I doubt there has ever been a bigger mismatch in rucking ability in the last 20 years.

I raise you Nick Smith vs. Gigantasorous (aka Sandilands) in a FINAL! Those were the days :lol::lol:

And for those suggesting that Stef will [censored] himself at the prospect of playing on Cox, I don't think he will. He doesn't strike me as the type to run away from a contest, and to be honest I think he'll do well on Cox around the ground because he can beat him for pace and match him in athleticism (not that he'll play on him, that will be PJ's role... oh dear!).

The only ones [censored] themselves will be all of us Melbourne supporters, because the ruck is a highly specialised position and unless you train for it, you can do some serious physical damage to yourself (and give away a lot of free kicks in the process).

Newton has to come in look at there backline it is very small. If Martin is second ruck does Bruce take McKinley ? Frawley will take LeCras, Warnock will take Lynch and Rivers will take Kennedy, Bruce looks like our only other option.

Jetta has better defensive pressure than Maric so he should get a game ahead of him, Grimes hasn't done enough and Cheney is unlucky he isn't far away from taking Bennell's spot should travel with the team as first emergency.

The bench should be Jones, Newton, Bennell and Jetta.

I think we have a good chance here Robbo loves playing the Eagles. As long as we are competitive I will be happy every unexpected win will hurt us in the long run if we are going to be a good side we desperately need picks 1 and 2 otherwise will be like the Roos, Tigers, Bombers and Lions going nowhere.

Can confirm that Cheney wont be making the trip. Make of that what you will.

Cheney in over Grimes. Has earned it. No offense to Jack though, i just think considering our run with injury lately and the way grimey's working himself back into form, another week won't hurt, and Cheney didn't really do too much wrong to be dropped in the first place. Grimes for starting 18 next week.

They've often done that with players approaching their first game to give them hope they're getting close.

Bartram, yeah I still haven't fully accepted that premise between squads & teams. But you may be right there.

I'd like to see Bennell & Jetta play in front of their origin crowd. I think it would be good for them.

the players usually know by now if they are playing dont they? i dont think that's true

interesting to see Jarryd Morton from the Hawks and Mitch Morton from the Tiges have both been dropped this week...

..that pretty much means we have the best one :)

you woulda wanna hope so for pick 4

Newton in for Meesen will be the only change...

Stef Martin to change between rucking and the forward line. Will be nice to have a ruckman who isn't scared to kick the footy...

If dandeeman is right, Bennell will still be playing, and I imagine Jetta will be playing as well. I think they both have played on Subi before?

IN: Jetta or Grimes

Out: Meeson

Oh dear, how could I forget that! I fold.

Jones, Grimes, Bennel, Jetta.

Get the kids travelling early. Let the Bunbury boys, Benny and the Jet, play in front of their mates.

Out Dunn. Him and Bate are pretty similar, but Bate can take a mark...but needs to show he can do it more often than once a fortnight.

Another round, another thread where posters want players dropped who are in the starting 18. How long until you realise that they WON'T be dropped? The only changes will come from the interchange bench unless there is a late injury.

Stuff that. I think Stef's becoming important fast so i wouldn't like to see him playing there.

Stand up Paul Johnson. You've been a passenger all year. If Ryder can play 100, you can play 100.

Spot on. I don't expect PJ to take the honours but I do expect him to give his best all game. If he can play 100 mins of competitive football this week then maybe he has a place in the team next year.

Oh, and Grimes in.

FFS, everyweek someone says this and it infuriating. If you are named on the ground you cant be dropped from the team. Only those on the extended bench can be omitted without a fine being incurred.

Someone should sticky this. It happens every damn sunday game and since we play every damn sunday it happens every week.

FWIW 45 i'm just as excited as you to potentially seem grimes there.

I don't see why I'm not allowed to name the changes I'd like to see...

I'd guess that it will be Jones, Maric, Bennell, Newton

Maric had some shocking disposals last week but he got his hands on the footy and showed something - definitely deserves another chance at least based on his Casey form and for his development

Grimes didn't do enough for Casey last week and doubt they'd bring him in after that...needs another run

Newton as others have mentioned might take soem of the ruck duties in the forward line or will provide another forward option if Martin plays back or in the ruck

Jetta hasn't shown enough to warrant senior selection, just as Newton needs to prove he can back up his VFL performance by having another one. I don't think there's much use giving Newton the yo yo treatment. He needs to learn to be accountable at AFL level and VFL level for that matter consistently.

Grimes Jones Cheney Maric for me.

One or two will be travellers, I just feel Grimes will go as an emergency as Casey has a bye & Grimesy, I reckon is a little underdunn, er done.

I think both boys from Bunbury will be taken over with the rest of the team.

I’ll never forget the image of the CEO of the AFL (impartial you’d think) in the Freo huddle, decked out in vomit purple singing their poor excuse of a club song after they beat us at the MCG. It might have been the 1st game they’d won that year, or the 1st game they’d won in melb – I can’t remember.

After seeing the ins for me it's

IN: Cheney, Grimes

OUT: Bartram, Meesen

hhhmm not sure I agree Riick, i think he has shown enough from a skill and determination stand point but he needs to build the tank as they say. he looks like he runs out of gas before half time. He has a future but needs to get further game time in the 2's.

As to Newts if he hasn't learnt the accountability at VFL level yet doubt he will by now, he has played enough games in the magoos. I think he has been showing a lot more accountability in the seniors but he needs to find the ball more and then finish it off with goals!!!

Newts, Jones, Maric and Grimes//Benny

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
