get one this week. Polec was good today for Brisbane, but surely he wont get it yet. Not too sure who has stood up in the other games.

Not sure about that. Tap was hard in and marking well. I rate those just as highly as racking up possessions.

Moloney was good but his turn overs by foot are frustrating. 37 touches perhaps allows a turnover or three.

The kid looks great! My first look at him yesterday and I am very impressed.

I've heard his name pronounced Gysberts (with the "Y" pronounced as in "EYE") and GIsberts (IS).

Which is it?

I'd be so mad that I might just urinate in the very next bar I entered.

I have noticed 3 things about Gys.....

1/ Gets to the right places

2/ Finds space

3/ Always looks like he has time

4/ Clean with his hands

5/ Disposes nicely

I see no reason why both Gys and Tappy can't play every game form here on in (barring injury).

Both will pick up a nomination before the season is out, as for winning it I think it will be hotly contested this season so anyone could win it.

go on then who is soft? Watts and Bennell, anyone else? Or you blokes just feel like slagging the whole side off?

Many instances where a player in red & blue hesitates. I don't need to name players as I'm not slagging anyone off, watch the tape and the evidence is there. The difference in desperation and sheer bloody head over the pill football that Gysberts displayed stood out from many others.

Some might throw themselves into a contest as a bit of an 'act' through a game, but it's the players that consistently hunt in for the ball with a desire to improve an outcome selflessly for the side that I want.

Not enough display that trait, thankfully Gysberts does and that is who this thread is about?

i see jordan as a Judd like, and taps is the Kerr like, now that was a lethal midfield duo, now will everyone stop the watts bashihg, people on the tackle, are calling him the worst no 1 pick every, key position take time, if the club listen to out side talk about players then jamar and Colin sylvia would have been delisted years ago, if watts is playing like this when he is 22 then we did pick a dud, nic nat whould have not been any better of a pick up, has only showed a tinny bit more then watts

Considering he grew up a life-long Demon supporter, I'm pretty sure he wouldn't want to be anywhere else either.

His folks got up at the draft function a couple years back saying the family were all mad Collingwood supporters (apparently Jordy was a '1990 Premiership baby').

However, by the time they arrived a the 'G that night they were all converted Demons B)

Great game. Got his hands on the ball at stoppages and used the footy well. Hate to put pressure on the kid but the way he moves and at his height we could have a young Pendlebury on our hands.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
