Sylvia spoke on SEN a couple days ago and said that he was not interested in the caiptancy and just wanted to concentrate on his own performance. Also remember Bailey stated recently that he thinks Rivers has good leadership qualities. Maybe an outside chance, and smells a bit of the Harley/Geelong model.

IMO I think Davey will get the nod, and will be very deserving.

Are you mental?

It'll be between Bruce and Green, with Bruce getting it.

And neither Grimes, Frawley nor Sylvia will even be a vice captain.

Mental would be giving the job to a guy that is possibly going to the GC, and got beaten in a 1 on 1 by Jake King!

Too many times Cam Bruce (and i love him) lets us down, and for a captain to do that is not on...

Imagine James Frawley captain running down Jetta against Sydney.... inspiring...

Green is too old, i love him too but we need to hand it to someone that will be with the club for 10 years+

Its a shame Sylvia is not on the list... Kid gives his all everytime he steps out...

If he had played with the intensity he has had for the last 18 months earlier in his career, he would be a sure thing!

Unfortunately he is only just becoming a consistent player.......if he keeps it up, he may be considered in the future.

It comes down to 3 options for captain IMO.........Green, Davey, or Moloney.

I think Brad Green would be a terrific captain, and would like to see him lead us next year, but I am almost convinced the club would love to be the first to have an indigenous captain, and I can see Aaron Davey getting the gig.

And if he did, he would deserve it too.......has been a great leader with the yound indigenous players at the club, and has stepped up with his own game too.

Pretty simple, who do you think will be the next captain of the MFC?

I don't think any of our young brigade are ready (scully, trennerz, grimes, watts, frawley etc)...Which means the obvious choice would be someone out of the more experienced players. The obvious options are Bruce, Green and Moloney. I would go with Beemer...he absolutely loves the club, and I just love the way he goes about it. Also he is a bit younger than the other two. I would think Green would be ahead of Bruce.

I think Green and thought he should have been captain a few years ago. He's one of the very few players that the captaincy actually enhances his game. I won a prize on SEN three years ago for saying this exact thing.

Will not be either Bruce or Green as they were with others the candidates when Neitz retired who were judged not good enough. So MFC will not go backwards.

So by that logic, if Grimes doesn't get the captaincy next year, he never will in the future because he wasn't good enough?

In all seriousness - Bruce will probably get the captaincy. There's surely a reason he steps in when McDonald doesn't play. I'd like Moloney, but I think the club will stick with Bruce.

Flash - Apparently has been amazing with the aboriginal guys and it will give a massive confidence boost for all the aboriginal guys in MFC. Has huge respect from the playing group and the AFL community and has the ability to carry the captaincy tag.

He is a real chance! And I will be disappointed if we pass on the opportunity to give it to an extremely loyal servant.

Must say the MFC should hang there head in shame by basically telling junior to move on.

He is in our best 22, and wanted another year... surely we could have kept him on!

Much love Junior, you have clearly ended up the best of the McDonald brothers, so bragging rights at family BBQ's are yours!!

At the beginning of the year I would have thought Davey was a very legitimate option but whilst his efforts this year are marvellous there hasnt been the hallmarks of cpataincy present. Green on the other hand seems more the General out there.

Agree that Beamer and Flash make ideal VC candidates.

Hard choice Beamer, Green, Bruce and Flash all bleed for the red and blue all deserving.

I think it would be brilliant if we gave it Flash and I reckon he would step up.

What is great is we have choices all good.

It's funny reading what people say about what makes a good captain- you only have to look at Tom Harley, James McDonald, Nick Maxwell to see that the best players aren't captains. Leadership doesnt mean you are the best player.

It's out of 3 players and 3 players only

Brad Green(2-3 year option), Brent Moloney (5 year option), Jack Grimes (longer term option)

There you go, I think your spot on. And don't forget Brad Johnson, he has been a brilliant leader, maybe past it now, but an incredible leader. Brett Kirk, Lenny Hayes should be, Luke hodge should be.

There the ones who show what it takes, to put the shoulder to the wheel, & go in, & often.

Bruce shouldn't get the captaincy and I hope to hell he doesn't.

While he may be a valuable player for other reasons, I am not having our captain kick and handball to the same ability

as my grandmother.

Brad Green by a mile..

Then Moloney or Davey.

I for one won't be happy if Bruce gets the captaincy.

Cameron Bruce - signed, sealed, delivered.

Wanna bet? Bet a buck....

That would be the worst decision we've made for a long time.

CC was on SEN before and said that one of the key issues with Junior retiring, is to allow our middle group of players (he specifically mentioned 24/25 year olds) to take over the leadership of the club.

Bruce is far far too old to be our captain, and this isn't a job you just hand over for a year. Now is the time to find a captain who can, at the very least, see us through our development period until we are ready to challenge.

I'm surprised Davey isn't getting more support here. He's been our best player for years now and is unnerringly brave and committed. In terms of dealing with the extra attention, well, he's the first tagged every week and he's used to the responsibility of being the best player. Plus, it wouldn't nice to have a member of the world's oldest people as the captain of the world's oldest football club.

Your last reason is poor. And being a best player (arguably) doesn't mean he should be Captain.

If common sense comes into this equation- there is only one choice.

Brad Green- for on field leadership- off field leadership- as a spokes person whom leads by example. Can play back, midfield or forward depending on the need.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
