19, 183cm, 78kg

"Played senior footy for our senior side this year againat WA and had a fantastic year. Plays midfield and forward and has some speed. Played in the Under 16 Carnival and just missed out on the Under 18 side last year" - Mark Browning

Born 26th June 1988 (20 years old).

He's a wingman, trained with St Kilda last year

“Rohan is an exceptional athlete,”

"Melbourne-born, Bail moved to Brisbane when seven and played with the Ferny Grove Falcons until 15, then with Sherwood for two years. He has mostly played midfield-wing but seems equipped to perform equally well elsewhere. "

The kid is a jet. Won the Rising Star up here ahead of Dayne Beams (now at Collingwood pick 29). Didn't think he'd get drafted but a very interesting selection. Definitely a trend here. I've seen him a few times and he is very tidy. The danger of course is that he looks quite skilled compared to the other blokes on the paddock and up here the skills (even in the top division of the AFLQ) are pretty average.

From Burgan's phantom draft

"69 – BRISBANE LIONS – ROHAN BAIL

Mt Gravatt, QLD, Medium midfielder, 19 years old, 183cm, 91kg

(Draft range: 65-not selected)

A non-NAB AFL Draft Camp or state-screening invitee, Bail has done it the hard way. He represented the senior Queensland state side against Western Australia this year and also finished fourth in the Grogan Medal, the AFLQ's best-and-fairest award. Originally from Victoria, Bail has attracted strong interest in recent weeks, with the Lions the likely destination. But don't dismiss Carlton, Essendon or St Kilda with one of their last selections"

"Age: 19

Height: 183cm

Weight: 91kg

Club: Mt Gravatt, QLD

Bio: Bail is a medium midfielder/winger who shone in the AFLQ as a 19-year-old this year. He represented Queensland against Western Australia and also finished fourth in the Grogan Medal, the AFLQ's best and fairest award.

I knew that if I waited a few mins someone would come up with the goods on Rohan.

We seem to be going for a bit of a trend and now see we have passed on 76 so must be saving our selves for the Pre-Season draft... hmm wonder what they have in mind.

We've started tanking already!

I'm assuming this is meant to be a joke... if so, you missed out on the humorous part :rolleyes:

Our recruiters know a hell of alot more than any of us. Lets just have some faith before we dismiss a player that I'm sure you've never seen play.

My brothers burst in to laughter and happyness when we drafted Bail. Brother played with him in juniors and is very good mates with him.

He is a gun, can run all day and has very good pace my brother says, best player he ever saw while playing.

Was that at Ferny Grove mousey? I'm just interested because I live up the road! I saw an article in the local rag about him a few months ago talking him up as a possible AFL draftee and I must confess my first instinct was to think, "don't get your hopes up". Shows how wrong I generally am!

Havent heard of this kid before. Looks like yet another speedy midfielder though :D

Being mature age and with a decent build, he looks like he could play next year if he impresses, where as some of the other draftees may take a while before their bodies are big enough for AFL.

Welcome to club :)

No joke. Our drafting was obviously directed more to a long term plan rather than a quick fix. There's no obvious attempt to cover deficiencies in the short term so we won't show much next year.

That is right and it is being preached and practiced. It is about winning premierships not covering deficiencies. I dont want to be thereabouts for a few years then fall away again.

We will not draft recycled players. We will not overpay players which will hamper our future. We will not compromise our game plan down to our players ability level. We will train and coach our players to the appropriate level. The coach is not interested in appearing mildly competitive in the short term to secure his position.

We have drafted very obviously for pacy, athletic types that can kick. Very smart move.

I want to see all you blokes in 2012 and drink beer and sing a grand ol flag till I pass out.

What players would have you suggested we pick as a quick fix? Recycled players? None of the kids in the ND are quick fixes.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
