Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

I'm happy to bring in two obvious ins and two strong performers in the VFL. Pedo especially deserves his chance.

In: Hogan, Hibberd, Trengove, Pedersen

Out: Weeder, Melksham, Bugg, Hannan

If Melksham keeps his spot this week I think that's a bad sign. He's not good enough to be a coach's favourite.

I see absolutely zero point in the Trengove for Bugg exchange.

Excited to hear the reports about Hibberd though. I thought he might take a while to get going, but it would seem not.

Jones supports both Hogan and Pedersen being in the team - twitter feed:   https://twitter.com/melbournefc?ref_src=twsrc^tfw&ref_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.melbournefc.com.au%2F

Jones: "Next week's game is an opportunity to put our brand on display against a red-hot Richmond".  Huh!!

The club's song book: 'our brand being on display' and our 'system' and 'not relying on specific personnel' is now full of platitudes and is becoming tiresome.  I would like to hear our coach and leaders talk about intent, bringing the right attitude and giving a 4 qtrs effort.  Win or lose but please commit to those 3 things.

Right now Richmond are playing 'our brand' a lot better than we are.  Jones' interview does not fill me with a lot of confidence for this week.

I essentially agree with these changes, but I'm not aboard getting rid of Bugg. For me, he wasn't the worst on the weekend and I'm not sure that I'd be bringing in Trengove at his expense. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see Trengove back in the side, but I think Bugg is a good matchup for the Tigers and I rate his game. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt that he can significantly contribute to the side, albeit, he didn't have the most inspiring game on the weekend.

I think Melksham needs to go back to the VFL, and Hibberd is the logical replacement (I'm not sure we can carry both Hibberd and Melksham in the same side & in fact, I'd probably suggest we can't carry Harmes/Melksham in the same side), but I get the feeling Goodwin won't be dropping Melksham in the short-term.

I'm not married to Trenners for Bugg. It's no mystery that I'm a Bugg fan, even though I recognise his limited weaponry. Would be happy seeing him shushing the Tiger rabble again.

I am however mindful of Casey reports singling out Trenners for his decisionmaking and skill execution. Notably ahead of other AFL listed players. The F50 entry kick remains an issue for us so he could be a useful addition in the forward half.

He may also want to show his one time potential employer what they missed out on :)

I think you're right about Bugg. I think in a heated game (which it always is) we need really tough players who will play on the edge and I think at this stage Bugg wins out over Trengove. I would like to see Trengove really build up over a few weeks and come in with more confidence then he did last year.

I think Harmes stays in for his toughness around the ball. He contests really well especially in the air for someone his size.

I like that Goodwin has kept Weeds in so long to give him every chance to compete. I think not having Hogan has hurt Sam the most in that he hasn't had as much opportunity to lead up the ground which is where he has played his best  in spurts so far and gets him involved in the game. But watching Pederson on the weekend reminded me how good he is as that lead up role plucking marks on the wings and crashing marking contests, creating space up forward. Hopefully he can play that role against Richmond which we desperately need.

I know Hibberd dominated yesterday, but is he ready for the pace of AFL, coming off not only a 6 week achilles, but over a year out of the game.

I want him in the team but only if they are 100% certain he is ready for the big step up from VFL which would always be a walk in the park for someone of his quality.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not against giving Trengove a shot at some point. I don't want unforced changes though unless it's a clear, definitive upgrade - Hibberd and Hogan are the only players available who offer that in my opinion.

Tinkering around the edges like that gives me flashbacks to 2012 when we had a team of NQRs doing a revolving door tour of the side on a weekly basis. *shudder*

I like Brayshaw and share your concerns about Tyson's lack of skill/disposal given his leg speed. But I watched the second half of the VFL yesterday and Brayshaw fumbled and missed too many targets by hand and foot. He won't get a call up based on his game on the weekend.

I didn't see the VFL game but that sums up Brayshaw to me, very messy.

Any doubt Jesse Hogan will come straight back into Dees team? Nathan Jones says he's still got boxes to tick, has let team down. @AFL

Reported on SEN that Hogan is still in Perth and may not play next Monday due to family health issues. Hmmm......

I am sure Hogan will play despite what Jones says. The story was also about the home issue and Jesse may have to rush homes as it appears a member of the family isn't well. I hope Pederson comes in as the 2nd ruck which frees Jack to run around the forward line. When Jack rucks and  Spencer rests we have NO presence up forward or marking option.

I think Weed will be out injured and Melksham can have a rest.

When Gawn & Hogan are in the team & playing well, we have far more capacity to reduce the burden on Weid and include him in the team for the sake of their development. With Gawn out and Hogan out of form, we don't have that capacity, and it puts more responsibility on Weid that he's not ready for yet.

I'm not a huge rap for Pedo, but while Gawn is out, we need Pedo's 12-15 possessions and good contests more than we need Weid's development. We all know that Weid's ceiling is far higher than Pedo's will ever be, but at the moment, what we need as a minimum is 12-15 possessions and good contests and Weid is a long way off .

Also, Tiges will match up Rance on Weid, so that he can zone off & take intercept marks & double-team Hogan in marking contests, knowing Weid isn't good enough to make him accountable. Rance struggles against us because we force him to be much more accountable one-on-one against Hogan & Watts. Rance is dangerous only when he lines up on the weakest forward and doesn't have to be accountable.

How will Rance BOG help Weid's development?

Thats odd, it was said on Sunday that he has been very good around the club prior to the Frem game and someone here said they bumped into him leaving the ground also. Others may like to confirm but plenty of BS out there either way.

If Viney does just one thing this week I hope it is to grab that arrogant bikie offspring by his outstretched hand and pull out his shoulder.  That would be a big contribution.

That or hold it whilst ramming shoulder into his chest flattening him. Entirely legal btw :)

Yes it is, but maybe he has returned to Perth.  Jones's comments are also a little strange. More info would be helpful.

We lost by 2 points. One out: Weid for Hogan. At worst Hibberd for Melksham.

If true that he may not play for family health issues that is sad for him and his family. It may be in a state of flux. I thought he looked out of sorts in his last match and whilst not excusing his actions it may explain the brain fade. If there is an issue at home then it may be better he doesn't play.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
