I was just watching the start of AFL teams on fox.

First they were looking at st kildas next 5 games and Shaw said only against melbourne in round 10 is a certainty to win....

Second they were looking at the Rising star nominations for this year and they got to Aussie and Brian Taylor said that he was there on sunday and he basically doesnt rate him at all, he said he has no tricks, no speed or flare, basically he isnt anything special.

I hate this bloke, he always seems to give us crap all the time

Sorry thought i would vent

Danny Hughes certainly Hated Brian Taylor back in the eighties. Those games were legendary!! My Dad and i always said those two should have just been put on the back of a flat bed truck and driven round the 'G on any Queens Birthday Pre-Match!!

He's the reason MMM are getting smashed in the ratings. The kid has only played 5 games. It took his love child Davis about 100 games to play a good game and still he plays 1 good game out of every 10. Never trust a man with a moustache they always have something to hide.

I love it when an aboriginal small forward comes along they have to have these three attributes for them to be any good...

True, all you have to do is scratch the surface a little and these kinds of attitudes become evident especially with guys like Taylor, Hunt etc. Anyway I'd rather a player who can do the basics well than have an arsenal of 'tricks' regardless of their racial background.

Anyway from what I saw of Aussie on the weekend he looks a gem, I think he'll turn out to be a guy who can end up having an influence in the middle. He seems to relish physical contact, good skills set, strong mark and decent defensive attributes. He is very raw at this stage and I look forward to watching his progress over the next few seasons.

Unfortunately based upon Aussie's performances so far Taylor is 100% correct. He hasn't shown any tricks or flair, or even an outstanding amount of raw speed when carrying the footy (all traits that are somewhat expected of aboriginal forward pockets, just look at Davey, Davey, Lovett etc).

However, what he has shown is that he is an excellent "old-fashioned" style of small-forward in that he has a terrific work rate inside the forward 50 both offensively and defensively, can read the ball well coming in as well as off the hands of the packs, knows where to move in order to free up space to lead into and has excellent disposal, both field-passing and goal-kicking.

I find this quite surprising to hear, cause I was listening to the MMM coverage during the game, and he was getting quite excited over Aussie's possessions. One of his co-callers asked him if he was the new Leon, and he said something along the lines, that he just could be

We have Davey for tricks, Flair and speed. Aussie gives us some contested possies, a good kick on goal and some defensive pressure (what is this not quick business, he runs down opponents causing them to rush a kick, how quick is he supposed to be after 5 games at afl level??)

Aussie is a find, Dont care what BT thinks, he is a fat tool who played for collingwood, his opinion means a pinch of [censored] in the real world.

what i liked most about aussie is that he seemed to do genuine crumber things. he dropped off packs to where the ball would fall, he looped around looking for the ball to spill, and he seemed to constatly be running into the right spaces. we havnt had anyone do that for a while imo. even davey was never a genuine crumber, he was a really really quick goal sneak. daveys goals are often based around ball spill and he is faster than everyone. aussie seems to look for the ball off packs.

Agreed. Stereotyping at its worst, and says a lot more about BT than it does about Aussie.

As long as he is kicking goals and/or making a positive contribution to the team, who gives a rats about anything else.

I am hearing you re: Leon Davis...Extremely overated, annoying, soft, lazy. wanderer and plays for Collingwood.

Yet that tool BT and about a million Collingwood supporters think he is brilliant. The igniter, pfft, I'll tell you what he can do with his igniter.

Can't stand Brian Taylor, but my sarcasm dectors have gone off, and I reckon he attempting to be humorous.

OR, sometimes he just picks any topic which all people seem to agree on, and goes against it. But I'd say he was trying to be funny.

In any event, Wonaeamirri's goal against Brisbane was a fair "trick".

Relax Mousey, Brian Taylor has a moustache and therefore cannot be taken seriously. Not only is he lost in the late70's, he is lost in a late 70's porno flick!

Brian Taylor or Bristle is a [censored]!!

The way that he has a pocket tsunami everytime his man leon touches the footy or even goes near it - well, we all need our cult heroes!!

Leon Davis will forever be haunted by not touching the footy in 79 minutes of grand final action! is a terrible player and a poor man's aaron davey!!

so far, aussie has shown a willingness to work hard both with and without the ball, he is very instinctive, knows how to read the ball well and also appears to be blessed with good skills...

we shall make better decisions after the season but in a struggling team, he has managed to be a ray of sunshine!!

Was listening to MMM at the game, Taylor claimed several times early that the crowd was around 10,000 and that cricket idiot referred to the crowd as "the small melbourne supporter base" all day.

Danny Hughes towelled that fat tool up repeatedly, it's no wonder he hates us.

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
