Whoa a very brave call on your part, I actually agree, seen him do good things in VFL, just needed to get his body right......but wait for the howling.......a lot of posters on here coz they have never seen him, assume he is either a spud or a list clogger.....

I've been spruiking this idea too..his form has been good at Casey, here is his latest review:

Danny Hughes -

Danny was really good again. He’s such a great target as a forward. He had about ten marks, and he would have been in the top six players. His work rate is extraordinary, and his marking ability is fantastic. He uses the ball well, and we’re really happy with his performances over the last few weeks. He kicked one long goal again, which was nice to see.

What I saw of him in the intra club match I liked too

give the man a chance, if Juice could muster up 2 games surely Hughes recent for should give him a chance in the seniors.

I'd like to see them give him a go, though I expect Miller will get the nod. Would like to see PJ in for Martin as well.

Miller, I guess with the mid field firing we will see how good the young man really is. There is no excuse, now that the ball is entering the 50 and on a regular basis.

PJ, I have always been a fan of his, not sure why!!! Martin needs a few more games in the VFL.

Tangent here, but how far away is Gysberts, will he debut mid to late this season? I happy he has been playing well for Casey.

D Hughes should should be elevated

They have persisted with him for so long, now is the time to play him!!!

nothing to lose and he might just provide a target. the report he got from the weekend sounds excellent.

thats good enough for me!

Looked out of place in the NAB challenge against Casey, but his VFL form has been reasonable. Wouldn't be disappointed to see him get a go.

Well I'm one who reckons Hughes has been a clogger for years.

If he isn't elevated on to the senior list in place of Petterd, then the decision to re-rookie him this year will be even more baffling than it was at the time.

Never thought I'd say it - but lets give him a try ( and if he does OK, I'll never question our recruiters again !)

gulp... Go Danny..

Novelty value aside, I think Hughes has finally reached the stage where a call-up would be justified.

Strange yet true.

Give Danny a crack!

And like KS said: Rudy! Rudy!

Posted

I'm all for it too.

We've seen what the rest can do.

A complete waste of time and money if he doesn't get a chance, being similar to Ricky this will be his only chance.

Posted

I've heard that the coaches really rate him as a future player and he's just been struggling with various injuries, i think it's a good idea. Friday night footy could be a big ask for him first up but it sounds like his form warrants it.

Posted

Gety him in there! Our lack of forward structure is killing us at the minute. I think with Danny in there it would mean Bate and Green get the bigger name backs and could open it up for the goal sneak!

Posted

Yeah, Hughes would be on the top of a short list of inclusions to take over for Ricky. Followed by Juice who was probably a tiiiny bit stiff to miss out earlier this year.

The only thing is we all thought Newton would get 4-6 weeks to show what he could do, and he didn't get it. If Hughes comes in and struggles at first, do we give him a few weeks or will he follow the same fate as Juice?

Good point. I say they give him 1 week to show us what hes got. And if he doesnt perform, make him earn his spot back. The chance to play AFL footy doesnt come around that often and i think he should and will learn that. Especialy in this team and where its going.

I saw Danny for the first time on Saturday at Southport. Have to say I was impressed. Personally thought he was close to the best of the Melb listed players out there.

He's been on the list for a long time. Would be good to see him make it.

I'll join the chorus. It's time...

Hughes would be a good choice!

He has strung a few good games together so he deserves his chance. Dont forget this is a developing year! Lets see what he has got at AFL level.

IN - McKenzie, Hughes. Bail could be considered if fit.

OUT - Petterd, Martin.

Jamar to go it alone this week! Unless we can find another out for this week. Johnson could be likely.

Good point. I say they give him 1 week to show us what hes got.

That's just the point though, isn't it?

What can he do in one week? Asking hi for a minimum of 2-3 goals isn't really going to prove much. I say give him 3-4 weeks and THEN look at where he's at. For either player, Juice or Hughes. It's not like they're keeping out anybody else, they're all injured! Or Miller, who seems to be the red headed step child of MFC.

If it were MY decision, I'd be giving Jamar a more serious chop out in he ruck. Play Spencer or better yet, PJ, and have them ruck 60-40 (Jamar the 60) or 50-50, and when not there, play Jamar out of the square. He's not the best forward going round, but in patches he can be relied upon for a big-man contest, which is more than can be said for any of the players in the wings.

Juice is a gone at season's end!Enough is enough!

Hughes deserves his time. We need to try him for more than 1 week! Give 3 or 4 and then decide whether he is upto it.

Posted

Is this the 4th year he's spent on our list?

We probably know everything there is to know about him except for how he goes in the big time. I'd certainly give him a run - tell him he'll have a few games to show his wares. By that stage Cale should be back and we may have extra options.

I've been impressed with him when I've seen and think he deserves a run.

Posted

There have been a few people mentioning Hughes this last week. It would be great to see him get a shot at the senior level and perhaps do enough to get a few games in a row. However, with McKenzie and Bail to come back in, there's not a huge amount of room for him. Still, we can hope.

Posted

Really??? A bloke on our rookie list who's shown nothing but glimpses at VFL between chronic injuries is suddenly the closest bloke to selection with all our young kids pushing for another go?? We're 3-3 with a chance to make a statement against a Top 4 side on Friday Night Footy. Now is not the time for experimentation. Hughes' chance will come eventually if he keeps working. Others have earned it for right now, that surely includes Casey BOG Brad Miller.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
