Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I have no idea what prompted North Melbourne supporters to ring up SEN and whinge about the positivity Melbourne is receiving. It's the NAB Cup. We've played, and won. North hasn't played. What do you expect?

After beating the usual suspects (Collingwood, Carlton, Essendon) I really want to see us spank North Melbourne this year.

On top of what Hot as Hell has written, Garry Lyon has written an article that many here should take heed of.

Absolutely.

Was listening to SEN a caller said he was from the inner sanctum at Melbourne and Scully isn't going anywhere. Now of course we must take this with a grain of salt but when you weigh everything up- dreams, mates, family, rich culture, history, the MCG Vs money and money alone the decision becomes quite easy indeed.

On another note- a caller named Terry (North supporter) called up and spewed a shite load of vitriol, called us a PATHETIC club, with PATHETIC supporters "and there are only half a dozen of them" (rich coming from a North supporter) who are only good because we "tanked the last 5 years" and are only good at "holding out our tins for handouts" This guy made my blood boil.

What is it about North supporters? So bitter, so jealous! They are all upset that we are the club that gets all the attention, they get none. They are boring, they have a boring strip and a boring emblem. Kangaroos are boring too, what do they do? Hop? [censored] me off!!

Had a bit of a chuckle after reading your last few words. Don't worry about those who ring up spewing vitriol about our club. I see it as confirmation our club must be doing something right. They're a little miffed, a little jealous and just want to be heard.

When our no.1 ticket holder and club legend Barrassi came out yesterday re: Scully. I would have preferred he stated something like Scully's staying put, he has my no.31....

I actually wish he hadn't said anything.

He can hardly give Scully advice on staying...

A couple of BigFooty posters have mentioned that they said on last night's telecast something about Scully having a new manager?

Anyone heard anything about this? Or what was said on the telecast? I'm thinking maybe it was a tongue in cheek reference made by one of the commentators as this would be big news if true.

I love it. I much to prefer to be hated than pitied. Hatred stems from fear while pity stems from contempt.

I'm really not sure what bee Nth has in its bonnet about us but I look forward to giving them more to bleat about on and off the field.

Geez this thread really is a tribute to Tom isn't it? Like him it just keeps going and going and going...

Yes i heard Terry on SEN, made me laugh...If we have 6 supporters then North have 2.

The kangas are worried because they can see the writing on the wall.

We only need one Melbourne in this city.

Scully is a great player, no doubt about it. However, his future is in his own hands, not ours - it has nothing to do with us - put yourself in his shoes. He chooses money OR potential success - he is still young, he can have both in his career.

My beef is with the AFL system. They introduced the draft to assist clubs like ours & then they allow young players like Scully, Martin etc. to be subjected to open slather from Gold Coast & GWS within 12 months of being drafted – very wrong.

If Scully goes, so be it. I won’t be angry with him, as long as they recognise his potential & reward us accordingly. I have enough confidence in our administration & our list that we will do well over the next 5 years.

Unfortunately, if Scully does not commit now, the Gary Ablett Jnr syndrome will be at Melbourne this year. Poor Dean Bailey having to answer the same question every week for the rest of the year. The longer this goes, the more inevitable it becomes.

haha we need more blokes like Beemer!!

If tom scully leaves i'd have no issues boing him and calling him Judas. The club probably harp on a little too much about our rich history and tradition, but surley the kid understands what the #31 means....

Me neither, but I can't see him going.

That said, if he was really committed to his club like some other players (Trengove & Thomas for instance), why wouldn't he respond the same way?

The annoying thing is the potential for damage that can result from Scully's stance on this. Either way, Judas or hero, he risks damaging MFC and his image big time.

Doesn't matter how much Tom's management try to keep him in the dark, one thing he would know is whether he has signed a contract with GWS or not. He must also know how much this sort of unresolved speculation can damage a club. So if he has signed, he should say so. If he hasn't signed he must say so. A simple dignified statement saying "I haven't signed anything, I will negotiate and sign after the 2011 season ends" would be perfect.

I think DB and the club management are perfectly within thier rights to as him to make the announcement if he hasn't signed anything. The longer it goes on without such an announcement, the more worried I get.

When he resigns with us the hype will go to another level. That alone will be worth 5000 members. Bring it on Tom!

Although he did qualify it in a way by saying 'I haven't signed an AFL contract with GWS'. That doesn't mean, for example, he's signed a non-AFL contract stipulating that at the conclusion of this year he will sign an AFL contract.

Whether you read that much into his choice of words is up to you. I don't, but I know people who do.

if they are telling the truth than that statement is not a worry, as his manager said he has not spoken to GWS.

I do find that incredibly hard to believe though.

Idiotic SEN callers aside I would be sad to see north go. I still hold out some kind of naive hope that in 50 years time there will still be 9 Melbourne based clubs, and that we hold onto at least part of the suburban tribal mentality.

Edit: make that 8, happy to see essendon fold.

Healy said something along the lines of "Have you heard the rumour that Mark Kleiman will be the new 'something?' manager at 3AW"

Pickering responded "Was that a bus you just put me in front of? Since you were the one who told me the rumour why don't you tell us about it."

They both laughed and nothing else was said.

If what he says isn't going to be taken at face value then he can release a statement a day and it won't be enough. Those that are worried will only cease worrying when the MFC announces a new contract has been inked.

I don't presume to know what is going around in his head but his call that he just wants to focus on footy this winter fits with everything I've heard about the lad, and with his management wanting a bidding war to break out he probably just took that advice without realising what a circus this GWS thing would turn into. Sure it happened last year with Ablett but he isn't Ablett - yet - and I guess the assumption was that higher profile players than him would be the ones getting the headlines. That's just the way I see it and the constant analysis of every word, facial expression, movement etc is not only futile but pretty insulting to someone that we expect to give 100% for the club every week.

He will either stay or go, and if he goes it will be for the money that we can't hope to match but that will be his decision to live with. The MFC will be around long after he has hung up the boots and at the end of the day that is all that really matters.

The statement that came from his manager is completely meaningless. All legal speak stalling tactics loaded with carefully chosen words that say nothing that can bite them back when he does go north. That makes it even more worrying and I hope I am wrong. If he said Tom has not signed an AFL contract with GWS nor have we spoken to them and also we have not spoken to or signed an agreement with other 3rd party affiliates linked to GWS then I would be comfortable in believing the line that Tom won't entertain contract discussions till the end of the season. My gut feeling says Tom is GONE!

That's not your gut, it's the fear in your mind that makes you think/feel this way. He's going nowhere.

Cannot imagine anyone refusing an offer that big. It is like when guys go bush to work on mines. At the time it is the big money that attracts them but they soon realise that the life is crap and eventually most of them would be wiiling to take a pay cut to get their life back. In Scully's case it would be taking a pay cut to get team success.

Do we really think staying in Melbourne would be that much of a motivating factor for him signing with MFC. Sydney is one hour away by plane. Most of us on this site would move to the other side of the planet for that sort of money. (Or even move to Adelaide!!!)

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
