Cheers for the info

Did he say whether it happened or not?? J-Mac coming from Bali?

hope it didnt hey..

if J-Mac had to give up part of he's only holiday time for a year, to go to another country to try to keep a Davey to stay.. well, we could him goodbye..

No, they didnt say that it was a fact that JMac had flown in from Bali. They just referred to it as word going around or something along those lines.

If Davey said after Brock decision maybe coach based that it was me or DB would you sack the player or the coach???

Get rid of the player. Preferably delist and then draft again, but don't cave in to what he wants. No player can be allowed to declare themselves to be bigger than the team. By putting the club in that situation that is exactly what he would be doing.

Likewise, if he were holding out on signing a contract over whether or not we made a play for his brother, show him the door. I don't mind negotiating in good faith, but blackmailing the club would be inexcusable.

It is also rumoured that Essendon has thrown a four year deal at him and that Melbourne may have lost the bidding war or not prepared to match Essendon....

There is a guy on BigFooty, a Richmond supporter who says he spoke with 2 "well connected demon men" at the Goulburn Valley Grand Final on the weekend and they said that they believe we have lost the battle to keep Aaron. Essendon have offered him a 4 year deal with a salary he cant refuse and that we are not prepared to match it.

Is this where you heard/read this or elsewhere?

A brand new poster `Dafatcat` was ridiculed on this site for stating as fact that the Brock rumour was in fact going to happen. It happened a little more than 24 hours later and he mentioned another star was about to walk with him. We only have 1 star at this point in time, and that is Davey. Sure, we would get a sensational deal you would think if this was to happen, but we simply can`t afford to lose this bloke. Flash deserves to be the highest paid bloke on our list IMO and with our recent easing of the salary cap with retirements over the past 2 years we should be doing whatever it takes to keep him at our club.

Oh o.k. Cheers for the info again.

i hate to melodramatic or over the top

but losing 2 big players, like Davey and McLean over 2-3 years is bad enough - but for it to happen in the space of 2 weeks (esp, when you take supporter numbers and crowds and that sort of thing into account)

it could mean the difference between MFC being around in 5-10 years - or not.

We are still at the very, very bottom of all things AFL and are just back from the brink of existing in the AFL and not - and now we could lose our only star/attraction..

Hope its not the 1st domino..

Give him whatever he wants. It's more than $$$'s it strikes right at the credibility of the club. If we can't keep players of his ilk what hope have we got of keeping the gun kids next time their contracts are up for negotiation?

We were prepared to give Burgoyne a 4 year contract at 700 000 wernt we?

Bloody hell, Davey had a way better year and has history with the club!

Offer him 4! Front ended! This is going to be very bad for the club if we lose him!

I have heard a number of people saying that they will be ripping up family memberships if this comes true and Aaron leaves the club. Although you all and I can say thats soft and not true for the red and blue, its the reality!

Aaron Davey excites kids, families and supporters of our club and others!

I really hope the MFC do anything to keep him.

I'd trade Davey for the right compensation. I don't rate him nearly as highly as most Demon fans.

I accept that I'm in the 1% minority.

That said, I think he'll stay.

Bad news re flash - mentioned on On the Coach tonight that Essendon is really keen on him.

Davey will be 27 in June of 2010.

If the issue is just 2 or 3 years then happy to go 3 years. That would take him though to age 29 and season 2012 .

If he wants 4 years then would give it consideration but the trade off for the extra security for Davey would have to be a lower yearly salary to reflect our increased risk the MFC carries of having a highly payed 30 year old who might not be the footballer that he is at 27 due to injuries.

As for the money we do need to pay him somwhere close to his market rate. Footballers salaries may seem obscene to us but thats the market.

If he was swayed to go elsewhere, and Collingwood and Essendon have been rumoured, then the ball would be in those clubs court as there is no way he would last through to their PSD Selections or National Draft Selection should he choose that option.

All in all I very much hope he stays. He is young enough to be part of MFC PS13 that we all hope will be produced by the the most thorough AFL List Re Build in the draft era. He might even be the MFC PS13 Captain because make no mistake, the most thorough AFL List Re Build in the draft era has us closer to a a Premiership than either of his rumoured suitors in Essendon or Collingwood.. not to mention the crisis hit Blues.

I don't rate him as highly as some, and to be honest, if it wasn't for my fear in regards to Jurrah and Aussie struggling to make it without his guidance, I'd trade him for a good deal.

But Davey is more than just a good player, he is a fan favourite, a kids favourite. He brings people to games and whether we like it or not, he is a big reason why Jurrah has come on so quickly and strongly.

The other fear is, what does losing two fan favourites in the space of a week does to the mentality of supporters? It's pathetic if we lose members over it, but the reality is, we probably will. For a club struggling to form an identity and struggling to break even, we can't afford these sorts of setbacks.

Davey's worth off the field is matched by his worth on the field. You could compensate for his on field absence fairly easily, but you couldn't do the same off the field.

Four years is a ridiculous contract offer, but to lose him for the sake of one year is equally as ridiculous. Of course, if someone makes an agreement in principle and breaks it, you probably shouldn't go out of your way to honour their wishes.

Hopefully the 3 year deal agreement is the only real 'rumour' and this bloody issue can be put to rest ASAP.

You can't just give him whatever he wants. He may have had a good year, but lets see some consistency. Sure, yeah by all means look for the best deal possible, but when doing so have in mind the clubs priorities and list management prospects when considering options.

Just did a quick read of the Aaron Davey thread over on the Bomberblitz forum.

Nothing really to report. Its just the usual internet rumour echo-chamber. Quoting the same news articles. Confusion over whether he had re-signed or not. Nobody seems to know if a 4 year deal has been offered for certain. Referring to the same Big Footy rumblings.

Of course, they want him. Although one clown seemed to think a Davey-Lovett swap would be fair compensation.

If the price is right he's tradeable. I would certainly prefer he stay however if he's leaving, given the fact this is the last uncomprimised draft coupled with his recent form it is probably a perfect storm vis-a-vis his 'price'.

Having said that I rate him. But he's by no means an untouchable.

Yep, Yep sorry guys... that was what Burgoyne was looking for.

But although not confirmed, were we not one of three teams that were very keen for him, so we would be offering someone that we were keen on what he wants?

Hmm this is actually becoming quite a concern now.

It would hurt way more than McLean that's for sure.

The club tried the fat contract with Woewodin and failed miserably. Shane, too, had a massisve influence off the field - every kid had number 22 on their back, including my youngster. (at the time) As it turned out, we all know what happened....Aaron is 27 next year, he can't hold the club to ransom.

3 years is enough for him to make an impact - if he's fair dinkum about staying for culture, togetherness, brotherhood, etc etc.

I've been scouring the internet, papers, for news on Aaron Davey. Can anyone offer reassurance?

i have heard off a trust worthy MFC source That we shouldnt be to concerned about Davey I should find out if james has come back ill keep updates of what I hear but I am confident my source would know if MFC was in 2 much danger of losing him.

Time to get a grip.

Hysteria over a small forward/mid who has had a good/very good year, after 2 or 3 ordinary ones?

Yes, he's a favourite with the kids (I presume so, wouldn't know).

Leadership? You're kidding. He apparently has a good rapport with the other Indigenous blokes (ed: no offence intended with use of Koorie); good. A future club leader and maybe captain, I think not.

I would like him to stay, but not way over the odds with regards a contract; 3 yrs and good $'s is fine; nothing more.

He's forgetting the faith the MFC has shown in him. Rookie listed and supporter funded to get him on the main list. Then some very ordinary years after his first. Look at Geelong, half their list are playing for way under market value because they are a team who can see profit other than $'s. Time we saw some of this at Melbourne.

And a winning club is never built around a good small player; only good big ones.

Three years is fine. I think four years is pushing the friendship.

If Davey can get four somewhere else then good luck to him, providing we get adequately compensated.

Maybe offer him 3 years and the captaincy?

The captaincy isn't a perk to be thrown around to sweeten deals.

hmm really...think the Saints might have their second flag if they had a player with the line breaking pace and kicking ability of one Aaron Davey... pretty sure he would have created a few opportunities out of their 894 Inside 50s.

not sure why you straight out dismiss his leadership abilities either.

Because he doesn't have the smarts. End of story.

The Saints wouldn't have made the top 4 without Riewold. Simple. <_<
