Jack Grimes – We were really happy with his season. He missed the first part of the season but was able to play the middle part and impress. Jack's a class player, who handles the ball really cleanly and offers leadership. He mainly played half-back, but we see him becoming a damaging midfielder in the next few years – Sean Wellman on Melbournefc.com.au.

Really looking forward to getting Jack back :) he has class this lad. A very intelligent and good user of the ball. One of those lads of whom you just feel happier when he gets the ball.

Lets get these inury niggles sorted and allow him to really become the player he will be ..an absolute champ !!

All class and determination with the decision making which belies his youth. IMO only injury stands between him and a stellar career. Hopefully he will have an uninterrupted pre-season, and really start to make his mark in 2010. Wouldn't it be great to see him develop as part of the pre-eminent midfield group in the AFL?

I think he has the potential to be a star - not necessarily of the competition but certainly of the Melbourne Football Club.

When he took the game on late in the game versus WCE it appeared that he had that real will to win, deciding someone had to stand up and that it would be him.

He's turned it over under no pressure a little too often for a guy who kicks the footy well, so I think it's a concentration thing.

It'll be interesting to see how much time he gets in the midfield next year, and how he would cope with a tag.

Congrats to jack for having a great season, and i hope the club finds a solution for his injury issues. Even though i wanna see grimes go into the midfield, i reckon it may be better for him to play on the half back line. the main reason i want him in the back line is his defensive abilty. He reads the play really well and provides good drive off half back.

James strauss will probably take grimes position after grimes makes a move to the midfield, but does anyone know about his defensive capabilties?

You can see why the club was so torn over whether to pick Morton or Grimes with #4 in the draft. Grimes is going to be a superstar.... I wonder what odds Centrebet are offering on Grimes to win the 2012 Brownlow... hmmm....

I am curious. If you were to rate players on their absolute potential where would Grimes rate?

Morton is a more devastating kick, finds the ball at will, almost 10cm taller and is a top5 runner at the club(I am aware that Grimes is also very good at the beep test).

We have other potentially great players: Watts, Frawley, Sylvia, Garland, Blease (apparently) and Jurrah. Where does Grimes' absolute best game place him in this bunch?

One thing in his favour is his hunger and commitment. As I mentioned in the Maric thread, it is one thing to be talented and another to be driven enough to get the most out of your talent.

It's why I said Grimes would be a star of the MFC, rather than a star of the competition.

I'd rate it less than a few others, but there's a massive gulf between potential and realisation of potential.

The upside might not be as big but he's already closer to being a very good player than most on our list.

I didn't know that. The club must of thought it was dreaming when #13 was read out and they realised Grimes was ours for the taking.

    REDEEMING by Meggs

    It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.
