Cut the pretence about numbers.

Its fitting that a long serving MFC forward and one of its leading goal kickers of all time hands his guernsey to the best 1st year player of 2009.

While I have been critical of Robbo's antics and efforts at times in recent years, he has a great record at the Club and is a life member.

Some of the recent criticism for bagging his old club is unfounded and unnecessary since he clearly is on good terms with the hierachy. Comes a time when you part company.

He may be at the end of his career but to label him a "PSDud" is cheap and ungracious and Robbo deserves better

Very very well said rhino.

Get off Robbo's back. He loves this club so much and because of that he is taking it really hard. Sometimes we say things we don't really mean when we are hurt and we hurt the one's we love most. Give him a break.

He will always love Melbourne.

100% agree with that, personally I hope he doesn't get picked up in the draft I would like to see him remain a Demon for life and work around the club in some capacity. We have all had a go at Robbo over time for some of the stupid things he's done but deep down he and Brent Moloney epitomise the players that play for the club they love. Doug Hawkins thought he had a bit more left in him and went to Fitzroy which in my opinion tainted his image as a true Doggie legend, I hope Robbo doesn't do the same.

It was a great night last night

At the jumper handover last night it was mentioned that Liam had asked Robbo if he could wear his number 24, and Robbo said it would be great and joked he didnt think he had done enough to have the jumper 24 retired.

This makes a massive difference as far as I'm concerned.

The club hasn't forced Jurrah into anything it seems - he wanted to take on Robbo's number. Done well, it seems.

Understand the sentiment but for some reason find it deflating and wish he had stuck with the 48.

Exactly how I feel too, and I don't even know why really.

Oh well, it's done now, and I think the way it was handled was a nice touch.

Me too. I just wish, once a player gets a number, he sticks with it through his whole career.

That aside, it's a nice gesture from Robbo, and if it's what Jurrah wanted, then it's good that he's got it.

Would much prefer someone of Liam's extraordinary talents made a number his own. Can't help but think that this is another case of Robertson's ego getting the better of him.

Players who "hand" there jumpers on need to encapsulate what it means to be a top line "team" player, for all his good points Russell wasn't this player.

Im sure in 1,2,4, even 8 years time .,..they'll saying " another freakish goal from #24 for Melbourne...JURRAHHHHH !!! "

many players have changed numbers after a year.. Its not such a bad pedigree to have that number.. and im sure no one is really going to be wondering...hey whos that guy in Robertson's jumper ??..do you ??

Damn it! 48 can be an iconic number. He could have been our Dennis Rodman.

I'm still waiting for someone to play with a 63 or a 79

Robertson's ego got the better of him because Jurrah asked him for #24 and Robertson was happy to present it to him?

Good point.

Agree. I thought the 48 suited Liam, but I'm pleased the way it's been done. We'll all get used to the 24 in no time.

I don't know, but my guess is that someone at the club probably suggested to LJ, that it might be a good idea for him to take over Robbo's jumper. He would have considered it an honour. He was certainly very happy last night.

This thread is quite stupid.

Getting stuck into past champions of the club for doing nothing wrong, getting upset over future champions changing jumpers and being happy...

I suppose it's good to know that we have got nothing more important to worry about. Dear god!

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
