Jack Anthony

Don't know him as a person but I can confidently say he is far from terrible as a player. He would strengthen the forward line and is still very young, would make for a great PSD selection.

That was my thinking...it depends how much he wants to play AFL. Took Martin Pike a while to realize that sadly, but JA might work with a young side like Melbourne.

I do not know him personally and i have heard rumblings like others, but definately worth some consideration with a late pick.

Half the muppets on this thread have said how bad of a bloke he is.. but i actually wonder how many of them actually know that?

The guy can play, no doubt.. But its a mental thing for him, and as soon as Dawes took over, the race was done!

If bailey/viney/whoever is taking care of our players down there, can get into his head, he could be quite serviceable..

I just wish he was another 7-8cm and another 10kgs, cause at the moment he is another dunn/bate/green/petterd

Ugh! Not what we need... I hope it's not because we've lost Bruce and Junior in one swift hit that we've decided to go after someone for the hell of it.

i dont think that would be the way of thinking, but rather, could a mature forward, who has had a few seasons in him, relish a start at a new club, mind you personally i think that john anthony would benefit from our quick moving, pin point style of kicking and would at least be a good back up forward if we lose players like jurrah, dunn or green to injury.

it is whether dean bailey thinks mitch thorp or john nathony would be the better player as i can see us definately making a play for one of them

My link

"Demons coach Dean Bailey said today the club would look closely at Anthony, who has quit Collingwood in search of greater opportunities.

The forward would fill an obvious need in front of goal at Melbourne. "He's kicked 50 in a year in the AFL so not too many players have done that before," Bailey said. "I think he would be one of many names who have the necessary experience who you'd probably have a discussion about."

I'm for it. 50 goals in 2009 was no fluke. Deserves another crack and could surprise while offering relief to Watts and Jurrah.

I hope he looks more than closer and gets out the colonoscopy cam. Too similar to Watts, Jurrah, Green and Pettard in size and will cramp their style. We don't need him.

I would think he's a bit bigger physically than all of those players

To say he would cramp the forward line style because he's "too similar in size" to some of the forwards doesn't even make any sense, especially when the names mentioned as examples are obviously varied sizes.

He is a strong contested mark and up until this year was very accurate with his kicking for goal. Getting another credible option (proven at senior level) in our forward line for next to nothing (if taken in the PSD) is certainly an option worth considering. On top of that, he's only 22. And for the guy discrediting "kicking 50 in a season" being his only achievement, I'll say it again, he's only 22.

As a leading tall forward- definately worth looking at. May even be a geat foil for the likes of Jurrah,Petterd etc.. Just maybe the one. Please note I am very disappointed re Bruce.

Agree with most of the points made here. In fact the only reason I can see not to seriously consider him is if his attitude is questionable. PS How many players do people think actually kick 50 goals in a season ?

A better example. I don't buy Anthony as a big tall option. Just a medium tall option.

Our medium to tall forward options.

Watts 196cm

Newton 193cm

Bate 192cm

Dunn192cm

ANTHONY 192cm

Jurrah188cm

Pettard 185cm

Green 184cm

Green, Jurrah and Pettard are strong marks and play well above their vertical stature.

Bate and Dunn more versatile medium tall options. Anthony perhaps a little stronger .

Newton has potential to play taller.

Watts perhaps our genuine tall option.

Only four, perhaps five of those guys are candidates for a gig up forward in any game at the moment.

And if his head is not screwed on right then I'd pass for that reason alone.

Melbourne would se silly to not consider him, he has already proved he is good enough to match it at this level kicking 50 goals in a year.

+ picking up "ANTHONY" is only going to help the likes of watts, bate etc.

for a PSD pick or late draft pick i think this is a great get for the MFC.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full
