Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Lewis played some good football for the Demons this year.

Shocker on Saturday but had nearly 21 mates in the first half.

Obviously next year will be it, as falling to ground, speed etc will just get worse.

Trade was worth it!

Not sure if alternative pre season with martial arts training incorporated may improve his balance & strength, for one last season!

Absolutely, the trade was worth it, there were three imports who each in his own way, have been  instrumental in the improvement in our on field performances.Firstly they were all great footballers. Daniel Cross in 2013 crossed from Footscray. He brought a  level of professionalism and fitness and this began to be become the benchmark to the club. He was part of the leadership group and remains involved with the club. Bernie Vince, who  reluctantly came to Melbourne in 2013,. He led from the front and never took a backward step. He was our best and fairest winner in 2016. A great leader and clubman. Finally, Jordan Lewis a four time premiership player, acting captain of the Hawthorn football club.  As the MFC website says  "Drives standards and acts as a quality teacher for the club’s younger players".

After 307 games he has experience that no other player who has played for the MFC can match (David Nietz came close). Of course his playing career is drawing to a close but he is still a class act and an  inspiration to our younger players. I hope he still gets games on merit and bows out on his own terms. As a player, he is largely responsible for  making Melbourne become a destination club.

The hysterical label of this thread and inconsiderate criticism of him do little justice to his achievements as a competitor and contributor to our club.

Sorry, this talk of him being totally finished is such utter rubbish.  Yeah he was bloody ordanary in the prelim, but so was half the side.  Lewis was a stand out performer in the Rd 22 game against West Coast and also the Crows game at the Adelaide oval, for just two clutch games that I can think of.  And how many of the younger guys say how invaluable his finals experience was for the Elimination and Semi finals.

It's true, as Bernie somewhat showed this year, that we don't know when his body and mind will fall completely off a cliff, but even if we only get the equivalent of half a season out of him, he'll provide a much better return and investment than anything we would likely replace him with on the list, given we have already have 7 delisted/retired players.

Which may explained the interest in KK???

Not quite sure what the inferance is there.  We are now up to 8 delisted/retired and possibly still a few to be traded.  Obviously we need someone to step up and step into a replacement for the role Lewis plays, but I don't think that would be at his expense.

That said, I do find the reference to Cross above intersting.  From what I recall, Crossy was keen to play another year, but the club not so inclined.  I guess part of the difference could be that Jordan was already contacted for next year, whereas Cross may not have been.

Nice post Mydee. Hysteria and diatribe are common however. We are a better team because of their significant contributions.

If I were Simon Goodwin/Josh Mahoney/Gary Pert or Glenn Bartlett it would be clean out your locker on Monday, thanks for the 2 years and good luck in the media.

Bruise free, treacle slow, mentally soft and physically weak players don't get to go around talking up their leadership and importance, not if I had anything to say about it.

I was laughing my head off at the game when they lined up on the wings.  Coaching staff are in denial.

Not surprised when Jordan started pointing the finger at teammates when he got beaten back.  He is a beaten man, but still proud.

But I don’t blame Lewis.  I blame our decision to recruit him, and 95% of the simpletons that absolutely applauded the decision.  Lazy dumb decision.  Inward looking.  Self-defeating.

Clarkson has Hawthorn in the window...wonder why.

A headless chook offers more than Lewis and Jones

Jones OK first half.  Can’t compare him with Lewis IMO.

Not Jones’ fault that Goody does not respect the wing position, like you said.

Frost and Hibberd had to go there when we were at Hail Mary at 3/4 time.

We are not playing finals this season, so why waste valuable game time on Lewis when he will be hanging them up at seasons end. Bring him in against Hawks for a farewell match, then have him down at Casey as an on field coach.

If we are going to lose I would at least like us to be playing some untried players like Baker and Chandler to see if they are going to be useful next season.

Yes yes yes. 100 ? times yes. I was irate watching it. No. 15 for ST Lilda feasted on the the wing with his pace and we were stuck with two plodders who are past their prime. Horrendous coaching

Four weeks of being told how much we needed Lewis' leadership, then he unnecessarily decks a bloke inside 50 and concedes a free. The season is dead, give him a token assistant coach position until the end of the year and work on the future.

☝️And some posters keep insisting that Goodwin is a smart guy and will work it out. Yet week after week Goodwin and the Match Committee ‘brains trust’ - a double oxymoron - lose the game for us before it’s even started.

Just wonder if it's time for someone to tap the coach on the shoulder and tell him to ease off the 'players mate' routine.

Whilst I was never a fan of appointing a documented gambling addict straight out of the most toxic football department to ever disgrace the game, I do rate his ability to connect with players as one of his strong suits; shouldn’t impact on match selection decisions  though.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
