The Arrogance of James Kelly (2010)

Recommended Posts

Who saw Kelly "asleep" during the Song at the end??

F@#$%K that I hope our young side gets to see that & file it away. It was noticed in my loungeroom with 2 other mates.

The MFC must smash Geelong in future years.

P.S. Does anyone else think that "Bomber" looks like he has just smoked a J before he is ever interviewed???

Mark Thompson didn't want to comment on Melbourne's future and how good he reckoned they would be. I reckon that was pretty poor from Bomber.

Why? I'm beyond hearing other coaches say we have lots of talent and how good we are going to be. It's no secret. Bomber can focus on how he will beat us in the future. We don't need the recognition of the comp, we need wins.

Wouldn't worry about that. He will be forced to talk about how good we are for a long time in the years to come and they will be on the end of a few hidings too. The wheel turns people

ha ha and arrogance.

As stated they always do something stupid when the camera passes them. Nothing new. No real arrogance there.

And why not be arrogant, they have won 70/79 and 2 flags in between.

I hope our players get good enough to show some arrogance, Carey was the best I have ever seen and he was arrogant, nearly all the all time greats are.

Who gives a {sh!t} WYL.

When you're a Geelong player you can celebrate how you want to celebrate. In fact, their players joke like that when they sing their song time and time again if you hadn't noticed. Matty Scarlett is among others who does similar antics in their circle quite often.

Fine, Geelong can do what they like sure. But if i was playing for Melbourne i would remember that for another day. You wouldn't. Fine.

Yeah, I noticed this before on Fox Sports news. I was down at Geelong so didn't get to see it earlier on the TV, but had to give it a look before. [censored] arrogant little [censored]. Bomber has always been supremely arrogant which translates onto their supporter base. Not particularly feral or anything, just smarmy. I went down with my sister and we sat a row a way from our cheersquad, surrounded by GFC supporters that were presumably astounded that anyone other than a GFC supporter had made the trip to the forsaken dump. They didn't say much during the first three quarters and waited until the 15 minute mark of the fourth before they started their smarmy, arrogant little remarks that I hate them for. I can't wait for them to fall.

It actually reminded me of his team mate, that little piece of work, Josh Hunt, a few seasons ago. I'm sure you remember it. We ended up winning that game, which was sweet, I can't wait to stick it them up though.

Not concerned about Kelly because from his interviews he seems a bit of a jokester who loves giving it to Lingy at every opportunity. As mentioned others at cats have done similar things on camera during their song or even brownlow night. It may be immature but not directed at MFC.

Bomber looks like he is either the evil Emperor out of Star Wars or in a government sponsored sleep deprivation program.

At the end of the day, if you can talk the talk, you better be able to walk the walk.

Geelong can walk alright. If one of our players did that during the song after we'd won out 80th game of the past 73, I'd probably laugh.

Have you seen them singing the song at all in the last 2 years? They hardly ever show any passion when doing it, it's just become another part of the monotony of winning. They have become that used to it that it isn't as important as it is to us; look at our boys every time they sing the song, they know how important it is to the club and to the supporters and they belt it out with gusto. I just hope that if/when we become a powerful side the players look back on this period and remember what it felt like and they take pride in what they achieve each game, be it a 1 point win or a 50 point shellacking.

It's got nothing to do with us. It's a combination of arrogance and superiority. He, Enright and Scarlett do stupid stuff like that all the time.

One day Geelong will fall back to the pack. Until then singing the song will be a monotonous task required after a game.

SMARMY sums them up real well. Well, they're headed for a big fall and the more smarmy they are during the season, the bigger and more painful that fall's gonna be :)

(reminder: when we're the best going around, let's try real hard to at least not be collectively smarmy)

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
