The both believed Beamer didn't have what it took mainly an on field tough nut but not the poise required for Capt.

Green they said leads by example and is an ultra professional but doesn't really get involved too much (I assume they mean around the club)

The both rated Davey and said thats who will get their vote, he is very involved with the younger players and is more of a mentor/leader so it was an interesting comment.

They said Col will step up this year into the leadership group although he is the same as Moloney a leader but doesn't have the goods for the next step.

The FD think Chip walks on water so he'll be there and everyone rates Grimes...

Does anyone (probably everyone) recall at the beginning of 09 when Green was injured and wasn't selected in the leadership group? That was because he wasn't seen or heard while he was in rehab.

I thought it strange then, and mentioned it. Copped some criticism and that's fine.

Also Green taking care of his body is fine too. But there are some leaders who go beyond a txt message to new players and actually call them. That's just an example not the reason for why Aaron would get the gig.

It'll be between Green and Davey and I will understand why they choose whoever they choose.

I think it will boil down to a tough call between Aaron Davey and Brad Green with the former just scraping in. Let's face it, both have been shining lights through difficult times in recent years and whoever gets the gig will deserve it.

I would also like to see some of the younger brigade push into that leadership group so that there a succession plan can be implemented and we can overcome the loss of three leaders in McDonald, Bruce and Miller with a minimum of effort and fuss.

Talking with a few of the younger guys last night and they say Davey is the man. They feel he is the experienced player most amongst them and that he represents the club well with all the "window dressing" (my words not theirs) which is so much a part of club leadership now. They also reckon Bailey loves him. Suppose it depends how much weight the players vote has.

Interesting to see Rivers out and Grimes in the four. Progress has been made with Grimes' inclusion. But I think it will be between Green & Davey. I think Davey might have good support, but I'm tending to Green to get the nod now. Can certainly make a case for either and would be happy with either. I'd also be presently surprised and happy with Jack Grimes as our captain.

Btw H, the likes of Maxwell, Ling, Giansiracusa/Johnson have never really struck me as hard nosed captains.

I've said this before, if I think Davey as captain, I think of arguing with the umpire and giving away crucial 50s and gimme goals. He did this more than once this year. Imagine that in a tight preliminary final?

There's no doubt he's amongst our top few players and I'm a huge fan of the way he apparently conducts himself on the field. And I've no doubt he's got a great relationship with the young players and other leaders alike. I just feel his on-field temperament is too wayward for a captain. He's too easily ruffled and it costs the team at times.

I love the player and the man Aaron Davey has become, but it's Brad Green for me.

I thought it was strange, they asked me about the Capt and when I mentioned Green they sort of looked at each other like I never really thought of that and mentioned he is a professional was the sort of the response I got... If the players have such a big say as it is said then I think Davey will get the gig, the boys talked up Sylvia more than Green and said he is ready to step up after being a loose cannon

Green is probably best for the job, but I'd rather go with someone younger as I can't see him in the position for more than 2 years. Having said that, I will not be dissapointed if Brad gets the gig.

I'd be rapt to see Davey as captain as I know for a fact he has a genuine influence over some of our young guns. He's also in the perfect age bracket IMO. Those who say he doesn't hit it hard enough have no idea, he can change the pace of a game when he's on. I'd like to think if he was selected it would mean the end of his onfield antics however.

Moloney (from what I read on here) bleeds for the club, and it's that sort of passion you want from a leader. Don't think he'll be captain, but will not be complaining if I'm wrong.

Not to contradict my earlier comment, but I think Grimes is perhaps a touch too young. If Green is selected, I'd hedge a solid bet it'll be Jack that takes the reigns after his departure. The kid has some fantastic qualities about him.

I've been a big supporter of Grimes, even early days. I understand there might be more pressing circumstances such as getting fit, injury free and consistent footy behind him. I also understand the small amount of footy he has played to date. That said, I've been impressed also with Chip coming on like an express in terms of on field leadership, vocal on/off.

If we could fast forward a bit (ie a season or two), either of these guys would be primed for the role.

I've been a massive fan of a young captain leading a young team into a new era.

But Frank Grimes isn't ready. He's played what. 25 games in 3 years. The last thing i want is to see our captain play only 10-15 games a year.

Let him concentrate on his body and his game b4 throwing him the responsibility of the team.

Aaron Davey is a father figure amongst most players younger than him which is our premiership team right there. With a couple of strong and brave lieutenants either side of him he would be a great leader of our club. Although he has at times looked uncomfortable in front of a camera, if you've seen him on The Marngrook Footy show you'll know he has what it takes and I imagine he would grow into the roll well. Over the past couple of years I have always noticed him talking with debutantes in the pre-game warm-up on the field. At times when games have already been won or lost he has still put in 100% when others have taken their foot off the pedal. He has played some shockers when tagged, but it is easy to imagine with a talented, confident and strong team around him he would receive the support he has been lacking. He is well respected and each year becomes more mature and responsible and I know that I would be proud to be a Demon if he were appointed Captain of our club.

I love Green and have felt since McDonald's retirement that he would be the best replacement. Over these past 4 seasons he has been outstanding in his efforts on the field and has made an effort to address the weaknesses pointed out to him, however it sounds like he still doesn't have that much of a presence around the younger guys which is an issue. He has been our most consistent leader on field, but if he isn't respected by the whole playing group, then it would be a mistake to make him captain.

Moloney too hot tempered, Grimes too inexperienced.
