So was watching the Knicks play the Grizzlies this morning on the NBA app and were getting soundly beaten so I took to Demonland and saw that today's match was on. So at half time in the NBA, I turned it off and took the drive from the Golden Mile in Frankston to a cold, wet and windy Casey to watch a winning team. Thankfully we got there in the end, despite a few concerns along the way with certain elements (skill errors were a killer!). But here is my break down of what I thought of our players. 12. Arriving at 11.05 in pouring rain at Casey Fields is never a great start but that is exactly what Casey got off to in the first quarter. The rain stopped a few minutes before the game started and it was dry for the duration but the wind howled and it was slippery. The ground was in great condition and the wind blew across to the outer side and favoured the northern end. That's where I headed. It's nice to win any match but it was the young kids and one old kid I wanted to see and I didn't have to wait long. BBB was dominant early holding two contested chest marks and kicking one goal44 points

Jay Clark reporting that Oliver has re-signed. No idea of the details but this is huge news for us and a big statement to the team! I was a bit worried he was going to get offered a truck load and move on.40 points

Ventured down to Casey along with a few others on here to observe a few players. Weather was pretty rainy when I got there for 1st quarter. Not too many spectators, I estimate around 400 max. Among them were Mark and Nicole Bradtke (Mark is huge), Choco Williams, Alan Richardson, Sean Smith. First observation I noticed was Ben Brown is BIG. Not overly solid, just very tall, towers above Majak and Weed. He had his left knee strapped. This bloke knows how and where to lead, he presents himself well and is a target. Nice mark and goal in first quarter, then a juggling one handed ma38 points

Knowing Glen personally, I can say he’s worked very hard for the club and is a very passionate Melbourne man. He did a brilliant job stabilizing the club with Jackson and Roos years ago and also helped rebrand the club too. Some of his calls were outlandish, but you’ve got to aim big or you’ll never achieve anything (Tigers premiership and 100k membership as an example). My understanding is Glen will be spending more time with family in WA going forward. Also sounds as if instability is either being addressed or getting worse as a result of his departure. Time will tell, but the board30 points

Gotta give some love to Tmac. Nine marks on a wet day. Very nice. Hes back with 3 great games.29 points

Demon skipper Max Gawn is one big unit at 208cm and lately he’s been standing even taller. We already know that he’s unstoppable in the air when going for a mark but with three consecutive victories to open the season, you might say that he has his head in the clouds. And that is literally true thanks to a fan at Demonland.com who recently arranged for our big ruckman to go even further than the clouds but way beyond to the edge of space and into the stratosphere. And this photograph of Max at 35km above the Earth with the curve of the planet visible behind him is the proof of the new he29 points

Loved the moment in the last when Lever was by himself in the D50 with a wave of Geelong players on the way in. Had started chasing the player about to get out the back, but at the last second went towards the ball carrier instead. Got there just in the nick of time, with the help of dud bounce by the carrier, and held the ball up before the cavalry arrived. Saved an absolutely certain goal and got a massive cheer from the crowd, and me at home.28 points

Jesus Christ the reaction to that article from all the male posters is the epitome of why we need a bigger push for equality.26 points

Have been pleading with demon supporters for couple of years to stick fat with this kid. What you're watching now is exactly what he was showing at TAC level and why he was highly rated by our recruiting and coaching staff. Imo he is by far our best tackler in the team, and he sets the tone with his insane pressure and manic attack. Don't think I've seen anyone an opponent slip his tackles as of yet this year. While Kozzie might be getting all the Hollywood attention and rightly so, it's Spargo who the coaches would be just as wrapt with his defensive efforts and form. Worked26 points

Best start since 1994. 27 years ago. 27 long years. I’m really happy for myself and every one of the die hard demons that have stuck with us. I know this doesn’t mean finals or a flag but we deserve to feel good tonight20 points

I confess I was chatting to him pre-season and was very confident after speaking with him about his prospects. Said high half forward is a very difficult role to play. You can do the same thing each week and one week have 3 posessions the other kick 4 goals like in the last round v Essendon. So much depnds on what happens up the ground. He was looking forward to being allowed to be more creative off half back under the new rules. Appears to be gaining more confidence and finding a good rapport with Langdon, Salem, May etc.19 points

Wasn't sure where to put this but on On the Couch tonight they highlighted some stats: We are conceding scores from 30.6% of our opposition inside 50s, which is the best percentage ever recorded after four rounds We have six of the competition's top 21 pressure players (presumably this is measured by average pressure acts per game?) Our forward half pressure rating is the third highest rating by any club since 2013.19 points

Feel like Viney deserves more credit for this game. Shout out to @DeeSpencer and @The Swimming Dee for also having him BOG. It wasn’t just the fact he had more contested possessions and tackles than any other player on the ground. It was the moments they happened. Those knife edge moments where the Cats could have swung momentum. More often than not it felt like Viney was the one having none of it. Impossible not to have admiration for the bloke. To be playing with the enormous heart he does when many other professional sportsmen would have sooked it up. He’s a gem. Thank god he play19 points

Honestly, some of you blokes don’t get it. What questions do you think the first female pres of the oldest club is going to get? What answers to those questions should she give? Of course she gives a shut about equality - we all should. A bloke would never get that question. And how some on here react? “I hope she cares about winning!1!1!1” And if you are trying to gauge you’re own reaction - look who you have a like from - that should be some insight into inanity.19 points

Just watched the replay and one of the biggest highlights for me came right at the end. You can excuse a team late in a game for going through the motions when the scoreboard says game over, but not our mob yesterday. In the final 10 seconds of the game we laid 4 tackles and almost a 5th as Geelong tried to run the ball out of their defensive 50. Incredible work rate, talk about playing 120 minutes.19 points

Yeah I reckon you might be on your own there. 21 touches, 9 marks including 2 contested on a wet day. He was critical is us connecting defence and attack. Worked hard all day. No way he is dropped18 points

As a key forward, Jackson is currently the best contested mark (statistically) of any Rising Star qualified player. He has 5 whilst the next best (Georgiades, Koschitzke and Treacy) have 3. He's also second for contested possessions, first for hitouts, third for clearances, etc. So, for a 19 year old tall forward who also chops out in the ruck ..... he's doing exceedingly well. Dr D is just a troll, but blows up his credibility too often to be any good at it.17 points

This appointment has been made on merit. Anyone suggesting otherwise has obviously not bothered to do any research. Her accomplishments with respect to delivery of major projects are truly impressive and we are in the very fortunate position that she has been leveraging those connections to get our home base approved. I believe this appointment can only help that process. This is not a token appointment to tick a gender equality box. She is the best person for the job. End of story. Best of luck Kate.17 points

Not a lot to add, but currently sitting in the MCC on my 8th pint. Copped a spray from two attractive Geelong supporting girls as they left before the final siren. I’ve analysed the incident and cannot imagine what bought that sort of behaviour on towards myself and my Melbourne supporting friend aside from our verbal contempt for everything Geelong today. I feel so at ease...go Dees!!!17 points

Agree on both counts. Spargo is just being Spargo. Now he has friends helping him out up there. Hunt's game was exactly what we need from him. A couple of good runs finished with some quality disposal and some fantastic contest work.17 points

4-0 4-zero 4- nil 4-zip 4 – nada I do like the look of that. The 4 is so important as is the figure 16 for the points we have thus far. I also like the number 8 which is the points break we have over a number of the pre-season ‘contenders’. And there is 2 which is our position on the ladder. 4 rounds, 4 wins and 16 premiership points in the bank. I watched it live via streaming and a few times I found myself thinking back to my childhood. As a young lad I just loved to go to the Saturday matinee that was on at the local cinema with my mates during the su16 points

What I noticed was how many of our goals on Sunday resulted from contests in the air near to goal with Jackson and or McDonald contesting if not marking. We crumb to packs better than in the past Kozzie, Spargo ANB all prominent here and the contest he provides is critical in that the ball isn't easily marked by opponents. Of course it would be better if he marked them and he will soon enough. He could do worse than to study Hawkins lead technique - he has a great lead / double back / lead again technique. He also get pushed under the ball on occasions in ruck contests but his l16 points

Apparently one of his training drills with #15 & #29 is to have them run and carry and deliver into the forward 50 using him driving a golf buggy as a target. They have to land the ball on the roof of the buggy. Genius!16 points

Arrived at the MCG in a howling wind and under a threatening cloudy sky, to be greeted by the sound of Led Zepplin's "Kashmir" booming around the ground. When it was followed by Peter Gabriel's "Sledgehammer", I took it to be a good omen for us. Let's do this! As others have said, what a great team effort. Everyone played well. Pressure was intense, desire for the ball fierce. Viney fought tooth and nail for every possession, May was his usual reliable self until Hawkins took care of him, Lever commanded the backline in his absence, Hunt and Langdon thrilled with their runs down the16 points
