Why is Eddie any different to any other rumourmongering journalist?

The only difference I can see is that he has even more motivation to cause chaos than any other journo.

Eddie's comments re: Melbourne have been quite good over the journey. Now that television money is filtering through the system add free agency and noone is safe from predator clubs.

As much as i'd hate to see him go, if we were going to lose Tom i'd rather see him go to a club like GWS who will have little to no affect on our Premiership aspirations in the next 5 years, whether they have Scully or not.

If he does leave us, it will be a massive set back to the club's progression both on and off the field. All the hard work that has been put into regaining our integrity and building a desireable culture will be undermined, all through the decision of a number 1 draft pick to wanting to leave the club after 2 years.

I know it's all heresay at this stage but whichever way you look at it, it would come across that Tom never wanted to be a part of the Melbourne Football Club from day dot and that would hurt the club terribly.

Regardless of whether this happens (im nearly convinced it will now), The AFL has created a monster but they are too damn arrogant to admit it even though they wouldn’t be happy about the drafting system being destroyed. All these big wigs at the club and the AFL failed to think of this scenario when signing off on the concessions. What happened to due diligence? We supporters and members have been shafted.

I don't think it would come across as that at all.

I think it would purely come across as too much money for a kid to turn down.

And also a serious flaw in the poaching rules for new clubs entering the comp.

That is true, Eddie came out and announced it that he in very confident Scully has signed at well over a mil per year.

Eddie also said that if he was on the footy show he would be listing it as the story of the year, as it is detroying rebuilding clubs like ours

Unfortunately, unless Scully or his management confirm or deny he has signed with GWS, this will be the AFL story of the year and will go on unabated, as the Ablett one did.

On another tack, "IF" Scully does leave and we ( the club ) were told about it now, even confidentially, at least the club could get on the front foot and demand heavy compensation from the AFL. I am sure given the negative publicity that would follow if Scully went to GWS, the AFL could be pressured into far more compensation than would otherwise be the case. I would be looking at pick 1 for the first 2 ( compromised ) drafts GWS is in, being this year and next. I could live with that. Maybe that would put GWS off looking to take a young priority pick player off a club. Anyway, it's just a thought.

On another issue, how do these rumours start? I would imagine if GWS had signed Scully everyone would be sworn to secrecy as Scully would have demanded it so that he doesn't have to deal with what has just happened. Leaking it would only put the deal at risk. I smell a rat and think it is a diversion from other players that may have actually signed. I also smell revenge in that scenario from an overlooked Melbourne Coach, one K Sheedy.

Whatever happens/ has happened it should be out in the open. If Scully has accepted his management's advice to take the big money then the club and supporters shouldn't be subjected to weekly innuendo and fake denials throughout the season as in the Ablett fiasco. Scully should be prepared to accept the consequences of the decision, if he has made it, that being to leaving a potentially great team for $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. Remember that Nathan Buckley walked out on three premierships to play with the black and white.

Funny. for a story that would be big news, it is not on the HS site, the Age or backpagelead. Just Eddie spouting. And we all know that he doesn't see any problems with being president and journo.

Until we see it signed, it has not happened and is not happening.

Any chance that conflict of interest scumbag is trying to divert the attention away from Pendelbry, thomas & swan?

Or that GWS is leaking that sort of rumour to divert attention from who they are really chasing? I don't see how Eddie would know any more about it than anyone else in the biz.

You are kidding aren't you? As Club President he would get access to AFL information an arms length journalist not involved in an AFL role would cry for.

Despite all the rumours, and they are rumours. It will be interesting to see what our club is prepared to do (and offer) to retain Scully. IMO we cannot afford to lose him. Melbournefc was desperate to unearth a "star" and I think they found one in Tom.

Just look at my avatar. There's alot of work been done to create the right environment for any young kid to thrive and enjoy his footy. I'm guessing there will be a bit more work to do.

Here's a scenario for you. It's confirmed that Scully has signed during the season.

R Barassi jumps the fence after a game and rips the number 31 guernsey off Scully's back and gives him the death stare. Gold!

What was the SEN thing about?

I only caught the end of it.

No revelations there mate. Basically said it's all speculation.

I did like this though:

Female reporter - "Have you heard the latest rumour?"

Bailey - "What's that?"

Female reporter - "That he's signed.."

Bailey - "Has he? Oh well...."

SEN have just reported that Dean Bailey has just helf a press conference re Tom Scully, stay tuned.

but apparently some on here think we are just purely hand wringing, tedious and hysterical and therefore should not be posting on this topic. I would appreciate any update on DB's press conference, as I don't have access to a radio at present.

What I dont get is that last year it was discovered that there was a loop hole in the rules that allowed GC to talk to and sign contracted players...we knew this last year...why was this not fixed so we are not now going through the Ablett situation all over again???

The thing that gets me is that, unlike Ablett, there could only be one reason for Scully moving to GWS: money.

Ablett argued (whether he believed it or otherwise) that he'd already achieved it all at Geelong, and that moving to the Gold Coast gave him a fresh start, a chance at captaincy, a new challenge, and a way out of a club on the decline.

Scully can't say moving from Melbourne to GWS gives him any of those. He's yet to achieve anything at Melbourne, we're on the up, he said back in 2009 he was hoping to be drafted by a Victorian club to stay in Victoria, and he's just as much of a chance to captain MFC as he is GWS.

Just seems to me that the backlash against him might be quite strong compared to Ablett. I mean, many of us can understand a 20 year old looking at an offer of those proportions and understandably jumping at it, but the media and other Melbourne supporters will just given him money-hungry-related crap.

FWIW the biggest thing for me is that a club like us, who only got Scully via a PP, can have him taken off us two years later. The PP was implemented by the AFL to keep the competition strong, just like the AFL implemented these rules for GWS' recruiting to keep them competitive. Allowing them to take our best youngster off us is contradictory to their aims as competition-managers and is really just robbing Peter to pay Paul. What's worse is that I can see this, if it does happen, leading to a rule change, which only helps clubs like GWS and GC in keeping their young talent after we've been the losers.

That's my thoughts on it. Hopefully he stays, and hopefully he can see that there's more to football than just money, but I have a sick feeling that those kind of dollars will sway him.

That's not necessarily what's happening here. He might not have signed and might be weighing up his choices.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
