anyone think Neale Daniher or one of the Daniher brothers could coach essendon next year if Knights gets the sack?

dark horse

I think he would be good choice. Very good coach for us but I suspect Mark Williams may get it. Shame for Knights. I think he's gone. Not that I care much for them. I'd like to see them struggle for a long time like we have.

Neale's time has been and gone.

I agree with that, but I wouldn't put anything past the current Essendon administration.

Posted

Neale would tick all the boxes but Chocko probabaly has first shot . Marty ... Take the money and save yourself the grief; Essendon are rabble at present .

Neale Daniher will give them a real roller-coaster ride and get them damn close, but at the end of the day he wasn't a visionary and chose to use the same players year in, year out, without developing the youngsters.

Maybe Ron Barassi when the court case has finished, with Tommy Hafey as fitness coach, I have more chance of being appointed Essendon coach (I think) than Daniher, although I think the strangeness that Sheedy brought to his last few years there has infected everybody else.....as an aside I have two Bombers members where I work who have ripped up their memberships and have no intention of renewing next year

I would rate ND as a good get for the Bombers. I thought his record at MFC was pretty good, and I am suprised that his name doesn't pop up more often when clubs are in the market. Plus he would be loved at Essendon. I would like to see the reverend get a new gig and do well... But not too well.

May I ask WHY wouldn't Neale be a good fit for Essendon.?

Yep. I'd agree with that too.

Essendon do love their favourite sons....

Still heres hoping to more years languishing in the doldrums. Sorry Ash.. lol

Wasn't Neale overlooked for Knights the first time?

Possibly they thought Knights might have been their shiny armored variety..... probably think differently now ??

Neale, no, I don't think so.

IMO, Hird was asked to sway reluctant board members, but, as yet it hasn't happened, YET.

Hird is a chance, But would have to do it NOW, (whilst ReBuilding) learning over the next 2 seasons on the Job, with Williams overseeing.

Or. Bomba Thompson Would be a good get for either 2011, Or 2012 onwards.

Failing Bomba,,, then Sanderson for next year, you couldn't go past.

I don't think Dean, would leave what he's started, but watch Sean Wellman & Westy.

I think Knights is OK. But, no young coach, with No prior results on the board, that isn't from 'within', would struggle through a rebuild phase. But, how do we know, that, thats what they planned, all along.

He's had to battle the devisions of a club & board in transition, from a couple of decades of stable "SheedyIsm". The shadows following him where dark.

dark horse

yeah, would be good if Neale got the gig at the bummers. 10 years of mediocrity then leave them with the weakest list in the comp. Yeah I'd enjoy seeing them go thru what we went thru.

Posted

ND biggest problem is his inability to make the tough decision. He isn't anywhere near aggressive enough on the players that don't perform. When you're like that, you can struggle to get the best out of players, which he did (see Brad Green).

Posted

Neale Daniher could be the coach Essendon needs.

Pros

Builds a bond with and between players - an Essendon priority

Has personal Essendon history and connections - an apparent Essendon priority

Handles club politics calmly - an Essendon priority

Get's the most out of 'ordinary' players - an Essendon must-have ;)

Cons

Might not have gotten the best out of higher-level players - not much of an issue at Essendon!

And the big question, how might he have gone with all the resources of a big club at hand?

How will he go delegating to the best assistant coaches money can buy?

Remember that he now has a couple of years of experience as a footy manager at Freo to add to his ten years at the Demons.

The question is, does he have the desire to finally grab the premiership that injury cruelly, and the Bombers ironically, denied him as a player then coach?

Does he want to coach ?

What is ND's record like involving the development of players ?

Didn't he once look after some list of a Victorian team ? lol wasn't particularly reknown for bringing the kids on; development probably not his long suit !! ;)

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
