Ablett Gawn

No, it's not official yet but the news that Junior failed to front a meeting at Skilled Stadium between his manager and Cats CEO Brian Cook and operations manager Neil Balme seems to have sealed the issue as far as I'm concerned - Cats make pitch to keep Gary Ablett.

"Pickering told a waiting media contingent that his client was 'in no rush' to make a decision on his future."

Sorry, but that is an attitude that smacks of total contempt for the Geelong Footall Club which is obviously waiting for the Ablett decision so that it can organise itself for the year(s) ahead.

Ablett's Gawn.

youd have to think that despite all the song and dancing this was decided ages ago.. Well certainly that there was no desperation or real commitment to the cats otherwise he would have announced such before the finals.

This cloud had been growing and darkening for some time and is about to rain on Geelongs parade.

For the reported money: 9-10 very big ones over 5 years hed almost be a mug not to go.

Certainly sets the scene for interesting player negotiations in the future with bar raised so high...others might just want to have a crack at it !! Free agency looming... those cheques are going to grow !!

Yep...he looked agonised after the prelim.. but am sure all that folding stuff will ease the pain !!

Yes ... a lot of good judges have been saying for a while that Ablett is as good as Gawn.....

He is reportedly still weighing up both offers now that Geelong has re-submitted a new offer. Those judges wouldn't know, if Gary doesn't at present.

With all due respect to Cameron Ling, there's little doubt Ablett would still be at Cat (probably for life) if they'd given him the captaincy after Harley retired.

Not that captains should necessarily be selected to avoid someone actually leaving... but just an observation. I remember seeing Gaz interviewed in 2009 where he was asked if he'd be interested in captaining Geelong in future - his response was an emphatic yes.

Ablett's Gawn.

The AFL would have organised for him to announce it early next week so as to not overshadow Grand Final week, and give the AFL some momentum betwen the GF and draft week. Decision was made 12 months ago.

Sorry High Tower.... I was just extending the play on words...

We certainly have a star on our list if Ablett is not as good as Gawn.....

Given that ding a ling isnt even seen as a top priority to keep at the Cats this has worked out very badly for the [censored].

This is simply what I heard so do not hold me too it however a guy i go to uni with, his dad is the lawyer at Geelong basically the kid told me that Ablett signed a contract mid year and basically now regretting it and trying to back-down out of it. I know you'll sign clubs can't talk until the end of the year but lets be honest thats crap e.g Chris Johnston to Carlton for free, so would be an interesting twist if hes now forced up against his will

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
